3pm, the next day, Saturday. At city S.

Kate alighted the plane, the wind flew past her hair, she breathed in the air making her nostalgic. This was her birthplace, her home.

The sun was high in the sky making everywhere hot, it was the dry season. Kate wore a blue sleeveless top with a keyhole neckline pairing it with a white jean leggings and blue Adidas sneakers , she packed her hair neatly into a ponytail with her shades on.

Her portable hand bag casually hung on her shoulder while she dragged her suitcase. Kate looked around the airport, the airport had really changed compared to 4 years ago.

Kate looked for an exit, she turned to her front when someone suddenly bumped into her - a woman, making her stumble back a little as she heard a cracking sound.

"Hey can't you watch where you are going!", Kate heard the woman scream in annoyance catching other people's attention.

"That voice, she knew that voice all too well", Kate thought as she slowly looked up to see the person she bumped into, Rose. Kate had to stop herself from strangling the woman in front of her.

She must say Rose had really changed, one's life surely changes for the better when there is money. And she could see Rose was really enjoying her new life.

Rose stood arrogantly in front of Kate, her hands on her waist, wearing a white mini dress with an off shoulder sleeve pairing it with a 6" stiletto heels, her Louis Vuitton mini bag hung on her shoulder and her black bob styled neatly as she wore a bright red lipstick.

There were no more freckles at the side of her cheeks . Rose didn't look like a nerd anymore rather an arrogant and bratty heiress - when in reality she wasn't one.

"What money can turn a person into", Kate thought as she eyed Rose.

"Hey! Can't you talk, look at what you did", Rose complained as she gestured at her phone screen on the floor which had broken.

Kate wordlessly turned to look at the phone on the floor, so it was her phone that fell down. Kate removed her shades and stared at Rose directly in the eye as she watched Rose turn pale making her smile inwardly.

"Those eyes”, Rose thought in panic as a certain image of someone flashed in her head. "No it can't be, she died 4 years ago", she told herself in her head.

As she looked at the woman who she bumped into clearly releasing a sign of relief, "It wasn't her, they just had the same eye color", she tried to calm her raging heartbeat.

"Can't you watch where you are going", Rose screamed again trying to mask her uneasiness.

"She!" Kate thought it was clear that Rose was the one who wasn't watching where she was going, resulting in her phone falling on the ground.

"Why are you staring at me, won't you apologize", Rose demanded.

"Apologize", Kate repeated calmly, Rose looked at her dumbfounded. Now a large crowd had formed around them.

"It is clear you were the one who bumped into me so you are meant to apologize, but as luck would have it nothing happened to me but your phone had to pay the price for your carelessness ", Kate stated as she gestured at the broken phone.

Everyone watched silently wondering where it was leading to, even Rose stayed silent with a confused look on her face.

"You don't have to worry, I am a kind person, you want me to pay for your mistake, don't worry I will", Kate nodded calmly.

Rose felt embarrassed it was true, she was the one who bumped into the person, and intentionally kept the blame on the person. She didn't expect to find herself in a tongue-tied situation.

"You are rather cheap", Kate said out of the blue.

"What!" Rose exclaimed, confused, a tint of anger in her tone.

"You look like a rich person and with the way you shouted, I expected a more expensive phone and not that piece of trash", Kate remarked.

"Excuse me!", Rose shouted angrily , the people gasping in shock around them.

"Oh did I say anything wrong", Kate said, acting oblivious.

"How dare you", Rose said, raising her hand to slap Kate but her hand stopped midway when Kate gave her a deadly glare. Forcing her to put her hand down.

A pair of black eyes turned dark seeing as Rose was about to slap Kate, a man was watching silently from a corner. He was about to intervene but stopped when he saw Rose drop her hands.

"Don't you dare", Kate warned, making the hair at the back of Rose's neck stand in fright.

"What was wrong with her, why was she getting scared of a nobody", Rose thought, trying to put up a brave face.

"Look I don't have time for your lectures, just pay for the damage of my phone. Do you know how expensive it is to get a new iPhone screen? I don't think you have even touched one", Rose said arrogantly, her chin raised high, with a haughty expression on her face.

