Livia’s POV

The noise of the courtyard faded as Asher led me down the winding trail behind the temple ruins, away from the clinking iron chains, Torin’s sharp commands, and the pale, defeated glare of Grand Oracle Vane.

He didn't stop until we reached a sheltered ledge overlooking the mist-filled valley. The wind was cold, but Asher’s coat was wrapped tightly around my shoulders, heavy with his scent of pine and rain.

Livia’s POVThe noise of the courtyard faded as Asher led me down the winding trail behind the temple ruins, away from the clinking iron chains, Torin’s sharp commands, and the pale, defeated glare of Grand Oracle Vane.He didn't stop until we reached a sheltered ledge overlooking the mist-filled valley. The wind was cold, but Asher’s coat was wrapped tightly around my shoulders, heavy with his scent of pine and rain."Sit," he said softly.I sank onto a fallen stone column, my legs still trembling from the violent aftershocks of the curse breaking. Asher dropped to one knee in front of me, taking both of my cold hands in his broad, calloused palms. He didn't speak. He just held my hands against his chest, letting his pulse steady mine."The square," I whispered, the words finally coming out without the searing pain behind them. "I thought you were standing on the platform watching me die. But you weren't on the platform."Asher looked up, his golden eyes raw and exposed under the moo

Ch. 53Livia’s POVThe violet light burned through my eyelids, cold and sickening. It wasn't just pain. It was an anchor ripping backward through fifteen years of my life. White-hot agony sliced across my temples, pulling up images faster than my mind could process them.A cold stone cellar... Vane’s ring scratching against my collarbone... Asher cried out as iron chains rattled in the dark..."Livia!" Asher’s voice cracked over the roar of the dark magic. He didn't hesitate. The moment the violet fire flared, he lunged across the broken stone, shielding me with his body. The dark wire snapped against his heavy leather coat, sparks spitting violently as the wards tried to bite into his skin."Stay down!" he snarled, his wolf breaking through his posture – his jaw tightening, his golden eyes glowing with raw, lethal fury.Vane stumbled back toward the altar, raising the curved ritual blade, his hands caked in dark, corrupted blood. "You cannot break a temple oath, Blackwood! Her mind b

  • Reborn as Betrayed Luna    52. Curse Awakened

Ch. 52Livia’s POVThe pine needles underfoot deadened our steps, but every branch scraping across my cloak sounded like a blade sliding from a sheath. We moved in a single line through the floor of the ravine. Above us, the high ridge blocked the moonlight, throwing the trench into thick, suffocating darkness. Ahead, Beta Torin moved like a shadow, his hand constantly resting on the pommel of his sword. Behind us, six High Council paladins followed in total silence, their silver armor dulled with mud and charcoal to kill the sheen.Asher stayed half a step ahead of me, his body angled slightly outward to shield my right side. His wolf was close to the surface. I could feel the heat radiating off his skin, the low, silent hum of his aura vibrating against my pulse point."Half a mile," Torin whispered, dropping back beside us. He gestured toward the jagged silhouette of two broken stone pillars rising above the tree line. "Vane’s acolytes have set up ward flares along the main stone

Ch. 51Livia’s POVThe stone floor beneath my feet felt ice-cold, but Asher’s hand around mine was pure heat."The Moonfall ruins," Torin muttered from the hallway, his fingers tightening on the hilt of his short sword. "That’s three miles north through the pine ridge. If Vane is backed into a corner there, he’s got an old altar warding to hide behind."Serena slumped against the wooden doorframe, her face gray in the torchlight. The fight had drained right out of her. "He took two of his blood-bound acolytes with him. The dark ash siphons he used in the cistern... he has more of them. He’s going to drain the remaining ward energy at the ruins to force the memory seal open."She looked at me, her eyes bloodshot and raw. "If the seal rips open all at once, your mind won't survive the shift, Livia. The curse will trigger before you can even speak.""Torin," Asher barked, his voice dropping into that quiet, absolute tone that made the guards instantly straighten up. "Get six paladins fro

Livia’s POVThe Pack’s Great Hall had finally silenced down as midnight approached. Most of the guards were asleep on the lower benches near the dying hearth embers. Up in my bedroom, the cool night air blew through the half-open window, carrying the quiet, clean scent of wet pine from the courtyard below.I sat at my small wooden desk, the single oil lamp casting long, amber shadows across the stone wall. In front of me lay the thin, worn leather notebook I had kept since my childhood days.I flipped through the yellowed pages. The handwriting on the early pages was crude and messily drawn in dark ink, childish sketches of a black wolf with golden eyes standing near an old stone archway surrounded by blue mountain flowers. Beside the drawing were the lyrics of the lullaby my mother had sung to me before she died. When the white moon falls,And the golden wolf calls,The bloodline wakes,And the true bond breaks the dark.I stared at my own handwriting. A cold, strange dizziness washe

  • Reborn as Betrayed Luna    49. Not Leaving

Livia’s POVThe Great Hall of the Hartwell pack had not seen this much life in months.Log fires roared in both massive stone hearths, casting a rich, gold-and-amber glow across the heavy oak tables. The iron chandeliers, usually kept dim to conserve oil, were ablaze with tapers. The warriors and Alpha Magnus’s forward scouts sat side-by-side along the long benches, passing wooden tankards of hot spiced ale and breaking thick hearth-bread.For the first time since my mother’s passing, the dark shadow hanging over this house had completely lifted. At the head table, my father sat next to Alpha Magnus. Though Father’s face was still pale and drawn from the lingering effects of the poisoned tea, his eyes were bright. He was listening to Alpha Magnus recount a story from their younger days, laughing—a real, deep laugh that made my throat tighten with emotion.I sat at the corner table near the hearth, watching them, a wooden mug of chamomile and honey resting between my hands."You're q
