Chapter 3: Contract and marriage

Raine's POV

I know that my offer was unreasonable and I was acting absurdly. While we were eating, I pretended to check my phone for emails, but in reality, I was looking up information about Kai on the internet.

I initially thought I had remembered incorrectly, but it turns out I was right. Kai has been a talent at Harper Entertainment for ten years and was about to sign another two-year contract with them.

However, I am determined not to let that happen. I smiled and closed my eyes. I kissed the man who had previously saved me. Kai's gentle lips met mine, and I'm afraid either. I had never kissed a guy before. I don't know how to kiss!

"At least part your lips," Kai suddenly instructed, holding my chin.

Before I could respond, he took the opportunity to kiss me in a different way, with his tongue in my mouth and his saliva tasting like red wine.

When we finally parted, I felt that the kiss had been too long for a simple return kiss. As I took a step away, he unexpectedly held some strands of my hair and kissed them. That smirk on Kai's lips was telling me that he proves something about me and… I don't care.

Macey murmured, "We're doomed," as she stood beside me.

It was clear that both George and Macey were taken aback by the intensity of our conversation, especially when we ended up kissing.

I had been concealing my feelings ever since I first locked eyes with Kai. I'll never forget the time he snuck into my hospital room to sing and reveal himself as my benefactor. It was then that I fell deeply and madly in love with him.

George expressed his concern, saying, "I'm sorry, ma'am Raine, for what Kai did!" I just smiled and extended my hand to Kai, who took it as we gazed at each other, both grinning.

"Then take care of me from now on," we both said.

The shock on George and Macey's faces was priceless, as they never expected Kai to agree to it. Kai then mentioned his plan to hold a press conference tomorrow to announce his departure from Harper Entertainment and his contract signing with EGE.

He also asked about announcing our marriage. We let go of each other's hands. I am determined to witness Emma's reaction first.

Two days will be enough to observe the kind of scandalous and blackmailing tactics she will employ to keep Kai in their company and lead him astray. I am determined to stop her, whatever it takes.

Emma will lose this game no matter how treacherous she is. "I have no objection to publicly announcing my marriage. You are the man and the superstar here. It is your decision whether you are prepared to become a hot topic in town," I responded.

I returned to my seat, and so did he. Our companion had no option but to sit and listen to our conversation. I am aware that Macey will reprimand me while driving me home.

Now that I am powerful and wealthy, I will use my resources to ensure Kai's safety and prevent him from encountering such a fate again.

I am uncertain whether this is reality or just a dream at this moment, but I have already made up my mind. Whether this is merely a fantasy or a daydream, I will take action to the best of my ability!

"I don't mind at all. I've already spent my youth running away from my stalkers, fans, and the people in this industry. Embracing new challenges and excitement is not a bad idea, right?" he responded. I chuckled. This celebrity is more entertaining than the nice and sweet image he portrays.

His expression shifts as he gazes at me intensely. "I have to warn you. Emma is obsessed with me. She won't give up easily until you back down so that I will continue to stay in Harper Entertainment. She's not as simple as you might think. Emma is crazier than you expected her to be," he says.

I scooped another bite of my chocolate cheesecake, gesturing with the spoon as I took a bite. I pointed the spoon at him. "Obsessed with you?" I smirked and locked eyes with him.

I place my hand on my cheek while leaning my elbow on the table. I grinned mischievously. "I'm Raine El Greco, darling. I'm untouchable, as are the people around me, especially the things that belong to me. I don't share, and if someone wants them, I'll crush them until they beg and kiss the ground," I stated. Macey gasped.

It's not bad to be born with money and power because you can use that to crush those selfish people who use money for their bad desires. I now have the right to be selfish and greedy.

This new self of mine is dominant but she never uses her money to destroy lives without any valid reason. He laughs and must have enjoyed the expression that I made.

"Ma'am Raine, Kai is right. We came here to reject your offer because of the threats we received from Emma Harper. She will never let her go and it's better for us to—" I interrupt George with a raised hand.

"I don’t care about her. Your boss has already given me an answer. Are you going to stay there even if Emma is holding your neck, George? This is your opportunity to work without any worries," I suggested.

He gulps. I know he wants to accept the offer but he’s torn by his fear of Emma. That woman... she really wanted to ruin Kai’s life and she started by controlling and instilling fear in George’s heart. Kai looks at him and George sighs.

"I’ll take that as a yes, then. Don’t worry about Emma. I can handle her. I’m the queen; there’s no way she can surpass me," I declared.

They both just sigh. We began discussing the contract and the projects that would be lined up for him. I never realized the El Greco Business Empire was bigger than I thought.

We operate a television and radio station where a drama series producer secures time slots for their productions. In addition, I am the owner of a shipping company, Aviation Company, and a dairy factory on a large farm in Missouri.

"It's settled then. Before your press conference tomorrow, you must meet with Macey. She will handle the registration of our marriage certificate. I need to head home early and get a good night's sleep. I've been working hard lately and I really need some rest." I glanced at Macey and she gave a nod.

"We'll go out together. I don't have any appointments for today either," Kai said. We left the restaurant and I pretended to be tired so that Macey wouldn't scold me.

Early in the morning, Macey arrived at the mansion with the marriage contract for me to sign. I instructed her to meet him as early as possible because his press conference is scheduled for 9 a.m.

I have to hire someone who will guard him, secretly follow him, and update me on the things that Kai will do throughout the day. I need that guard to protect him and George from the possible danger that Emma will cause them.

"Ma'am Raine, why did you do that? I've been trying to analyze why you would do such a thing but I can’t find it even in the deepest part of my brain. Why?!" she asks.

I look at her. "Tell me, is it wrong to be selfish, hmm?"
