Keith

The knocking starts soft, a dull thud against the door. I stare at the ceiling, unblinking, my body heavy and unmoving. The air in the room feels thick, stale, like I’m breathing through water. I don’t have the energy to speak. I don’t even have the will to move.

The knocking comes again, louder this time.

“Keith,” a voice calls. Deep, steady. Familiar.

Jace.

I roll onto my side, facing the wall. My fingers curl into the sheets. I don’t answer. Maybe if I stay still, he’ll leave.

“Keith,” he says again, sharper now. “Open the door.”

Silence stretches between us. The knocking continues, a rhythm that drills into my skull. My hybrid stirs restlessly, but it doesn’t even have the strength to respond.

“I’m coming in,” Jace says.

The handle turns. The door creaks. I don’t even flinch.

Footsteps cross the room. Then the bed dips across from me, not close enough to touch, but close enough to feel his presence. For a long time, neither of us speaks. The only sound is my shallow breathin

XavierWe break through the tree line like a living storm. The clearing explodes into my vision—firelight, bodies, snarls, the sharp crack of bone against bone—and my heart slams into my ribs so hard it hurts. For half a second, all I can see is chaos. Wolves in every shade of gray and brown clash with Lycan forms that tower over them, the ground torn to mud beneath clawed feet. Then I see her.“Tirianna.”Relief hits first. Pure, blinding relief that she’s standing, that she’s alive. Then the rage comes. She’s on her knees, blood matting her hair, her face swollen and bruised beyond recognition, fighting like a cornered animal against three wolves circling her. She snaps and claws, teeth bared, refusing to go down even as one lunges for her throat. My wolf roars inside me, a sound of fury and terror.Mine.I don’t remember shifting. One heartbeat I’m running, the next I’m airborne, my Lycan tearing into the clearing with a snarl that splits the night.Around me, pandemonium reigns. H

Lady EliraThe clearing is a warzone, and I see it all.I stands near the center of it all, untouched, regal even in the chaos.I fight the curl of my lip remembering the incapacitated state Camille was in when I went into his chamber.Vile female. I should have kept a closer eye on her, then she wouldn't have had the opportunity to drug him.Men, my wolf bares a fang. Their weakness is always the same no matter how powerful they are.At least now we won't have to spend time trying to convince him to listen.Guards are flooding out of the place the alarm has started to sound. Light blare onto the vast expanse of the training grounds.Just head I can see the coverage of bodies. Hear the growls, the screams of rage and pain blending in a storm of ambition.Rhys tears into the males he stood beside, emotionlessly, like the deadly weapon I always knew he was.A weapon now being turned against us.Monster, my wolf growls inside me, hackles raised. I want to punish him when he is in chains.

  • Reborn Luna   158. We're not alone

HopeI don’t want to leave them. The thought claws at my chest as hard as the fear does, as hard as the burn in my lungs. Lina’s face is streaked with dirt and resolve, Rhys already shifting his stance into a fighter’s crouch, and Tirianna’s eyes glow faintly as her wolf hums just beneath her skin. They are all staying. For me.“You have to go,” Lina says, grabbing my shoulders. Her grip trembles, just a little. “Hope, listen to me. You have to get out of here.”“No,” I breathe. “We can—”“We can’t,” Rhys cuts in, sharp and final. The forest around us shudders with distant shouts and the unmistakable crack of branches under too many boots. Guards. Too many of them. “They’re fanning out. We slow them down, you run.”My wolf presses against my mind, a low, anxious presence. Pack doesn’t leave pack, she growls.I know, I whisper back, even as my heart breaks. But I have to. For him.I slide one hand to my stomach without thinking, my palm flattening protectively over the slight curve ben

  • Reborn Luna   157.The Heart

RhysI know the second Lina’s eyes meet mine that there’s no going back. Her shock is there—sharp, bright—but she buries it fast. Too fast. She steps wider, defensive, and Tirianna doesn’t hesitate. The female snatches up both packs and bolts down the tunnel, her footsteps uneven but determined.Good.Let her go, my wolf urges. Tell the female who we are. Tell her she is ours. His claim is so bold it halts my thoughts. The pull to her has always been there and so has my beast's interest but he has never been this plain about it.Now is not the time to think about mates, I scold him.It is time. We have given our life for this. She is ours, he states stubbornly.Somewhere inside me I can feel that troublesome idea taking root.Movement shifts over at my right.I watch Tirianna disappear into the dark and feel something old and brittle finally crack inside my chest. I always knew I couldn’t play this role forever.Camille’s loyal hound. Elira’s silent blade. A shadow stitched into her r

  • Reborn Luna   156.We won't fail

LinaI cinch the straps on the second backpack until the fabric creaks, then smooth my hands over the worn canvas like it might calm me. Food. Water. Bandages. A change of clothes. Enough to keep two women alive if luck stays on our side.Luck hasn’t been generous lately. My fingers slip beneath the inner seam of my dress, pressing against the small, solid weight hidden there. The Heart. It’s warm against my skin, like it knows what’s coming. We can't let them find it, my wolf murmurs.I know. That's why we’ll give it to Hope as soon as we see her. If anything we’ll stay behind so she can escape. My wolf huffs in agreement. When the time comes, give me control.I know I have to. I might have some stored rage in me but I'm not a trained fighter. Holding my own against one or two average opponents is okay but going hand to hand with trained guards is another matter entirely.I will, I assure her.“We won’t fail,” I whisper. No matter what happens tonight, I am not coming back here. Not

  • Reborn Luna   155.The fight

KeithThe clearing fills the way a lung fills with air—slow at first, then all at once. Tessa arrives with her wolves fanning out behind her, shoulders squared, eyes sharp. The Lycan chieftains follow, heavy steps and heavier presence, their warriors and enforcers moving with the kind of discipline that only comes from generations of surviving in the margins. Voices overlap. Names are exchanged. Hands clasp forearms. Old friends find each other and cling for a second longer than necessary before pulling apart. The goodbyes are quieter.A warrior kneels to a child’s height, pressing his forehead to hers. An enforcer kisses his mate’s knuckles and promises to return. The scent of fear and pride tangles in the air, sharp as pine sap. My hybrid paces beneath my skin, restless. They’re choosing us, he murmurs. They’re choosing the fight. They are choosing life. One without an untrustworthy ruler at the helm.I step forward when the noise reaches that perfect edge of chaos. I don’t need to
