Chapter 2

Janice's suggestion drew the attention of everyone in the hall.

Nicholas was about to say something when I smiled and said, "There's no need for that. I forfeit!"

Chaos erupted in the hall.

Nicholas was stunned. He knew that I took my career extremely seriously, so he assumed that I wouldn't let Janice's challenge slide.

"I forfeit," I repeated.

What Nicholas didn't know was that I had confidently accepted Janice's challenge in my past life.

However, every time I tried to answer the host's questions, she would beat me to it. In the end, she emerged as the indisputable victor and made me, the translator with a decade's worth of experience, into a laughingstock.

Naturally, I wouldn't accept her challenge again.

Janice tried to provoke me, saying, "You're the ace translator of our company, Giselle. Don't tell me that you're too scared to compete with a little receptionist like me? That would be so embarrassing for you if this gets out!

"Or perhaps you could test me to see which level I'm currently at? I want to know if I'm on the same level as you."

"Your level is much higher than mine," I said lightly. "I think you're at least level 13."

Janice puffed her chest out proudly and exclaimed, "Of course! My standards—"

The other employees couldn't hold back anymore and burst into laughter.

"Which language could have 13 levels?"

"You!" Janice hissed, her face turning a ruddy red as she stomped her feet.

"That's enough," Nicholas bellowed while glaring at me in dissatisfaction. "You should know your limits even when you're joking around. Do you really think that you're all that just because you have a few certificates? How dare you bully Janice when she's unfamiliar with these things! How shameless!"

I dug my nails into my palms.

The sounds of laughter immediately died out.

The host fixed a smile on his face and asked, "Why don't we crown two champions for this month?"

"Two champions?" Nicholas snapped. "Giselle's been learning how to translate for years while Janice only started teaching herself this month. The champion should be obvious."

The host had no choice but to announce Janice as the champion for this month's assessment upon hearing Nicholas' words.

Everyone stepped forward to congratulate her.

Janice let out a triumphant whoop before hugging Nicholas.

Nicholas coughed lightly as he looked at me before stiffly taking a step back.

I inwardly scoffed.

Janice blinked provokingly at me as she leaned against Nicholas' chest. "I've proved myself, Giselle. May I join you for this afternoon's business meeting?"

I subconsciously frowned before asking, "Why—"

"I know that you look down on my academic background, Giselle," Janice interjected, her eyes reddening. "But I'm only working myself to the bone to study translation because I want to ease Nick's burdens and help the company. Are you going to deny my right to do that?"

Nicholas hugged her, his expression filled with heartbreak.

"Janice is only doing this for the sake of the company!" he snapped. "Is it truly so impossible for you to tolerate her?"

My colleagues also looked at me and chimed in with their own opinions.

"I didn't know that you were such a selfish person, Giselle. Janice's natural talent won't really affect you."

"He's right. Why won't you give someone new a chance? You're so petty."

Everyone began to criticize me.

"As I was saying earlier," I said calmly, "Why don't you come along for the meeting? You can treat it as a learning experience."

Everyone awkwardly tried to change the subject upon hearing my words.

Janice shot a knowing look at me, saying, "Don't worry, Giselle. I'll definitely work hard!"
