Ethan's POV

The night air was cold on my skin as I drove away from the Moonstone Pack. I held the steering wheel so tight that my knuckles turned red. Inside me, my wolf howled in pain, a cry so deep, it felt like it would break me from within.

"Go back," my wolf urged from within. "Go back and claim what is ours. Fight for her."

"I can't," I said through clenched teeth, though every fiber of my being screamed to do exactly that. "Alpha Marcus gave his order. If I defy him now, I will start a war between our packs."

"Then let there be war!" my wolf roared. "She is our mate! Our destined one! We cannot just leave her there with that snake, Derek."
