Mag-log inThe masquerade ball was already in full swing when I arrived.
Dominant males and females gathered together in clusters, gossiping and giggling about the ball. Their excitement was through the roof, but mine wasn't. All I wanted was to escape this ill fate that was waiting for me. Adjusting the mask I had switched with my cousin, I smoothed my dress and made my way inside. Everything was different. The mask, the dress and even the rope hanging from my waist. I made sure that there was no way that Kendall or Jace could recognise me. Not tonight, at least. “Thank you,” I whispered as I grabbed a drink. “Jace!" A voice rang out making me turn. Jace stood near the center of the hall surrounded by several Alphas. Even with a mask covering the upper half of his face, there was no mistaking him. Tall. Broad shoulders. The confident posture of a man who believed the world belonged to him. And right in his arms was Kendall. Her dress shimmered under the lights hugging her slim figure perfectly. She laughed softly at something Jace said, her hand resting lightly on his arm. Anyone watching them would think they were already mates. Lowering my head slightly, I walked past them slowly, keeping my face turned away so the mask hid me well. The music grew louder as I approached, but their voices carried clearly enough for me to hear. “Where is she?” Jace asked with mild irritation in his tone. His arms were folded across his chest as his gaze swept across the hall. My footsteps slowed for a second. They were searching for me. Kendall let out a small laugh, pretending to fix his tie. “Oh relax,” she said lightly. “Mara is probably fixing her hair for the tenth time.” Jace frowned slightly. “The ceremony will start soon.” “Please.” Kendall waved her hand dismissively. “You know Mara. She’s completely in love with you. There is no way she would miss the chance to make you her mate tonight.” My fingers slowly curled against my dress. “She’s such a fool,” Kendall continued with a mocking smile. “Completely blinded by love.” Jace pulled her in, wrapping his arms around her waist as he leaned in to kiss her. “Doesn’t matter. She is just an Omega. You're the powerful white wolf. You're the only one that I care about.” His words struck harder than any blade. For a moment my feet refused to move. I stood there, half hidden by the passing crowd, staring at the man I had once loved with my whole heart. Just an Omega. That was all I had ever been to him. Suddenly, a clear chime rang across the hall. The music slowly faded as everyone turned toward the raised platform near the center of the ballroom. One of the elders stepped forward. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he announced, “the mating ball ceremony will now begin.” Excited murmurs immediately spread through the crowd. Groups began shifting as wolves made their way toward the open space in the middle of the hall. Females stepped forward one after another, the silk ropes tied around their waists swaying gently as they walked. It was finally time. This dance that would decide my fate. The ritual was simple. During each round, a male and a female would dance together for one full song. If he fancied her, he would tug on the rope hanging on her waist. That would reveal if they were mates or not. In my past life, I had gone through three dances before Jace found me and tugged on my rope. This time, I was going to stay away from him. Stepping forward, I found myself standing across from a man dressed in a simple midnight blue suit. Compared to the others, he didn't stand out at all. Yet something about him drew my attention. He didn’t move toward me immediately like the other males were doing with their chosen partners. Instead, he simply stood there, watching me. Waiting. For a moment, I hesitated. Then the music began. Without a word, he pulled me gently toward the center of the floor. The stranger’s other hand settled at my waist, guiding me into the rhythm of the music. I placed my free hand against his shoulder as we began to move with the other couples. My eyes scanned the room, searching for Jace. He was dancing with a masked female, his eyes darting around everywhere as if he was searching for me. “Focus,” Before I could respond, he pulled me towards him. A gasp escaped my lips as I fell into his arms. I froze. His muscles were hard and firm. Not like the soft ones on the sons of Alphas who spent their days doing nothing. “Do you like it?” he asked, a smirk forming on his lips. I tore my gaze away and stepped back. “What are you talking about?” I asked, trying to stay calm. “I don't know what you're talking about.” Gently, he swirled me around the floor. “You shouldn't be acting shy,” he whispered, pulling me closer again. “Mara.” My gaze shifted to him. “You know my name?” The music slowly ended and everyone stepped back. I looked at Jace again. He stepped back, smiling courteously at the girl in front of him before his eyes scanned the room again. I knew he was searching for me. Turning around, I was just about to leave when I felt a tug on my waist. “What are you—” I asked as I stared at the stranger in front of me. Suddenly, a golden thread wrapped our wrists. Everyone gasped as they watched us, their hands flying up to their mouths. “Mate,” the stranger said softly as his eyes flashed wolf. My heart started pounding fast. Was he my fated mate? Impossible. Jace was my fated mate in my past life. There is no way it would suddenly change. “She found her fated mate on the first dance?” “Wow, she is so lucky.” “This has never happened before.” Their words blurred out as I stared at the man who was my fated mate. Had something changed because I hid away from Jace? “Who are you?” I asked quietly. “I want to know who my fated mate is.” “You don't know,” he said as his hand reached out to remove his mask. “How long I have waited for you to say those words, Mara Bennett.” Gasps filled the hall the moment his face was revealed. “Alpha King!” the elder shouted as he rushed forward. My eyes widened. “Silas?” I whispered. The golden thread linking us brightened for a second as dread filled my heart. “Oh no,” I whispered. This can't be.Silas's POV For a moment, I simply stared at her. The question caught me off guard. Not because I didn't know the answer. But because out of everything that had happened today, that was the one thing she wanted to know. The engine hummed softly as the car idled in the hospital parking lot. Sunlight streamed through the windshield, casting a warm glow across her face. Mara was looking at me expectantly. Waiting. Was she jealous? "Quincy is like a sister to me. Nothing else." I said before turning my gaze back to the road ahead. In one swift movement, I pulled the car out and headed toward the mansion. The ride home was quiet. Much quieter than I expected. I expected Mara to argue with me. Maybe continue asking questions about Quincy. Maybe be jealous. But instead, she remained silent. I glanced at her a few times during the drive. She was staring out the window. Thinking. About what, I had no idea. By the time the mansion came into view, I was alr