Kate just rolled her eyes and silently brought out her phone from her hand bag, casually showing it to Rose, "you were saying".

Rose gasped in shock, she suddenly became scared, "that's a ....", She stammered.

"A freaking iPhone 14 pro max, with a limited edition gold rose case", someone from the crowd said and everyone gasped in surprise ".

"That phone cost over $1000", another added.

"And she said she hasn't touched one", someone said referring to Rose, "she is literally living the iPhone world", now referring to Kate and every other person nodded in agreement.

The man who was watching from the corner smiled in satisfaction, nobody saw that coming. He was truly pleased.

Kate raised her eyebrow and a sweet smile plastered on her face, "So how should I pay for the money transfer or check".

Rose was tongue tied, as she turned red from embarrassment, she wasn't expecting this sudden change of event at all.

Kate loved the expression on Rose's face, she tried so hard to stop herself from laughing.

"Since you haven't decided I'll pay by check then", Kate concluded leaving a still dumbfounded Rose. She brought out a checkbook from her hand bag.

"Here you go", Kate said, handing Rose the check who took it hesitantly.

Rose eyes opened wide in shock, the crowd was curious to know what made Rose look so pale.

"That's a check of $1000 '', Kate said, answering the crowd unspoken question , making them gasp as the man at the crowd chuckled silently only he knew why he found it amusing.

"Am sure it's gonna be more than enough to fix your phone but if I were you I'll just get a new one, that phone did look like trash anyway ", Kate commented.

Rose looked at her broken iPhone 12 on the floor, still embarrassed from what was going on.

"Anyway, I have got to go, unlike you who likes wasting time blaming other people, have got other things to do with mine", Kate said and cat-walked her way out feeling proud, her chin raised high as she wore back her shades and left the airport.

Rose was still dumbfounded on the spot as she stared at the check in her hand, the crowd started to disperse.

"Did you see what that woman did?", a lady said in admiration.

"Yh!, It was epic", another said with the same enthusiasm.

"She put the adopted daughter of the Andino family in her place", another added.

"She deserved it, she was too arrogant thinking she could tramper on anyone cause she's now an Andino", the person hissed.

"But that woman showed her, her place", the first lady who spoke added, making her two friends nod in agreement.

"She's now my new idol", she added in admiration.

"You don't even know her ", her friends remarked.

"I don't care, I'll find her", she said determinedly.

"C'mon let's go", her two friends nudged her and they left.

Rose stared at the check in anger, never had she felt so humiliated. She crushed it about to toss it away then stopped. Why should she throw it away rather than use it?

She straightened out the cheque and kept it in her hand bag as she stared at her broken phone on the floor.

"She didn't need it anymore", she thought as she stepped on it crushing it with her heels then cat-walked away not before picking up the sim card.

Just at the exit unknown to her, Old Man Andino stood there with his secretary as he shook his head in disappointment after watching his supposed granddaughter humiliate herself.

"Should we tell her", Frank, Old Man Andino secretary suggested.

"No need", Gabriel, Old Man Andino said. "Where is my ride?".

"Right this way sir", Frank said and led Old Man Andino out of the airport.

"There was no way he was going to let that Rose become the heiress", Gabriel thought sternly, "rather... The woman who Rose was arguing with was quite interesting. He really wanted to know more about her".

Meanwhile, Rose walked round the airport looking for the Old Man, mumbling curses at the woman who humiliated her.

Bumped into someone completely forgetting what happened some minutes ago, Rose was about to lash out on the person but stopped when she saw the handsome god in front of her.

His black curly hair was styled into a low fade, he had black eyes with long lashes, pointed nose, pink lips and a defined jawline. He was handsome no doubt about that and Rose was smitten by him.

With the way he dressed Rose could tell he was rich, the cherry on top of the cake.

He had a cold demeanor around him making him unapproachable. He was the man who was watching at the corner.

"Am sorry", Rose apologized in a sweet voice looking at him shyly, completely different from her arrogant nature.

"She could apologize", the man thought as he snickered in his head.

Seeing as the man wasn't interested in talking to her she decided to introduce herself." I'm Rose Andino", she said proudly.

