Chapter 3

Author: Barky Biscuit
The next day was the annual Spring Hunt Festival for the Shadowveil pack. Every awakened werewolf had to shift into their wolf form and follow the Alpha deep into the Forbidden Forest to capture prey as an offering to the Moon Goddess.

In my previous life, the massive snow-white wolf I shifted into had always led the charge, tearing through countless beasts alongside Xavier.

In this life, however, everything was different. My current wolf was scrawny and frail, its fur dull and lifeless.

At the front of the pack, Xavier had shifted into a powerful black wolf, his red eyes imposing and domineering. By his side stood the stunning white wolf Lina had become.

"Is that Ella? My God, how did she turn into a grey wolf that's not even as strong as a stray dog after her awakening?" someone whispered.

"She used to be so arrogant because of her talent. It seems the Moon Goddess has finally put her in her place and given that power to the gentle Ms. Davis," another added.

"Look at how sickly she is. Someone like her doesn't even deserve to dream about being with Alpha Xavier."

Xavier heard the gossip. He lifted his massive wolf head and let out a howl that echoed through the valley. Then he walked over to Lina, nuzzling her neck affectionately to announce her status to the entire pack.

Lina responded softly. When she looked back at me, a cruel provocation flashed in her golden eyes. She wanted to see me make a fool of myself and lose control in jealousy, just as she had in her previous life.

Unfortunately for her, I refused to give her that satisfaction.

The hunt began.

I had once possessed the sharpest sense of smell and unmatched speed. Even though my wolf had changed, my skills remained.

I moved swiftly through the forest and eventually came across a wounded, formidable red deer by a secluded stream.

This would make the perfect offering.

I crouched low, waiting for the right moment to lunge at the deer's throat. Despite my weak body, I bit down on its neck with all my strength.

Just as the red deer was about to die, a terrifying, oppressive force crashed down on me.

A loud thud rang out as Lina slammed her massive white paw onto my back without holding back. My spine snapped sharply, and blood burst from my mouth and nose.

She easily snatched the deer I was about to capture. Then, using her immense power, she kicked me into a patch of thorns like I was nothing more than trash.

Lina let out a long howl to the sky and raced toward Xavier, the prey clutched in her mouth.

By the time I forced myself through the searing pain and limped back to the gathering spot, I saw Xavier grooming the white wolf's fur with his tongue, his eyes full of doting affection. The red deer was placed in the most prominent spot as Lina's trophy.

Lina's voice trembled as if she were about to cry. "Xav… Ella, she… I wanted to help Ella hunt, but she was so jealous of my wolf that she tried to ambush me from behind. I accidentally stepped on her while trying to protect myself. She must be blaming me now."

The surrounding warriors immediately erupted in fury.

"Ella is an absolute disgrace to the pack! She's clearly incompetent, yet she still has the nerve to plot against Lina behind her back," someone said.

"Ella, your pathetic wolf can't even compare to a single hair on Ms. Davis's head. How dare you do something like that?" another added.

Xavier looked at me, covered in blood and utterly disheveled, his wolf eyes filled with disgust.

He issued a punishment against me in the name of the Alpha. "Ella, go to the confinement chamber. You're not allowed to leave without my permission."

This was one of the harshest punishments the Shadowveil pack imposed on wrongdoers. The confinement chamber was dark and damp, hidden from the sun.

"Xavier!" I called out to him. "If I told you that Lina was lying, would you believe me?"

Xavier stopped in his tracks. He remained silent for a moment but didn't look back. "Ella, don't let me down again," he said.

I watched as they cheered and took my prey away while the pack members spat at me one by one. I lay silently in the cold mud, letting my blood seep from my wounds.

Xavier, Lina, did you really think that by taking my wolf, you could claim everything that belonged to me?

