Daisy Pov

I ran until my lungs burned and my legs felt like they were going to give out beneath me.

I didn't stop until I reached the very edge of the estate grounds, far away from the main building where the lawns turned into a messy, overgrown garden.

There was a small outdoor shelter tucked away near the tall trees, mostly hidden by wild vines and thick bushes. It was just a small roofed area with a simple metal bench, but it was far enough to hide me from everyone.

I ducked inside, my ches

Daisy’s POVI stood in front of the small bathroom mirror, using a damp cloth to scrub the remaining patches of white flour from my jaw and cheeks. My hair was a bit of a mess from running around the hot kitchen all afternoon, so I pulled the hair tie out and let the dark strands fall loose around my shoulders, trying to brush through the tangles with my fingers.Once I was clean, I walked back into the bedroom and looked down at the bed where my clothes were laid out.A wave of anxiety hit my stomach as I stared at the plain, faded gray sweater and the simple dark pants I had been wearing for days. The clothes were clean, but they were completely ordinary. In a few hours, families from all over the outer territories would be gathering in the main courtyard for the biggest night of the year. Everyone would be wearing their best traditional clothing to honor the pack's history, and I was going to stick out like a sore thumb.I sank down onto the edge of the mattress, running a hand ove

  • Rebirth of the Lunar Alpha's Queen   Chapter 31: Helping Out

Daisy’s POVThe sweet smell of yeast and warm sugar was already drifting down the hallway before I even reached the kitchen door.I stood outside for a moment, listening to the loud clatter of pans and the stressed voices of the women inside. They sounded completely overwhelmed, and I knew this was my chance to make a real effort.I pushed the door open and walked in, trying to look as helpful and unthreatening as possible. The large table in the center of the room was covered in massive piles of flour, giant metal bowls, and dozens of unbaked loaves. Clara, the head cook who had turned me away earlier, was frantically wiping sweat from her forehead while trying to roll out a huge piece of dough. Two other younger women were rushing around the ovens, their faces flushed from the heat."I told you before, Miss Daisy, we really don't have time to host guests right now," Clara said, her voice tight as she struggled to knead the massive lump of dough in front of her."I'm not here to be a

Daisy’s POVKillian stood near the door of my bedroom, his massive frame blocking the only exit as he watched me pace back and forth. The morning sun was just starting to peek through the window, casting long shadows across the floor, but neither of us had slept a single wink."The council hearing starts in an hour," Killian said, his voice quiet but deep enough to vibrate through the small space between us. "Jaden is already there to make sure they don't try to sweep Cassian’s confession under the rug.""And you think Cassian will actually show up?" I asked, stopping my pacing to look at him. "He seemed pretty terrified when we left him at the docks, but he is still arrogant enough to think he can lie his way out of this.""He doesn't have a choice," Killian replied, taking a slow step toward me. "If he ignores the council, they will strip him of his titles by noon, so he has to go and try to defend himself."As Killian got closer, the air in the room seemed to grow warmer, and my ch

Daisy’s POVWe finally got out of the SUV and walked through the side door of the dark house. The quiet inside the mansion was almost a relief after the loud storm outside, but my body was still shaking from the cold rain.Killian’s large suit jacket was still draped over my shoulders, keeping me warm as we walked down the long, dim hallway toward the kitchen to get some water before heading upstairs to sleep.Killian pushed the kitchen door open, and we both stopped in our tracks. The small lights under the cabinets were turned on, casting a soft yellow glow over the room. Sitting at the large center island table was Victoria, wrapped in a long white robe and holding a warm mug between her hands. She jumped slightly when she saw us, her pale face twisting into an expression of intense anxiety before she quickly smoothed it out into something more innocent."Killian," Victoria said, her voice soft and shaky as she stood up from her stool, leaving her mug behind. "You're finally back.

Daisy’s POVThe heat of his touch lingered on my jaw for a long, quiet second before the reality of where we were finally crashed back into my mind.I blinked, suddenly realizing how close we were standing in the middle of the empty yard. I quickly took a step backward, pulling out of his grip and creating a safe distance between us. The sudden separation felt strange, leaving me feeling a bit exposed to the freezing wind.I cleared my throat, looking away from his intense eyes and focusing on the dark ground. "Yeah, we should probably get out of the rain. We need to leave."Killian blinked, shaking his head slightly as if he was also snapping out of a daze. He let his hand drop back to his side and nodded quickly. "Yes. Yes, we do. Let's go."The awkward feeling followed us all the way to the black SUV. Killian opened the passenger door for me, and I climbed inside, grateful for the shelter from the storm. He walked around the front of the vehicle and slid into the driver's seat, clo

  • Rebirth of the Lunar Alpha's Queen   Chapter 27: The Retreat

Daisy’s POVCassian stared at the blinking red light on the tablet screen, his mouth completely open as the reality of the trap sank in.His hands were shaking so hard he could barely keep his balance against the hood of his car. The high and mighty look he wore just a few minutes ago was completely gone, replaced by a pale, sickly look of pure fear."You think you won something here?" Cassian hissed, his voice cracking as he looked from the screen up to my face, his eyes twisting with hate. "You think the High Council will just cast me aside because of a little video? I made this city, Daisy. You are nothing but a ghost.""The council is already calling my private line, Cassian," Killian said, his deep voice cutting through the sound of the falling rain as he took a step forward, completely shielding me with his large frame. "Your political allies are backing out of the harbor block right now to save their own skin. Drop your weapons and get out of my sight before I have my men throw

Killian did not snap at me. He just stood there, his hand still pinned against the glass right next to my head. For a long second, the room was so quiet I could hear the faint hum of the city traffic down below. Then, his chest began to shake. A low, dark laugh came from deep inside his throat, bre

The ride to the Obsidian Estate was completely silent. The car moved smoothly through the city streets, the bright lights passing across Killian’s face.
