No healing

Ava Wilson POV:

I feel numb, nothing more. He may be happy, but this embrace burns my entire body with pain. I'm consumed by misery and I don't even know how to react.

Here I thought I would fight for my pack and everything we have. Yet, seeing him now, I don't know what comes over me. I find myself ready to accept it.

He makes it clear who is more important to him, leaving me with nothing to fight for. I don't even matter.

"I love you, Ava," Austin breaks the hug and kisses my forehead with a smile. His genuine happiness with my decision is evident. He can't even see my tears and broken state.

"It's fine," I reply emotionlessly, tears continuing to stream down my face, making me feel utterly useless.

"I won't let you down, Ava. Believe me, you matter to me more than anyone," he reassures me.

His words feel like salt sprinkled on fresh wounds. They lack sincerity. I can feel the absence of truth in them. His actions speak louder than his words.
