Chapter 6

Auteur: Crystal K
Darkness. Endless darkness.

I didn't know if it had been two days or three.

In this freezing dungeon, I was like a dying zombie, my breaths laced with ice shards.

Finally, on the evening of the third day, the door opened.

A guard brought in a steaming plate of premium human food and threw it on the icy floor.

I had no hands.

My wrist bones had been completely crushed to powder by Julian's shadow magic.

But I had to survive. Cassian was coming to pick me up tonight.

Like a dying beast, I dropped to my knees, crawled on the freezing ground, and pressed my mouth to the edge of the plate, wolfing down the warm food.

Humiliating?

No. As long as I could escape this hell, dignity meant nothing.

When the plate was empty, I saw a perfumed parchment slip pressed underneath.

It was Giselle's cursive handwriting:

[Sister, Julian and I forge our Eternal Blood Pact tonight. At the altar.]

I looked at the line and couldn't even bother to sneer.

I pressed the note down with my elbow, letting it soak in the cold leftovers.

I didn't care at all about this ridiculous ceremony.

Soon after, chaotic footsteps echoed outside.

Two elite guards charged in roughly. They grabbed my arms like dragging a corpse.

The violent pulling on my broken wrists made my vision go black, nearly making me pass out from the pain.

They dragged my weak body all the way to the shadowed balcony of the castle's grand hall.

The center of the hall was brilliantly lit.

Giselle, looking rosy and showing zero signs of post-miscarriage weakness, walked over.

Wearing an extravagant gown, she looked down at me slumped on the floor. Suddenly, she crouched down and whispered in my ear.

"Sister, seeing you so miserable, let me tell you a secret." Giselle giggled.

"The baby I lost that day wasn't Julian's at all."

"I got pregnant with someone else's child in Europe and implanted a fake blood crystal. Rather than giving birth and having Julian find out, it was better to use your hands to kill it." She looked at me smugly. "You see, Julian didn't doubt me at all. He even ruined you with his own hands for that bastard."

My pupils contracted sharply. Then, an indescribable sense of relief washed over me.

I wasn't angry. I just felt Julian was a complete fool.

I was even thankful for that deep freeze, sparing my child from being born into this family of lies.

The castle bell tolled. The ceremony officially began.

Through the balcony railing, I saw Julian sitting on his high throne.

He wasn't looking at Giselle. He was holding a glass of pure blood, drinking it with a hollow, melancholy look in his eyes.

I knew he was mourning the heir that never belonged to him.

He broke his heart over a bastard, but murdered his true flesh and blood.

The biggest joke in the world.

Halfway through the ceremony, the High Priest raised the holy chalice filled with their blended blood, ready to declare the vows.

Suddenly, the low roar of an engine shattered the dead silence of the night sky.

A pitch-black stealth jet hovered ominously over the castle without warning.

The next second, the cabin door flew open.

A torrential rain of red crystals and ancient silver coins poured down!

Priceless pure blood crystals, mixed with ancient 'Blood Pact Buyout' silver coins, smashed onto the marble floor with crisp, mocking clatters.

In the old laws, this was the ultimate insult: a public buyout of a discarded mate.

The crowd went into an uproar. The pureblood nobles stared in horror at this provocation falling from the sky.

"My Lord!" Marcus rushed forward in a panic. "It's Prince Cassian of Europe! This is... his congratulatory gift!"

"Crash!"

Julian crushed his wine glass to powder!

Crimson blood mixed with glass shards pierced his palm.

He shot up, his crimson eyes blazing with raw, murderous fury.

"The sky-wards! Raise them now! Blast that jet out of the sky!" Julian's roar was pure fury.

But he miscalculated one thing.

The jet didn't bother with the lawn. It made an impossibly agile dive, landing perfectly on the clock tower's high platform.

The hatch opened. Cassian, in his black trench coat, leapt out.

He strode toward me and immediately saw me collapsed on the floor, my hands twisted and dangling.

The smile vanished from Cassian's eyes. They erupted into black pits of cold, violent fury.

Without a single word, he took off his warm trench coat, wrapped it tightly around my freezing body, and picked me up bridal-style, extremely careful to avoid my shattered wrists.

"I'm sorry I'm late." His hoarse voice suppressed extreme rage.

I leaned against his chest, smelling his comforting cold scent, and gritted my teeth. "Cassian, as long as I live, I will repay this debt."

The jet ascended rapidly.

I leaned back in the comfortable aviation seat, looking down.

Through the amplified magic array, the High Priest's solemn voice echoed: "Lord Julian, are you willing to share immortal blood with Giselle, and forge the eternal..."

Below, Julian didn't answer. He was staring dead at the direction our jet was flying.

The same hand that had so casually signed our pact away now clenched into a white-knuckled fist.

I withdrew my gaze and never looked at that man again.

The moonlight was cold and clear. I was heading toward freedom.

As for the rotting mess below, it was all in the past.

