Chapter 4

مؤلف: Lucky Squash
The interrogation room lights were blindingly white.

Several printouts of communication logs were laid out across the long metal table, right beside my laptop.

Two enforcers stood by the door, while three Council scribes and a pack tech specialist sat inside.

And Ethan, as the Alpha heir of the Blood Moon Pack, sat right beside the head seat.

He looked at me with cold, detached eyes, as if waiting for me to confess.

I sat restrained in the chair, a temporary wolf-bane inhibitor collar locked around my neck, suppressing my inner wolf's power completely.

Yet I felt no fear.

When you haven't committed a crime, there is nothing to fear.

"What was the exact transmission timestamp?" I asked, my voice steady.

The tech specialist flipped through the file. "Yesterday morning at 10:13 AM."

I looked directly at Ethan.

"At that time, I was still hospitalized. My laptop was sitting in the apartment. Please pull the apartment's surveillance footage, along with my hospital admission logs."

The room fell dead silent.

Does favoritism really make someone lose their mind?

I looked at Ethan, who clearly wasn't using his head, and then at Vivian behind him, whose face had drained of all color.

Her knuckles turned white as she clutched the hem of her shirt.

"I-It could have been a scheduled send!" Vivian suddenly shrieked, her voice shrill and panicked. "She must have programmed it in advance! It's her! She's jealous of me, so she's framing me!"

"I never said you were the one who touched my laptop," I replied smoothly, my tone completely unbothered. "We can just dust the laptop for fingerprints. That shouldn't be difficult, right?"

Vivian's expression shattered completely.

She whipped her head toward Ethan, her voice trembling frantically: "Ethan... help me. I didn't mean to... it was an accident..."

Ethan fell silent for several seconds before turning to the enforcers. "Suspend the interrogation temporarily. I need to speak with Elia alone."

The officials filed out of the room.

Once the door shut, only the two of us remained.

Ethan stood across from me, his brows knit tight.

"Elia, listen to me. It's just temporary custody; nothing bad will happen to you. But Vivian is different. Her parents are extremely strict. If they find out she did something like this, they'll literally beat her to death."

Those words struck my chest like a poisoned needle.

First came the sharp sting, followed by pure, burning rage.

I raised my head and locked eyes with him, my voice colder than ice:

"Did you forget that my parents were Council members who died protecting our pack? Do you honestly think they raised a daughter who would sell out our people?"

"Or do you think just because my parents are dead, anyone can step on me and walk away clean?"

Ethan's face paled.

But I wasn't finished. His blatant favoritism wasn't even the worst part. What disgusted me to my core was:

"You are the Alpha heir of this pack, yet you're trying to harbor a traitor who leaked pack secrets."

I stared right through him, enunciating every syllable:

"You have completely lost your mind."

Ethan opened his mouth, trying to offer an explanation.

Instead, I raised my wrist, shaking my smartwatch in front of his face.

"I recorded everything you just said. I will submit this directly to the Council."

His pupils dilated in pure horror.

Ignoring him, I pressed the intercom button on the wall: "Enforcers, please enter. I have new evidence to submit."

The audio recording was duplicated instantly. The fingerprint analysis results came back at almost the exact same time.

Vivian's fingerprints were all over the keyboard and chassis.

The evidence was undeniable.

I was cleared of all charges and released immediately.

I didn't linger for a single second. Today was my final countdown.

I went straight back to the apartment, threw open the closet, and packed all my clothes along with my father's research materials into my suitcase.

My movements were swift, clean, and decisive.

Half an hour later, I rolled my suitcase out the door.

This time, it was my turn to leave.

As I boarded the plane, the wolf inside me began to thrash anxiously. Sensing the distance growing between us and our fated mate, she let out low, mournful whines.

The tearing sensation from the depths of our soul bond was sharp and visceral.

I comforted her gently. After all, staying bound to someone who doesn't love you hurts far worse.

Suddenly, Ethan's voice shattered the silence of our lingering bond, crashing into my mind with unprecedented panic and hoarseness:

[Elia, what are you doing? Why is our bond fading?!]