"Figures", he thought with a hiss. She was the adopted daughter of Nathaniel and Tiffany, who might probably become the heiress of the family.

He stared at her in disgust, "just because she was rich doesn't mean she could treat people anyhow", and that was what he hates.

He stared at her one last time before walking away, she might be rich but one thing was such she didn't have class. He didn't have time to waste on such people.

Rose felt humiliated yet again, never had she been walked out on, first that woman and now that man, today was not her day.

Rose continued to look for the Old Man, after searching for another 20 mins, she decided to go home not before going to the store to get a new phone. She got into the car, switching on the phone not long after it turned on, it rang.

"Rose, where are you?", Tiffany asked, "we've been trying to reach you...".

"I had to get a new phone..", Rose interrupted

"Why?",

"I had a little accident with my old phone", Rose confessed.

"Anyway come back home now, and don't worry grandpa is already here", Tiffany said worried.

"Not like she cared about the Old Man", Rose thought. "Ohk mum am on my way", she said as the call disconnected and drove home

*At the Andino mansion

"What is it?", Rose asked once she got home and was greeted by Nathaniel death glare.

"Care to explain to this young lady", he said, shoving his phone screen in her face.

“Edward please tell whoever it is I don't want to see them”, Charles groaned tiredly. He hadn't slept well in the past few days. Pouring himself a glass of beer, taking the entire content in a gulp. He needed alcohol to deal with Taylor, when he got to the office. “It's me”. Charles turned rigid at the voice. “No it couldn't be. Taylor here at his house, he must be hallucinating”. Shaking his head, “maybe he needed to stop taking alcohol instead, it was starting to mess with his head too, just like her”. As he dropped the tumbler, making his way to the staircase, when he felt someone hug him from behind, making him freeze in his steps. The smell of milk jasmine body wash wafted into his nose. “F*CK! He wasn't hallucinating. She was here, Taylor was really here, hugging him”. He felt something wet on his back. “Was she crying? Did someone hurt her?” His eyes darkening at the thought. “I'm never leaving you again”, he heard her sob, stopping his beast from going bers

“What about carrots?”. “Hurgh?” Kate stared at her confused. “The cake “, Tiffany answered, pointing to the carrot cake in front of them. “Nah I don't like carrot cake”, she answered, shaking her head, a disgusted look on her face. “Isn't the cake for someone else?” Tiffany asked, an amused look on her face. “Yes it is, but I'm the one paying for it”, Kate shrugged in response. “Oh I see, why not pick your favourite then, since you're the one paying for it”, Tiffany suggested. Kate creased her forehead in thought. “It had crossed her mind but what if Charles didn't like her choice? Well it was better than buying a random cake. If Charles won't eat, she will”. “One velvet cake please”, she said to the bakery clerk's. The Bakery clerk's nodded, taking out the cake. “Would you like to write anything on it?” She asked. Kate speculated for a while before answering, “I’m sorry ice king”. "Ice King!", The Bakery clerk's mouth hung open, stunned, before snapping shut a

“Charles was going to go against his grandpa for her”. Was he mad? Seemed like it. "And I know you like him too”, Ryn muttered, placing his hand over hers, squeezing it in a supportive manner. “I do!?” Kate uttered, her question coming out as a statement, a blush appearing on her cheek unbeknownst to her, as she stared at their hands. She could feel the fast beating of her heart. “Charles liked her. She liked Charles”. Ryn squeezed her hand one last time, before placing his hand back at his side. “Charles could act tough all he wanted, but he's hurting. He needs you dear, only you can make him feel better”, he said. “How did the Old Man know for sure she could make him feel better, all she had done to Charles was hurt him”, she thought sadly, feeling ashamed. “I'm not meant to tell you this but you aren't the first person Charles had fallen in love with, and she loved him back. We were already planning their wedding, even though they were still in highschool then”. Kate