The day Julian was stripped of all titles and exiled from North America by the Vampire Supreme Court, I accompanied Cassian to watch the trial. The ancient court was solemn. Twelve elders sat on the high platform, reading the final verdict on the former North American Overlord."Stripped of all vampire privileges, permanently exiled, forbidden to set foot in any Lord's territory."Julian stood in the defendant's box. The silver shackles on his body gleamed under the magic array. He didn't look at the elders. Through the crowd, he kept his eyes locked on me.After the trial, I walked to the edge of the array."Calista." His voice was hoarse, his eyes shining with a final flicker of hope. "You didn't kill me yourself. This gives me a glimmer of hope to rise again. I will prove myself, I will—""Bang! Bang!"Two deafening gunshots cut him off.Cassian unabashedly pulled out a handgun loaded with high-concentration liquid silver and precisely shattered Julian's left and right shoulder join

Julian was shackled in magic-suppressing silver chains and locked in the deepest dungeon of the European castle. For three whole days, he refused to drink any blood. He was gambling. Gambling that as a human, I still had a shred of sympathy left and couldn't bear to watch him dry up and die.On the evening of the third day, I walked into the cell carrying a bag of synthetic blood. The sight before me felt incredibly ironic. The once supreme North American overlord now had sunken eyes from extreme starvation. His sharp fangs protruded uncontrollably, looking thoroughly wretched. The roles of predator and prey had completely reversed.I tossed the bag onto the floor. It landed with a wet slap, just beyond his reach.Julian turned his head away, refusing to look at the life-saving blood."I don't need your charity." His voice was hoarse but carried his final bit of stubbornness.I picked up a silver letter opener, pressing the point to my wrist until a single, perfect bead of crimson well

"Cassian!" I screamed in despair, rushing out like a madwoman. After only two steps, a sharp tearing pain erupted in my stomach.I clutched my abdomen in agony and curled up on the stone floor of the hallway."Madam, let's go! The place is coming down!"Marcus rushed out from nowhere, pulled me up, and forced me into an armored vehicle.Engines roaring, the car shot into the night like an arrow. But less than a hundred meters out, the car slammed on the brakes. The violent impact literally ripped the car doors off.A battered Julian stood dead center in front of the car.The hem of his expensive bespoke shirt was scorched. His face was covered in soot and burn marks, looking like a ghoul fresh out of hell. With a wave of his hand, violent magic blasted Marcus dozens of meters away."Get lost," he rasped, eyes blood-red.Julian strode into the cabin. Extremely careful to avoid my wrists, he scooped me up."Let me go! I have to save him!" I struggled frantically, tears flooding down."He

Cassian's estate was like an isolated fortress.I spent a peaceful, cherished time there. No lies, no cold violence. Only his meticulous tenderness and absolute favoritism.Until three days ago, Cassian told me there was a sudden crisis in the clan's senate, and he had to return to suppress it personally. He kissed my forehead, promised to return soon, and left. For three whole days, there was no news.Just as I was getting anxious, my micro-communicator blinked red.It was Marcus calling on the encrypted channel."Madam! Something terrible happened!" Marcus's voice carried unprecedented terror. "The Lord has gone mad! He unilaterally declared war on Prince Cassian through the Vampire Court!""What?!" I shot up."The Lord mobilized all of North America's elite forces at any cost, launching a frantic attack on Cassian's stronghold in Europe! Vampires are dying by the numbers. The Lord swore... he must bring Cassian's heart back to Los Angeles!"My brain buzzed. For me? He actually start

I forcefully yanked my hand away, completely expressionless."I don't care for it. I will never go back with you."Rejected, Julian shot up. A flash of stubborn paranoia crossed his eyes."No! You must come with me!" He gritted his teeth, staring dead at my stomach. "That quack doctor said you miscarried. You suffered such severe trauma in the Frost Dungeon, you absolutely cannot stay in this dangerous place! You must return to North America, and I will use the clan's full power to help you recover..."He was still lying to himself. He still thought the miscarriage was a "quack doctor's" misdiagnosis, or he wanted to force me back to make amends.Looking at his self-absorbed face, I looked down and touched my still-flat stomach."Since you know everything, you should understand. Julian, your heir is dead. And all I have left for you is disgust.""What?!"Julian's body froze violently. His eyes locked dead onto my flat abdomen. The red glow in his eyes looked like it would drip blood."

Calista’s POVIn Europe, Cassian provided me with an absolutely safe umbrella of protection.I picked up my dream of antique art restoration again.Cassian mobilized his massive ancient family resources, brought in the best orthopedic surgeons, and paired them with the European royal family's healing magic to miraculously rebuild my shattered wrists.Though they left two hideous scars, I could finally hold a paintbrush again. At this moment, I was standing on high scaffolding, coloring a medieval oil painting. My foot slipped.Cassian blurred into an afterimage and caught me securely in his arms. This was the third time this week."It seems I shouldn't let you touch such high murals," he chuckled softly, carrying me safely to the ground. His eyes fell on the two terrifying scars on my wrists, and his gaze darkened.I smiled bitterly, not trying to hide them. "A parting gift from my ex-husband. A masterpiece of his cruelty. It's hideous, isn't it?""Julian is a tasteless barbarian." Cas