In the end, Vivian was sentenced to prison.Because Ethan had harbored her and obstructed justice, the Council opened a formal review to decide whether he was still fit to remain the pack's Alpha heir.None of that mattered to me anymore.Autumn in Boston carried a sharper chill than in the Blood Moon Pack.Standing by the lab bench, I entered the latest sequencing results of the werewolf genetic samples into the database.Bryan walked over, setting a cup of hot coffee next to my hand."Up until 2:00 AM again?" he asked softly, a helpless smile tugging at his lips. "Dr. Paul said if you keep pulling all-nighters, he's revoking your lab privileges for three days."I looked up and smiled faintly. "Just need the final control group data. I'll rest once it's done."He didn't lecture me, simply pulling up a stool to review the monitors by my side.My phone buzzed.Another text from Ethan using yet another burner number. No matter how many numbers I blocked, he never gave up.Over the past t

Ethan didn't leave right away.He stood at the end of the street outside the research facility, looking like a lost dog waiting for me to change my mind.I never looked back.Only after his silhouette completely vanished from the street did I turn and walk back inside. The moment the heavy glass doors clicked shut, a long breath escaped my chest.A few minutes later, my phone buzzed on the desk. The caller ID flashed a name:Vivian.I ignored it.The phone rang again and again, relentless. Finally, I pressed accept."Elia!"The moment the call connected, Vivian's voice screeched through the speaker. She sounded completely hysterical, her panic barely contained."Did Ethan go find you?!"I didn't answer. Her breathing turned ragged and erratic."What kind of spell did you put on him?! Why is he only looking at you now?!"I leaned back against the breakroom sofa, listening calmly to her unravel. Her voice spiked into a manic scream:"Don't think for a second that him going after you mean

Elia's POVTo my surprise, Dr. Paul had actually arranged for someone to pick me up at the airport. He was tall, with rich dark brown hair and striking blue eyes, standing out effortlessly in the bustling crowd. The moment he spotted me, he walked over."Miss Carlson, I'm Bryan. Do you remember me?"I paused, slightly taken aback. The name sounded vaguely familiar.Yet no matter how much I searched my memories, I couldn't match the face in front of me to anyone from my past.Feeling a bit embarrassed, I shook my head."I'm sorry, I..."Bryan chuckled warmly."Don't worry about it.""We went to the same college, same department. You were always ranked first in every exam, and I was the eternal runner-up."He gave an easy shrug."That's why you left such a deep impression on me."He looked at me, genuine warmth lighting up his eyes."I've always admired and respected you, very much."With that, he extended his hand toward me."It's an honor to work and learn alongside you again."I took

I practically slammed the pedal through the floorboard as I sped back to the apartment. The engine roared in my ears, but my mind was a terrifying blank. The bond was broken. Dead. Before the car even came to a complete halt, I kicked the door open and sprinted out.The seconds inside the elevator felt like an eternity. The moment the doors slid open, I charged straight into the apartment. The living room was completely empty.Sitting on the table was the dirty coffee mug I had brewed for Vivian this morning. Her sickly-sweet perfume still hung in the air, but there wasn't a trace of Elia's scent anywhere. My stomach dropped."Elia?!"Silence.I strode toward the master bedroom and yanked the door open.I froze on the threshold.Sprawled across the bed were Vivian's baby-pink sheets. Her skincare bottles and chargers cluttered the nightstand, and the closet doors hung open, packed full of her clothes. My fists clenched so tightly my knuckles popped, a brutal wave of clarity hitting me.

Ethan's POVDusk had already fallen by the time I escorted Vivian out of the Council hall. The moment we got into the car, she crawled over the center console and sat directly in my lap, wrapping herself tightly around me.Her body was trembling."Ethan..." She buried her face into the crook of my neck, her voice small and fragile. "I was so scared today."My hands hovered in the air, freezing before I could touch her.It had been so long since I held anyone like this.Suddenly, thoughts of Elia flooded my mind.Ever since I brought Vivian back from the airport, I hadn't truly held Elia once. I could barely even remember the warmth of her kiss. When she was lying in that hospital bed injured, I was supposed to be there; yet the moment Vivian appeared, my attention, my time, and even my heartbeats seemed to stray entirely. The girl in my arms suddenly looked up."Ethan?"I snapped out of my daze.In the next second, Vivian's lips pressed against the corner of my mouth. Her kiss was soft

  • Reborn I Let My Alpha Choose Her   Chapter 5

The moment the plane soared beyond the borders of the Blood Moon Pack, I felt that invisible tether inside me snap with brutal finality.Ethan's desperate voice echoed in my mind.Yet I didn't answer. Not once. I stayed silent until his voice vanished completely. At first, my inner wolf suffered terribly. She clawed and howled inside my chest, her agony tearing at my ribs.I closed my eyes, gripping the armrests tightly as cold sweat dripped down my forehead."Enough," I whispered to her firmly in my mind. "We don't need to stay shackled to a man like that."Her whines gradually grew faint. The pain lingered, but she stopped thrashing. It was as if she finally realized that letting go brought far more peace than holding on to poison.Outside the window, a thick sea of clouds rolled beneath us as the plane cruised steadily toward North America.Boston, here I come.Meanwhile, back in the Council hall, the air was suffocatingly tense.Ethan shot up from his seat, his face ghostly pale.T
