Although I'm the ace translator of my company, I let the receptionist, Janice Cartman, take charge of a translation project that's worth over 100 million dollars of my own volition. In my past life, Janice is the childhood friend of my boyfriend, Nicholas Sanders, who has dropped out of middle school. Yet, she suddenly masters eight languages overnight. Not only that, but she claims that she simply taught herself the languages. I need to research the technical terms beforehand every time I take on a translation project, but Janice is able to easily translate anything that she hears on the spot with 100% accuracy. Everyone praises Janice for being a translation genius while calling me a worthless loser in private. Janice stops me when I'm about to go on stage to fulfill my duties as the translator for the 100-million-dollar project. I've spent the last two weeks preparing for it, sacrificing sleep to ensure that I'm completely ready. "This isn't the time for you to show off, Giselle. This project will determine whether the company will become publicly listed. Your foundation isn't as good as mine, so I'll take your place!" Nicholas and my other colleagues fully support Janice's suggestion. I do everything I can to change their minds, but in the end, I'm still forcefully replaced. Janice's translations are flawless. She's lauded as the hero of the company. Meanwhile, I'm demoted to a cleaning lady under the pretext that my skills are lacking. I don't understand. I've spent the last decade working myself to the bone to hone my skills, yet I still lose to Janice, who becomes a translation genius overnight. In a daze, I accidentally lose my footing and drown to death. Seconds before I breathe my last breath, I find out that Janice's translations are a hoax. She simply repeats the words that she hears in my heart. When I open my eyes again, I realize that I've been transported back to the day when Janice claims that she's a translation genius who knows eight languages. This time, I don't stay up all night to prepare my translation materials. Instead, I start memorizing a funeral speech!

Chapter 1

"Congratulations, Giselle! As expected, you got first place for this month's assessment again!"

"That's right! You've gotten first place for three months in a row now!"

My colleagues surrounded me, applauding me and showering me with praise.

I was a little stunned as a crowd gathered around me.

The host cleared his throat and announced, "The person who scored first place in the company's assessment this month is, once again, Giselle—"

"Wait!" Janice Cartman exclaimed as she walked out from the crowd. "I signed up for this month's assessment. I want to give it a shot too."

A chill ran down my spine as I watched the scene unfold exactly as it had in my past life.

My colleagues' eyes were full of doubt as they looked at Janice.

"This isn't a game. You don't even have any translation skills. The entry barrier for this industry is quite high!"

Janice pursed her lips and said, "The assessment doesn't look that difficult to me. And who said that I don't have any translation skills? I taught myself eight different languages in just this month alone!"

My colleagues scoffed.

"You taught yourself? Even a translation ace like Giselle had to hone her skills for a decade. How can you possibly teach yourself when you don't even know the basics?"

"Stop making a fool out of yourself! I'll get on my knees and kiss your feet if you can translate a single sentence!"

They began mocking Janice for being delusional. None of them took her seriously.

Only I knew that she would actually succeed in translating eight different languages during the assessment in my past life.

Janice turned around and grabbed my boyfriend, Nicholas Sanders' arm.

"Let me give it a try, Nick," she said coyly. "I already signed up for it. I'll lodge a complaint against you if you don't let me participate!"

Surprisingly, Nicholas didn't reject her request even though he had always placed great importance on academic qualifications. He shot an adoring look at her and said, "Alright then. Go ahead and give it a shot."

With Nicholas' permission, the host began to test Janice.

In a completely unexpected turn of events, Janice was able to swiftly and accurately translate the sentences regardless of whether she needed to translate them into Enarish or Foltench.

The mocking glint in everyone's eyes morphed to shock.

Janice spoke in fluent Dormich the moment the host read out the last sentence that she had to translate.

"It directly targets the ligand-binding domain due to the effects of the androgen receptor inhibitors. Thus, it can directly treat patients with metastatic prostate cancer."

Thunderous applause filled the room.

"You've been holding out on us, Janice! Your skills would put you almost on par with Giselle!"

"Even a translation ace like Giselle needs to take notes for her live translations. How are you able to translate the sentences so fluently when you have no prior experience?" someone asked curiously.

"Isn't translation just directly saying what you hear?" Janice asked, her eyes wide and shining with surprise. "Perhaps Giselle is getting on in years, so her memory isn't as good compared to someone younger. It totally makes sense that she has to take notes."

She stuck her tongue out at me before continuing, "Was I too blunt, Giselle? I'm not trying to imply anything else. Don't take it to heart, alright?"

I just smiled.

When Janice was reading out her translation, I had intentionally snuck a discreet mistake into my own translation, which I was silently doing in my heart.

Surprisingly, she had read the mistake aloud.

As I suspected, Janice hadn't suddenly mastered eight different languages overnight. Recalling how her eyes had become unfocused when she was reciting my translation out loud, if my guess was correct, she couldn't actually control what she was saying and could only repeat whatever I was thinking in my heart.

If that were the case, I would have to prepare a grand present for her.

The host looked a little troubled as he said, "Giselle and Janice got the same score. So, first place for this month's assessment should go to…"

Nicholas frowned.

The corners of Janice's lips curled up into a confident smile. "Since we have the same score… Do you have the confidence to go up against me, Giselle?"
