Cameroon came into the restaurant on that particular night with his brother and brother’s girlfriend. They had decided to have a proper meal together before Cameroon’s trial which was six days away. Cameroon had picked the restaurant. He had never been there but had been drawn to it after seeing an interesting advert about the restaurant some days back. so he had made a mental note of it. And when his brother asked that they have dinner together, the restaurant had popped right into his head.
He had been so tensed since his former roommate and friend, Fred Cooper died. And it didn’t help that he was now being charged with the murder. And was facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison. For a crime, he did not commit.
So when his brother, Austin had brought up the idea of them having dinner together, he had jumped at it.
He welcomed anything that could take his mind off his pending trial.
As they approached the yacht, Cameroon had
Cameroon sat at the passenger seat of his BMW. His brother, Austin was driving. Austin’s girlfriend was at the back of the vehicle. The car was dead silent. Austin was the first to speak. “maybe we should find somewhere else.” Austin looked into the mirror so he could catch his girlfriend’s eye. She noticed and looked up to him. “where are you thinking?” she asked. “anywhere I guess. It will be difficult to find a good place on such short notice. Do you think you could find something nice with your phone? Maybe check online?” “Sure babe.” She responded as she pulled out her phone. Cameroon finally spoke. “I don’t want to go anywhere. I just want to go home.” “Nope, buddy. We agreed. We’re spending tonight together.” “I am not hungry anymore.” Cameroon objected. “fine. Let’s go to a bar then. You aren’t spending tonight alone.” Austin stated with authority. “what are you now? Dad?
Dave and Susan had arrived at the hospital some minutes after the ambulance brought Elena in. Vanessa had called them about Elena’s fainting episode. They had rushed to the ER. Worried that something worse had happened. That the faint was connected to the coma she just came out of. Dave especially was upset. He blamed himself. He had felt uncomfortable when Elena stepped out with her friends, so he felt responsible for not insisting that she stay back. Susan had to remind him that Elena wasn’t a little girl anymore. That he couldn’t exactly make Elena stay home just because he said so. And she had felt that spending the night with her friends would help with her memories. Or at least help her get back on track. After they got to the hospital, the ER doctor had already checked on Elena and ran some tests. The doctor had told them that the faint was a random one and nothing in her brain seemed to have triggered it. She was probably tired. The do
After a long eventful night, Austin dropped Cameroon off at his house. Cameroon said goodbye and walked into his empty house. As he approached the stairs, he didn’t feel the emptiness that usually accompanied him whenever he came home. On this particular night, he felt at ease. Peaceful even. He walked into his house and fell on his couch immediately. He didn’t turn on his lights. He picked up his phone and dropped it back so many times. Like he had done since he left the hospital. He was waiting for her call. And it didn’t come. He gave himself a light smack on his head. How stupid he had been. How stupid. He should have taken her number instead. What was he thinking? Why did he ask her to call him? He smacked himself again. How stupid he had been. As he lay in the dark, he tried to remember where he had known her. And why he had been so drawn to her. He searched his head, he hadn’t even gotten her name. He felt stupid. Why did he fee
Cameroon’s trial was days away. And he was meeting with his lawyer on Monday morning. He had spent the previous day, waiting for the call that didn’t come. he was heartbroken. And for a guy who was probably going to spend his life in prison, his trial was the second thing on his mind. The first was her.
Cameroon’s heart raced as he heard her voice. And her name. Elena. How appropriate. There was a long pause. None of them said anything. They simply listened to each other’s breathing. His own, deeper than hers.Elena was the first to break the silence.“hi.” She said one word. One word that held the deepest emotions that any human could ever convey. And he felt it too. The connection.Cameroon ran his hands across his hair.“hi.” He responded.Another silence followed. He connected the call to the speakers in his car. By the time she spoke again, her voice traveled around the car.“what are you up to?” Elena asked him.“I’m sitting in my car. Was going to take a drive to my lawyer’s office.” He replied.“lawyer. Do you want to share?” Elena inquired. “sure. “Cameroon said. He wanted to share with her. Tell her everything that was going on. He had the urge to spill it all. Not hold back. But he didn’t want to do that over the phone. He wante
Dave, Elena’s father coughed. Deliberately. But they didn’t bulge. They were locked in each other’s arms. Dave coughed again. Then again. This time, Elena pulled away. Cameroon let her go easily. His hands lingered on her hair. She had washed them as he suggested. And she hadn’t dried them. So they were still wet. He let her go. Elena turned to face her dad. “I’m going out briefly with him.” Dave didn’t respond. But he had thoughts running through his head. He had lost his daughter, not physically but all her memories were gone. And he was helping her get back into a schedule. And here was this guy, an alleged murderer, wanting to take her away. He was uncomfortable. But he also realized that Elena was an adult. And even though he loved her, he had to always remember that she was responsible for her decisions. She didn’t need his permission to go out. Even if it meant going out with this guy that stood in his living roo
Elena sat by the door of her bedroom. Her back to it. she had her knees curled up and her head buried into them. She cried. She had not seen that reaction coming. Not after they had made such passionate love-making to one another. For minutes she sat and cried. Not loud cries but soft gentle deep tears. She heard Susan come up to the door. Heard her ask “honey. Are you okay/ would you like me to come in? or do you need a minute?” Elena didn’t respond. She pressed her back against the door and when Susan tried to open it, she was met with some sort of resistance so she didn’t bother. For the first time since she traveled back in time, Elena missed her home. The future. She allowed herself to think of her sisters, her mother, and her best friend, Cheryl. Elena opened the door to the memories. A door she had shut. And as she opened up to them, the memories and the emotions they held flooded her head. She couldn’t place it. She was sure he felt the same w
Cameroon sat in his lawyer’s office and listened to everything that was being said. The lawyer was speaking about the next steps to take with his trial. He said something about a meeting with the presiding judge. Cameroon was trying his best to pay attention to his lawyer but it wasn’t working. He kept getting distracted over and over again. His mind wandered. To her. Elena. He was lost in the thoughts of her and soon, he could no longer hear the words been spoken by the lawyer. He was lost. His mind kept going back to those moments, where he had finally buried himself inside of her. It had been mind-blowing.He didn’t understand how he could have such a connection with her. In all his life, he had glided through as a playboy. Never fully committing himself to anyone. Even to his wife. But with Elena, it was different. It felt as if he didn’t even have a say in the matter. She owned him. His body. His soul. His spirit.“Cameroon.” His lawyer spoke.Cameroon di
