MIAS POVI didn’t move. Not even when the air between us changed. Not even when the warmth of Ethan's presence, so close, disappeared. It took me a moment to realize why.He had stepped back. Deliberately, As if nothing had almost happened. As if I hadn’t felt his breath against my lips just moments ago. My heart was still racing in my chest, betraying everything I wanted to hide. My fingers curled slightly at my sides. Of course, he would be the one to pull away. Ethan Black didn’t lose control. Not even for a second.By the time I looked up, his expression had already turned cold, composed, unreadable. The man who had stood inches from me just seconds ago was gone. He was replaced by someone who saw me as nothing but an investment. “You're distracted.” His voice was calm, flat. As if nothing had happened, My chest tightened.“I’m not,” I replied, maybe a bit too quickly. His gaze sharpened slightly, as if he could see right through my lie. Maybe he could. Maybe he always could

MIA’S POVI didn’t reply. My fingers hovered over the screen, but I couldn't find the words. Ethan’s last message burned in my mind like a brand. How exactly did you die?The room felt smaller. Too quiet. Too suffocating. I locked my phone and laid it face down on the bed, as if that would silence the question echoing in my head. But it didn’t. It only got louder.I lay back slowly, staring at the ceiling, as parts of that night forced their way to the front of my mind. The laughter. The clinking of glasses.Lily’s soft smile. Not when everything was already slipping out of my control.Ethan was asking questions he shouldn’t be asking. Questions no one should think to ask.Unless— My eyes snapped open.Unless he already suspected something.A slow, cold realization settled in.Ethan wasn’t just helping me. He was watching me.Studying me.Testing me.Every word I said. Ev