He watched me from a distance, his eyes brimming with desperate pleading. His voice was raspy, barely audible. "Ella… I-I just wanted to see you one last time."I stood beside Ryan and looked at him calmly.Ryan held my hand and whispered, "Do you want me to drive him away?"I shook my head. Then, I took a few steps toward Xavier and stopped at a safe distance. "Have you seen enough?" His body trembled as he looked up, his eyes once radiant but now dull and murky. "Ella… a-are you doing well?""I'm fine," I replied. "Better than ever."Seeing my exquisite garments and the unmistakable happiness in my expression, the light in his eyes slowly faded. He shut his eyes in agony as murky tears ran down his filthy cheeks. He began rambling apolog

The festival continued. When the pack Elder placed the moonlit wreath that symbolized the status of Luna upon my head, the wolf within me let out a joyful howl. It had finally found its true home. That night, Ryan took me to the Silvermoon pack's sacred grounds, where a massive ancient tree radiated a silvery glow."This is the thousand-year-old tree of the Silvermoon pack," he explained. "It is said to possess the power to communicate with the spirits of our ancestors."He led me beneath the tree, his expression more solemn than I had ever seen. "Ella, after what happened earlier today, I need to be honest with you."His crimson eyes reflected the vast, starry sky along with my own reflection. "In the previous life, after I executed Lina, I asked the Moon Goddess to guide me to my true mate. Then, I saw you."I watched you as Xavier's Luna, fighting and sacrificing everything for him, yet you never earned his full trust or respect. I saw that a place in his heart was always rese

It was a vital ceremony that acknowledged my status as Luna.Just then, a familiar Alpha scent, laced with madness and despair, shattered the celebration's peace.Xavier broke into the Silvermoon pack's territory. He was a disheveled mess with bloodshot eyes, looking like a cornered beast with nowhere to run.He roared my name, his eyes locked onto my hand clasped in Ryan's. "Ella, come back with me! You can only be my Luna!"The Silvermoon pack warriors immediately surrounded him. Their claws extended, growls rumbling threateningly from their throats.Ryan shielded me, his broad frame firm and unyielding. His golden wolf eyes burned with violence, and his voice carried a chill that cut through the air. "Xavier, leave my territory."But Xavier acted as if he hadn't heard him, his cr

He simply showed me through his actions that I was cherished.Meanwhile, the Shadowveil pack fell into unprecedented chaos. This news was delivered by patrol warriors from the Silvermoon pack. After I left, Xavier rushed into the witch's cabin like a madman, demanding an antidote. The witch's raspy voice dripped with mockery. "An antidote? Alpha Xavier, what nonsense are you talking about?"There is no undoing a forbidden potion that defies the Moon Goddess' will. You stripped Ella's wolf away with your own hands, and now you want it back?"That's Ella's wolf, the most powerful in this forest! Do you really think someone as lowly as Lina could contain such power?"Xavier froze in shock. He gripped the witch's shoulders, his eyes burning red. "That's impossible!

Ryan's voice was deep and magnetic, carrying a soothing power that instantly calmed the restless wolf inside me.I didn't hesitate for a second. I met his eyes and replied calmly, "I'm willing to go with you."Xavier froze in shock, and the disbelief in his eyes quickly twisted into madness. He roared and lunged toward me, trying to pull me away from Ryan."Ella, how dare you!" he yelled. "You can't go with him! I'm your Alpha! I'm your fated mate!"He seemed to have forgotten all the cruel things he had done to push me away.I looked at Xavier, my eyes calm and devoid of emotion.I used to believe we were destined lovers, but he destroyed that bond with his own hands. Now, I was no longer the Ella who waited desperately for him to grant me a scrap of pity.I spoke, my voice hoarse but every word clear. "Xavier, my fated mate is no longer you."As soon as I finished speaking, the color drained from Xavier's face. He stared at me in despair and mumbled, "No, this is impossible.

On the morning of the fifth day of my confinement, I suddenly felt my dormant wolf begin to howl with excitement in my mind.I knew that Ryan had arrived. He had come to find his fated mate chosen by the Moon Goddess."Ryan, welcome to the Shadowveil pack. All our unmated she-wolves who have come of age are waiting here," Xavier said.As a pure-blood Alpha, Ryan stood tall. He was terrifyingly strong, just like the Silvermoon pack he led.Lina clutched Xavier's sleeve nervously, her body trembling slightly. Xavier patted her hand to comfort her.Ryan scanned the she-wolves before him, his gaze cold and indifferent. His eyes paused on Lina briefly, but they showed no emotion. He turned back to Xavier, his voice colder than ever. "Xavier, are you trying to deceive the Moon Goddess' guidance?"Cold sweat drenched Xavier's forehead as he waved his hand desperately. "Of course not! I have no such intention!"Ryan narrowed his crimson eyes, a dangerous glint flashing within them. "Bu