"Finally, I know your secret." Silas smiled as he stood with his arms folded. He looked proud of himself as if he knew some sort of life changing secret that he could use against me later. My eyes darted to his. "Shut up. It actually hurts." The room became silent for a second before Silas reached out and grabbed a glove out of the glove box beside the doctor. "I'll do it." he said as he casually slipped it on like a professional. "What?" "I said I will check on it. Just lend me your office and don't disturb us." Silas said like he was giving an order to a subordinate. The middle aged doctor glared at him. "Are you a doctor? I can't just leave my patient with—" "Out." The doctor blinked, confused. "I beg your pardon?" "I said out." The doctor opened his mouth again, probably ready to argue, but Silas was already pulling out his wallet. He took out a black card and placed it on the desk. The doctor's eyes flickered to it. "Whatever this office earns i
Quincy’s eyes widened the second she saw Zion standing beside me. “Zion?” she repeated slowly as she walked up to us with her hand firmly wrapped around her teddy bear. I hated seeing her with it. Did Silas win it for her? Zion’s fingers tightened around mine for the briefest second before he let go calmly. Silas stared at us, his eyes lingering on our hands for a second before he looked up. "I didn't expect to see both of you here," Quincy started as she tightened her hand on Silas's. "This is Silas Sinclair, my special friend. Silas, this is Zion, the top male student at the medical school. " I resisted the urge to roll my eyes as I heard Quincy introduce Silas as her "special friend". "Hello Quincy's special friend," I said, extending my hand out as I held his gaze. "Nice to meet you." "Nice to meet you too," Silas said taking my hand. Both of us held each other’s gaze for a second too long. His grip tightened around my hand slightly, warm and firm, and I imm
MARA He actually left. I paced around his study, my chest rising hard as anger burned through me. That arrogant bastard. My lips still tingled from the kiss and it only made me angrier. My body felt hot, weak in the knees, and completely out of control. I hated it. Hated the way he could touch me and make my thoughts scatter so easily. I stopped near the desk and gripped the edge tightly. “You will regret this,” I muttered under my breath again as I stood facing the mirror. The worst part was that he knew exactly what he was doing to me. Every touch. Every kiss. Every look. And that stupid smirk on his face before he walked out. I groaned in frustration and dragged a hand through my hair before moving toward the window. The cold glass beside me reminded me of how he had pinned me there only minutes ago. My face heated instantly. Moon goddess. Why did my body react to him like that? Suddenly, my phone rang out bringing me out of my thoughts. I reac
SILAS Her voice reached me before she even stepped into the study. I didn’t move from where I sat behind the desk. One hand pressed against my forehead, the other resting on the arm of the chair, my gaze fixed on the window. The room was dark, lit only by the desk lamp and the faint glow from the fireplace across the room. I hadn’t shifted from that spot for over an hour. I was exhausted. And angry. Twenty missed calls. Not one returned. My wolf had gone ballistic, pushing me to go after her and I listened. I drove forty minutes straight to her school just to be sure she was alright. The drive wasn’t easy. My heart wouldn’t slow down, my mind running through every possible thing that could have gone wrong. I was worried. Confused. I kept asking the moon goddess to keep her safe, just in case something had happened. And then I found her. Safe. Smiling. Laughing with a vampire. "Silas?" Mara’s voice came again as the door opened. I felt her presence the moment she
I didn’t even realize how much time had passed. One moment I was focused completely on the Lunaris Bloom, adjusting settings and trying different stabilizing methods, and the next, I noticed the light in the lab had shifted without me paying attention. The sharp morning brightness was gone, replaced by a softer glow that told me the day had already slipped away from me. My hands slowed as I finally registered it. Evening. I froze for a second, staring at the equipment like it had betrayed me. “How is it already evening…” I whispered. My chest tightened slightly as I reached for my phone on the table. I hadn’t checked it all day, not even once, and the moment I pressed the screen, it lit up with missed notifications that made my stomach drop. Twenty missed calls. All from Silas. For a few seconds, I just stared at his name, unable to move. That wasn’t normal. Silas didn’t call repeatedly unless something was wrong or unless he was already angry. My thumb moved slowl
"Tonight was fun!" I yelled as I shook my body, my shoulders moving up and down as the car moved. Silas sat down beside me, his eyes holding me in place. I had no idea what he was thinking. Did he have more questions? Was he wondering how I knew that Jace had only 800 million for the auction?
All eyes turned to me, the hall going silent. Reporters and other important figures from different packs stood present as I walked down the stairs slowly heading to the stage. I stared at Kendall, watching as she rubbed her hands nervously. This time, I wasn't going to let her steal my research p