A NEW DAY. Kate drove her car into the parking lot of Donovan Car Enterprise. Glancing at Charles' spot, no sign of his black Mercedes. Another day and Charles hadn't arrived. Checking the time on her wristwatch, 7:45. "There was still time", she sighed. “He could just be running late”, she told herself. Letting out a frustrated groan, “Why did she even care!?”. Kate walked to the entrance, about entering the building, when an old man walked up to her. “Miss Cosgrove”, the elderly man said. “Yes”, Kate nodded, raising her eyebrows in a polite manner. “How may I help you?”. “Ryn…Old Man Donovan would like to see you”. “See me”, Kate asked, an unconvinced look on her face. “Why would Charles' grandpa want to see her?”. “Where is he?”. “There”, the man pointed to a black SUV not far from them. Kate gave him a weary look. “She didn't trust him”. “He wants to speak to you, it's important”, he added, a stern expression on his face, not bothering to convince her.

“How did he become friends with these two idiots?” Charles wondered, as he watched his two best friends talk about the recent happenings in his life, in his presence!. Alexander did the talking while Vincent listened with rapt attention. “Are you guys done?” Charles asked, his forehead creased in annoyance. They both turned to stare at him, a teasing grin forming on their faces. “I always knew we were going to end up becoming family, but I didn't think you'd have to marry Rose”, Vincent said, displeasure laced in his tone. “Katie’s best friend... It was meant to be her”, he murmured, not saying the last part out loud. “But you love Taylor don't you, why not marry her instead”, he said. “I know we won't be family anymore but I'll always support your choice”, he added, giving Charles a supportive nod. Charles shook his head at Vincy's words. “Too bad he won't be able to do that anymore”, Alexander spoke with a sigh. “Why not?” Vincent asked, confused. “Charles is

Charles glanced at his wristwatch, his back to his car, tapping his foot impatiently on the concrete ground, with his arms crossed. “His flight had landed 15 mins ago, why wasn't he here yet”, he grumbled, staring at the exit door. Glancing at his watch again, it was 1:00 pm now. He had thought about going to the office today but it seemed like he wouldn't make it again. “Sigh!”. He hadn't been able to go to the office because he was preparing for the task his grandfather had given him – he needed to be ready to face them. Replaying his conversation with his grandpa. “You can stop pursuing Miss Cosgrove. I hear she's dating someone now”. And that was how his grandpa decided to start their conversation. “Son of the Bruce family, Kyle. I think he's a nice guy”, he added. Charles worked his jaw, just when he had forgotten about it – not like he did – his grandpa just had to remind him. “Grandpa, you didn't call me here to tell me this, did you?” He asked, an annoy

“Was there a reason why you jumped on me when you walked in, Miss Cosgrove?” Charles asked, trying to sound indifferent. Kate was focused on her entwined fingers; she didn't notice the hopeful look in his eyes. “It's nothing I was just glad you were__ I meant your hand was alright”, Kate stammered, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “Oh I see”, Charles frowned disappointedly, quickly replacing it with a stoic expression. “I'll be on my way then Miss Cosgrove”, he added, walking past her to the door. “Wait!” Kate exclaimed, stopping him in his tracks. “Where are you going, you just got here?” she asked, surprised. “He was leaving already or was he just ignoring her”. She frowned at the thought. “I have a multimillionaire business to take care of. I can't sit in my office all the time”, Charles answered with a cocky grin. “Is there a reason you don't want me to go?”. “No, it's just__”, Kate shuttered, suddenly feeling nervous. “What did Gracie say, sort out your feelings,

THE NEXT DAY. Kate rolled her eyes at the person on the other end of the phone. Just when she thought yesterday's gossip had ended. Andrew just had to call her to talk about it, on her way to work!. “What are you up to now Kate?” Andrew groaned, questioning, clearly displeased about the post. “Getting back with your ex, really!?”. “Technically Taylor is the one dating Kyle not Kate”, Kate corrected, stopping her car at a red light. She had connected her earbuds to her phone. After her accident she was weary of connecting her phone to her car, and was cautious of the information she stored too, to prevent a virus getting into it. Prevention was better than cure afterall. “I know Kate, still!” Andrew argued. Kate tapped her finger on the steering wheel, waiting for the light to turn green. “I'm just getting my revenge on Kyle, Andrew, nothing to worry about”. The light turned green, she continued driving. “By dating him Kate, is that really necessary”, he tsked. “If
