Jessie's POV

The moment I locked the door behind me, I ran to the bookshelf. My hands found the hidden mechanism I had discovered weeks ago, the one that seemed like a lifetime ago now, and pressed, and the bookshelf swung open to reveal the library beyond.

This place was protected. My mother had made sure of it. Stephanie Morgan, for all her power, couldn't reach me here.

I moved to the center of the library, turning in a slow circle, taking in the thousands of volumes surrounding me. Where to start? My mother's letter had mentioned three keys needed to open the wooden box: knowledge, truth, and sacrifice.

Knowledge first, then. That seemed the most straightforward.

I walked to the desk where my mother's reading glasses still sat, where the wooden box waited with its mysterious contents. I picked up the box, examining it more carefully than I had before. The symbols carved into its surface were more complex than I had first realized, layered upon layered, written in patterns that hu

Jessie's POV "Yes," I whispered, finally able to speak now that Beatrice had broken the silence for me. "Everything Beatrice said is true. Lisa is Stephanie Morgan, and Stephanie Morgan is Lisa. She has been manipulating everything. And now she has Ethan, and if I don't do what she wants tomorrow night during the eclipse, he dies."My father was silent for a long moment. Then he moved to his desk, opened a drawer, and pulled out his phone."What are you doing?" I asked."Calling the guards," he said, his voice was cold and controlled. "Having Lisa arrested and detained until we can figure out how to break her magic and get Ethan back.""No!" Both Beatrice and I shouted at the same time.My father paused, his finger was hovering over the phone. "Why not?""Because she will know the moment you make that call," Beatrice said urgently. "She has the entire pack house under magical surveillance. The moment you move against her, she will trigger the spell binding Ethan. He will die instantl

Jessie's POVThe moment we were alone, my father pulled me into his arms. "Tell me what you can. Without names, without specifics. Just enough that I can help you."The binding spell eased slightly with Steven gone. One less person in the room meant one less person at risk if I spoke.I opened my mouth to speak, but before I could form the words, a voice cut through the room."Stop, Jessie."We both turned toward the door. It had opened silently, and standing in the doorway was Beatrice. My father went completely still. His arms dropped from around me, and for a moment, he stared."Beatrice?" His voice was barely a whisper, filled with shock and disbelief and something that sounded like hope. "Is that... is that really you?""Hello, Alpha," Beatrice said softly, stepping fully into the room and closing the door behind her. "It's been a long time."My father didn't respond with words. Instead, he moved, faster than I had ever seen him move, crossing the room in three long strides. He p

Jessie's POVI walked toward the bookshelf, my hand already reaching for the hidden mechanism. The library was calling to me, promising answers, promising power, promising a way to save Ethan. But just as the bookshelf swung open, revealing the darkness beyond, a sharp knock echoed through the chamber.I froze."Princess Jessie?" A guard's voice came through the door. "Your father requests your presence. Immediately."My heart sank. No. Not now. I didn't have time for this."Tell him I have retired for the night," I called back while trying to keep my voice steady. "I will see him in the morning."A pause. Then: "I am sorry, Princess, but I can't go back without you. The Alpha was very clear. He needs to see you now. He said it's urgent."Urgent.The word sent ice through my veins. Had something happened? Had Lisa done something to my father? Was this another one of Stephanie's games?I quickly pushed the bookshelf closed, making sure the lock clicked into place. The library would hav

Jessie's POV I made it to my mother's chamber and closed the door behind me, leaning against it as I tried to catch my breath. Every part of me hurts. My body from Ethan's attack, my heart from his absence, my soul from the weight of all these lies.I needed to get to the library. Needed to unlock those keys. Needed to..The door opened.I stumbled forward, caught off guard. When I turned, Lisa was standing there, that perfect omega submissiveness in her posture. But her eyes... her eyes were triumphant.Something inside me snapped. All the fear, the anger, the desperation, it all transformed into pure rage.I moved forward, towards her.My hand caught her throat, and I slammed her back against the wall with all the strength I had. My wolf surged forward, lending me power, and I felt my claws extend, pressing against her skin."Where is he?" I snarled, my face inches from hers. "Where is my mate?"Lisa's expression didn't change. She didn't fight back, didn't even flinch. Just smiled

Jessie's POVThe portal deposited us just outside the Moonstone pack house, in the shadows near the garden where no one would see our arrival.I stumbled as my feet hit the ground; my injuries were making every movement painful. Beatrice steadied me with a hand on my arm."We are here," she said quietly. "Now remember what I told you. No one can know about Ethan being taken. Not yet.""I know." My voice was tight with a controlled emotion. "Come inside with me. Help me explain to my father.""No." Beatrice stepped back, shaking her head firmly. "I can't go in there, Jessie. I can't face your father.""Why not? He wanted to see you. He searched for you after my mother died.""Exactly." Her expression was painful. "I left immediately after Luna's death. Disappeared without a word, without explanation. How do I face him now? How do I explain that I abandoned the pack in their darkest hour? That I ran instead of staying to help protect you?""You were protecting yourself," I said. “My fa

Jessie's POV I made my way back to the car, moving more carefully now. My body was in bruises, and I was pretty sure I had cracked at least one rib. But it was gradually healing. The car was still dead. I tried the ignition multiple times, but nothing happened. Whatever spell had stopped it wasn't going to release it.I leaned against the hood, trying to think through the panic.Options: I could try to walk back to Ethan's pack. But that was hours away, and I was injured. I could try to walk to Moonstone, which was closer but still a significant distance. Or I could wait here and hope someone came along.None of those options helped Ethan. My wolf was in agony, feeling our mate's absence like a physical wound. The bond between us was still there; I could feel it. Which meant he was alive. But where? And for how long?I closed my eyes, reaching for that bond, trying to sense anything about where he might be or what was happening to him.Nothing. Just emptiness and distance."Think, J
