The car moved silently through the city streets, its windows tinted, its interior dimly lit. Ava sat upright in the back seat, hands folded neatly in her lap, her wedding gown pooled around her like a discarded illusion. Outside, neon lights slid past in blurred streaks, but she barely noticed them. Her mind was sharp, alert, cataloging every sensation, every possibility.

Across from her sat Lucas Kane.

He had removed his suit jacket, the sleeves of his crisp white shirt rolled slightly to his forearms. The faint glow from the dashboard lights cast shadows across his sharp features, making his already intimidating presence feel even heavier.

Neither spoke.

Silence was not awkward between them.

It was calculated.

Lucas was assessing her.

Ava knew it.

He was measuring her composure, her nerves, her sincerity.

If she cracked now, everything would collapse.

The car stopped in front of a massive black iron gate.

It opened automatically.

Beyond it stood an enormous estate, hidden behind tall hedges and heavy security. Modern architecture blended with quiet luxury. The kind of place built not for warmth, but for absolute control.

Ava felt no awe.

Only resolve.

The car pulled into an underground garage.

Lucas stepped out first.

Ava followed.

The moment her feet touched the ground, the reality settled in.

She had truly left her wedding.

She had truly severed her old life.

There was no retreat.

Lucas led her inside.

The mansion was quiet, spotless, and cold.

Floor-to-ceiling windows.

Minimalist furniture.

Neutral colors.

Everything reflected Lucas Kane’s personality—precise, restrained, and ruthless.

A man in a dark suit approached.

“Mr. Kane, the lawyer has arrived.”

Lucas nodded.

“Bring him to the study.”

They entered a large office lined with shelves of neatly arranged legal volumes. A long black desk stood at the center. A middle-aged man with silver-rimmed glasses was already waiting, briefcase in hand.

Lucas gestured toward a chair.

“Sit.”

Ava sat.

The lawyer opened his briefcase and removed several documents.

Lucas did not look at Ava.

“We’ll review the contract clause by clause.”

The lawyer pushed the papers forward.

Ava picked them up.

The first page read:

Marriage Agreement

Parties: Lucas Kane and Ava Reed

Duration: One year

Purpose: Mutual benefit marriage for legal and strategic reasons

Ava scanned quickly.

The terms were straightforward.

Residence: Ava will live at Kane Estate.

Public Behavior: Both parties will present themselves as a married couple when necessary.

Privacy Clause: No interference in each other’s personal affairs.

Confidentiality: Absolute secrecy regarding contract nature.

Termination: Divorce after one year with financial settlement.

Penalty Clause: Breach results in severe compensation and legal consequences.

Ava looked up.

“The compensation amount?”

Lucas glanced at the lawyer.

The lawyer slid another page forward.

Ava’s gaze dropped.

The number made most people dizzy.

Enough to secure her future.

Enough to rebuild Reed Holdings from ashes.

Enough to protect herself even after divorce.

Lucas watched her carefully.

“Acceptable?”

“Yes.”

Lucas leaned back slightly.

“My additional terms,” he said.

Ava lifted her eyes.

“You will not engage in romantic relationships publicly or privately during the contract.”

Ava nodded.

“That was implied.”

“You will attend major Kane Group events as my wife.”

“Understood.”

“You will not hide information that may endanger me.”

Ava met his gaze.

“I expect the same.”

Lucas’s lips curved faintly.

“Fair.”

Ava closed the folder.

“My terms.”

Lucas nodded.

“You will provide legal and physical protection.”

“Yes.”

“You will allow me access to certain Kane Group intelligence channels.”

Lucas’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“For what purpose?”

“To anticipate attacks from Mark Collins and Lily Reed.”

Lucas considered.

“Limited access,” he said.

“Agreed.”

Silence fell.

The lawyer cleared his throat.

“Shall we proceed to signatures?”

Lucas took the pen.

He signed first.

His handwriting was sharp and decisive.

He slid the pen to Ava.

Ava stared at the blank line.

In her past life, she had signed countless documents trusting Mark blindly.

Those signatures had destroyed her.

This time, she read every word.

Then she signed.

The pen felt heavier than it should have.

But when she placed it down, something inside her settled.

The lawyer collected the documents.

“Congratulations,” he said cautiously. “You are legally married.”

Ava did not smile.

Neither did Lucas.

Lucas stood.

“Follow me.”

He led her upstairs.

They stopped outside a large bedroom.

“This is yours.”

Ava glanced inside.

Spacious.

Minimal.

Cold.

Not a honeymoon suite.

Not a marital bedroom.

A personal territory.

“Mine?” she asked.

“You’ll have a separate room from me,” Lucas said. “Less complications.”

Ava nodded.

“That’s preferable.”

Lucas studied her.

“You adapt quickly.”

“I don’t have the luxury of adapting slowly.”

Lucas paused.

“Your ex-fiancé will start looking for you within an hour.”

Ava’s lips curved faintly.

“Good.”

Lucas’s gaze sharpened.

“You seem confident.”

Ava lifted her eyes.

“In my past life, he always moved first.”

“This time…”

She finished calmly.

“I will.”

Lucas held her gaze for a long moment.

Then he said, “Rest tonight. Tomorrow we start.”

Ava nodded.

As Lucas turned to leave, she spoke.

“Mr. Kane.”

He stopped.

“Thank you.”

Lucas glanced back.

“This isn’t charity.”

“I know,” Ava replied.

“It’s war.”

Lucas’s lips curved slightly.

“Yes.”

