Chapter 11
Rosebud Martinez “I got this for you.” My fingers clenched tightly as I stared at the bouquet of flowers in his grip. His face held a warm smile. One that could've swayed me if I didn't know the bastard he was. “Thank you.” I smiled, but it only lasted for a nanosecond before disappearing. I reached for the flower, and just when he handed it to me, I loosened my grip, watching it crash to the ground. His smile faded, suspicions creeping up his face. “It slipped off my hand.” I told him, my lips curling up in a smile. “It's fine, honey.” He bent down and picked it up. “I made dinner for us. Why don't we eat together, hmm?” He held my hand, holding the flower in his other hand. I felt my skin crawl in disgust, my stomach twisted, and the sudden urge to throw up coursed through me, but I held it back. “Okay. I will shower and come back.” And with that, I left for the room, not soaring him another glance. For a moment, I thought of staying back inside the room after I was done with the shower, but somehow, I was convinced to go. I had no idea why, but for some reason, I just wanted to watch his acting tonight. “I told him that I'll call you, Meg. What if your sister was here with me?” I paused along the staircase, my fingers tightened around the rail as I heard his voice from the dining room. They had been doing this under my nose for years and I never had any idea about it. I was so fucking stupid and dumb. ‘No, Rosebud. You were never dumb nor stupid. He just knew how to play his card well’. I convinced myself, clenching my jaws tightly. I intentionally tapped my foot as I descended the staircase, and as expected, he had shoved his phone away by the time I got to the dining room. He was visibly shaking, rubbing his palms together as a nervous smile played on his lips. “Honey, you are here…” he pulled out a chair for me. “Come have a seat.” I walked over to sit on the chair without saying a word to him. “I made your favourite. You will love it.” He chuckled as he opened the bowl on the dining table, and the sweet aroma of catfish soup flew straight into my nostrils. I hated to admit that Mathew makes the best catfish soup. At least I haven't seen anyone else as good as he is when it comes to this. I could say that it was another thing that he was good at after cheating. I watched as he picked up a plate and dished out some to me, but as inviting as it looked, I would be so damned to eat from him. “Thank you.” I picked up the soup and scooped some soup, intentionally lifting it to my lips, but paused, and lifted my eyes to him. “Is everything alright?” He batted his eyelashes, his eyes boring into mine. “Hmm.” I nodded. “Something just crossed my mind.” I sighed, dropping the soup, and his eyebrows drew apart, curiosity creeping up his face. “Megan and I had a fight today.” His face flashed with worries and fear, but I knew it wasn't for me, but Megan. “Megan? What happened? Why did you two have a fight?” He asked in a single breath. Oh… I guess she hasn't mentioned it to him yet. I pulled a surprised look as I asked, “I thought she already told you about it.” “Huh?” “Why would she…tell me?” His voice sounded unsure, his eyes gave him away. I chuckled dryly and shrugged. “You two are friends. I thought she must've reported me to you.” “Are we?” He raised an eyebrow, and laughed dryly. “Maybe not. I just thought you two are close. That's all.” I replied to him, and he slowly nodded. One…two…three… “By the way, what happened between you two?” Bingo! And just like that, he asked the question I knew would come first. I gave him a long stare, then smiled and waved my hand in the air dismissively as I said, “It's siblings fight, Mathew. We will handle it.” His face flashed with disappointment. Just what I wanted. To keep him on suspense and make him restless, and I'm glad it worked. “Are you sure?” He asked. As if he really cared. “Hmm. We will be fine.” I nodded, but he still looked restless. He picked up his phone in a bid to do whatever was on his mind, maybe text Megan because it was the only thing he could do now, but I held his hand and gently took the phone, his eyes snapped open. “This date is about us, right?” I locked eyes with him, but his gaze went straight to the phone. He was obviously scared of being busted. “Hmm.” He swallowed whatever was in his throat as he managed to nod his head. “Why don't we focus on this date instead, hmm?”Chapter 12 Mathew “Goodness! I've been calling you nonstop but you didn't pick up.” I shrieked as soon as Megan picked up her phone. However, my heart sank into my stomach and I froze when I heard a different voice from the other end. “Who are you? What