The door closed.

Ava stood alone in the room.

She walked slowly to the window and looked out at the dark city.

Somewhere out there, Mark Collins was probably still smiling.

Still celebrating.

Still believing he had married a submissive, obedient woman.

Ava’s fingers tightened.

Enjoy your happiness.

Because it ends tonight.

She removed the wedding ring and placed it on the table.

Then she lay down fully clothed.

For the first time since her rebirth, she allowed herself to close her eyes.

Tomorrow…

The game begins.

The night was quiet at Kane Estate, the kind of stillness that carried both reflection and possibility. Ava stood on the balcony, looking down at the city’s endless web of lights. Each flicker reminded her of the lives intertwined with Reed Holdings—the employees, the shareholders, the families unknowingly affected by power, greed, and ambition. Her mind, however, was no longer caught in the chaos of revenge or fear of betrayal. Those days were over. Now, clarity ruled every thought. She had reclaimed her life, her power, and her dignity. Mark Collins and Lily Reed were contained, their schemes dismantled, and the company’s operations secured under her careful, unassailable guidance. Yet despite the victory, a subtle emptiness lingered, one she had not anticipated. Triumph in the material sense had been hers for days, but the personal—emotional, human connection—was still a terrain she had yet to navigate.Lucas Kane stepped onto the balcony, his

The city woke to headlines that would never be forgotten: “Reed Holdings in Shock: Majority Shareholder Ava Reed Takes Control,” “Mark Collins and Lily Reed Suspended Amid Fraud Investigation,” “Corporate Scandal Unfolds: Shareholders Demand Answers.” News channels dissected every possible angle. Analysts speculated on the downfall of one of the most influential executives in the financial sector, while social media exploded with discussions, memes, and conspiracy theories. Ava Reed watched from her office atop the skyscraper that once symbolized her defeat. She did not celebrate. She did not revel. Instead, she observed quietly, sipping her tea, scanning the messages, the news alerts, the emails of congratulation, fear, and inquiry flooding her inbox. Every reaction confirmed one undeniable fact: the world had finally been forced to recognize her, not as the victim, but as the architect of justice and power.Investors called immediately. S

Reed Holdings’ headquarters had not changed, yet everything felt different. The same towering glass building pierced the skyline, the same marble floors reflected polished shoes, the same employees moved through the halls with tablets and files in hand—but the invisible hierarchy had shifted. Power had changed hands. And everyone knew it. Ava Reed walked through the main entrance with calm, unhurried steps, flanked by two legal advisors and Lucas Kane. Conversations died the moment she passed. Heads lowered. Eyes followed her with a mixture of awe, fear, and curiosity. Only days ago, she had been whispered about as a disgraced woman who survived on charity. Now, she was the majority shareholder of Reed Holdings.Inside the executive boardroom, the remaining directors were already seated. Some wore forced smiles. Others couldn’t hide their unease. The empty chairs where Mark Collins and Lily Reed once sat were glaring reminders of how fragile power truly was.

The detention center smelled of disinfectant and despair. The kind of place where hope quietly went to die. Ava walked through the sterile corridor with steady steps, her heels clicking softly against the tiled floor. A guard escorted her to a private visitation room separated by thick glass and a metal table bolted to the floor. On the other side of the glass sat Mark Collins. Gone was the polished executive, the confident manipulator, the man who once believed the world bent at his will. His hair was unkempt, his eyes bloodshot, his suit replaced by a dull gray detention uniform. He looked smaller. Older. Broken. When he saw Ava, his body stiffened. For a long moment, neither of them spoke. Then Mark laughed hoarsely. “So… you came to see me.” His voice carried bitterness, disbelief, and something close to desperation. “To enjoy the view?”Ava sat down calmly. “No. I came to close something.”Mark grippe

  • Reborn as the CEO’s Contract Wife   Chapter Fourteen – Checkmate

The boardroom of Reed Holdings had never felt heavier. The massive glass table reflected the tense faces of executives, shareholders, and legal advisors seated around it. No one spoke loudly. Even breathing felt intrusive. At the head of the table, Mark Collins sat stiffly, his hands folded together, his knuckles white. Lily sat beside him, her makeup flawless, but unable to hide the fear in her eyes. Across from them sat representatives from compliance, internal audit, and two external law firms. The atmosphere was no longer corporate. It was judicial. The chairman cleared his throat. “This emergency meeting was convened due to a formal submission received early this morning.” He glanced at his tablet. “The submission contains extensive documentation of illegal financial activities, unauthorized offshore transfers, falsified reports, and internal manipulation of company audits.” His eyes lifted slowly. “The evidence directly implicates Vice Pres

  • Reborn as the CEO’s Contract Wife   Chapter Thirteen – Collapse

Mark Collins paced his penthouse like a man possessed. The city skyline gleamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, a cold reminder that wealth and power offered no protection against exposure. His hands trembled, his mind raced, and every shadow in the room seemed to mock him. He couldn’t believe how quickly the world he had built was crumbling. One wrong move. One underestimated opponent. One woman.Lily Reed sat on the couch, pale and trembling. Her laptop was open, her fingers flying over the keyboard, but her eyes were wide with panic.“Mark…” she whispered. “It’s everywhere. Shareholders are calling. Compliance is auditing more than we anticipated. Even minor investors are asking questions.”Mark slammed his fist on the desk. “Stop panicking, Lily! We can still control this!”Lily shook her head. “No, Mark. You can’t. Ava… she’s gone beyond anything we’ve seen. S