happened to Megan? Why do you have her phone?” I could feel my heart pounding hard in my chest as I said in a single breath, my grip around my phone tightening. “She is drunk. You should come pick her up.” A masculine voice spoke from the other end. “Give me the address of the place. Now!” I snapped, and he told me the address. I didn't spend another second before dashing out of the balcony, leaving for the parking lot afterwards. I dialled Megan's number as I walked briskly to my car, but unfortunately it ended without anyone picking up, so I just had to rush there. “Mathew?” I heard Rose's voice behind me just as I pulled the car door open, causing me to pause. That bitch! Why the fuck is she calling me now? Isn't she the r

Chapter 10Rosebud Martinez“Ms. Martinez… this is really complicated…” he paused and sighed.“Ms. Megan has also been on this contract for some weeks now, but I was indecisive about it.” He added, and I scoffed silently.“Are you considering the feeling of my sister, Megan Martinez, or your project, Mr. James?” I locked eyes with him.Hearing that bitch's name was annoying the shit out of me.I stared at the forty-five-year-old business mogul while relaxing on the chair across from him, waiting for his reply.“Of course, I don't care about her feelings, it's just that I'm skeptical about this. I mean if she won't do a good job, how sure am I that you, her sister will?” “Your worries are valid, Mr. James, but I assure you that you won't regret this…”“Martinez realty is one of the successful and most influential realty companies in the country. Working with us comes with many added benefits…” I paused, making sure that he digested my words.“We have a series of satisfied clients. We
Chapter 9Rosebud Martinez ‘Hey, honey. Something came up at work, and I had to sleep out. I will make it up to you, I promise’.I had just stepped inside the house after a long day at work when Mathew's text popped up in my phone, and I scoffed.I was going to opt out of the date one way or the other, so he only did me a favour.‘Okay’I replied to his text bluntly as I proceeded to my room.My phone rang as I walked inside my room, and my heart fluttered, a smile creeping up my face when I saw it was Bruce.“Hey!” His gentle voice sounded through the phone as I pressed the phone gently to my ear after answering the call.“Hey!” My voice trembled beneath the pounding in my chest, my grip around the phone tightening as my breath hitched.“Did you arrive home already?” “Hmm. I just got home.” I whispered.“Alright…” he paused and went silent for a few seconds.“We were so carried away with old times and couldn't talk about work earlier.” He chuckled lightly, and I mouthed an ‘oh’.I
Chapter 8Rosebud Martinez “Hey!” Bruce smiled and waved at me the moment I stepped inside the five-star restaurant situated behind a fountain.Bruce changed the location at the last minute, though I had no idea why.“Hey! Am I late?” I smiled nervously, walking over to him. “Not really. I just got here too. Please sit.” He said, tapping the chair beside him, and I muttered a thank you before sitting.“I'm sorry I had to change the location.” He apologised, a smile plastered on his lips as he looked at me. “I didn't do my research well. The water view restaurant is not active at the moment.”My lips curled as I mouthed an ‘oh’.My heart fluttered as our eyes locked. The way his charming eyes gazed into mine made something snap inside me. Something I couldn't explain.Heat caught in my throat as I gulped down nothing, managing to turn my face away from him.I couldn't help but notice how hot he looked in the black shirt he was wearing. Holy fuck!I could barely concentrate on admirin
Chapter 7Rosebud Martinez ‘I’m so sorry, Ms. Martinez. Something came up, and I had to urgently travel. I'll be back in one week. Will work on the divorce papers as soon as I get back’I almost threw my phone across the room in annoyance when I read my lawyer's text as soon as I woke up. I wanted the divorce to go through as soon as possible, but I guess it won't be anytime soon.My phone chimed with a text as I got ready to leave for the office, and I hesitantly picked it up. However, a smile crept up my face when I saw who had texted me. It was Bruce.‘Upscale restaurant. 2pm’.It was the address of the restaurant we were to meet.My eyebrows squinted as I tried to remember the place. If my memory serves me correctly, it was a seafood restaurant built on a riverbank.“Bruce is weird…” I chuckled to myself.“Why this restaurant of all places?” ‘See you later’.I replied to his text and shoved my phone inside my white handbag before going to stand in front of the mirror to check o
