Chapter 1

"Ms. Ricci, something has happened to the signore!"

Before the pain of being hacked apart could fade from my mind, the housekeeper, Beatrice Santoro, rushed into my room, her face drained of all color.

I lowered my head. In my mind, all I could see were the faces of my two children, covered in blood, screaming as they clung to me.

"The Don is still at the family gathering," Beatrice said in a hushed voice. "The signore said he feels dizzy and can't catch his breath. He's resting in the east guest room right now… Ms. Ricci, could you go check on him?"

My steps froze. Cold sweat broke out on my palms. I had returned to the very day Matteo Caruso was drugged.

"Call Lucia Gallo over," I said quietly.

Beatrice froze. "What?"

"Stop wasting time. Matteo's been drugged," I said coldly. "If you wait any longer, dizziness will be the least of his problems."

In my previous life, the Consigliere said it wasn't an ordinary aphrodisiac. It was an ancient secret drug passed down through a rival family, known as Heartbane.

Once it took effect, only a woman with a specific blood type and constitution could neutralize it. Otherwise, the man would be left with permanent damage—sterility.

Meanwhile, I was the only one who could act as the antidote in the entire Caruso Estate.

Back then, Matteo stood up for me at school when I was being bullied. After graduation, against my parents' wishes, I hid my identity and willingly stayed with the Caruso family as his personal assistant. It was all so I could be closer to him.

So, when I heard what Beatrice said, I rushed into his room to check on him. However, Heartbane had already clouded his mind. He pinned me down onto the carpet without recognizing who I was.

I conceived that night.

I thought fate was finally bringing me together with the man I loved. I revealed my identity right away, bringing with me a massive fortune my padre had given me. I married into the Caruso family for the baby.

I thought it would be the beginning of love, but it was just the start of Matteo's torment.

He was convinced that night was a trap I had deliberately set. He believed I ruined his relationship with his first love and even drove her to jump to her death.

So, after marriage, he came home drunk every night, and that was if he even came home at all. Even when I was giving birth and hovering on the edge of death, he never once stepped into the hospital.

This time, after being reborn, I vowed to change the tragedy of my previous life.

I closed my eyes briefly and pulled my thoughts back, then turned and headed toward the basement level of the estate. That floor was off-limits to outsiders as it was Don Raffaele Caruso's private domain.

What Matteo didn't know was that he wasn't the only one who was drugged tonight. His father, Raffaele, was too.

I pushed open the heavy wrought iron door at the end of the corridor. Warm, damp air rushed at me.

Raffaele was leaning against the edge of a marble bathtub, his hair soaked and his brow tightly furrowed. His shirt was half unbuttoned, clinging to his rock-hard abs from the steam.

"Don Caruso, you've been poisoned," I said calmly. "I'm the only one who can safely get you through tonight."

He lifted his dangerous gaze to me, his voice hoarse. "Who sent you here?"

There had always been rumors that something was wrong with Raffaele's health. In my previous life, he never had children of his own. Matteo was just his adopted son.

That was why Matteo remained the sole heir until now. But what if, tonight, Raffaele planted his seed? I was unusually fertile, which was how I conceived after a single night in my previous life.

I loosened the tie of my sleepwear and stepped into the water without another word, answering his question with my actions instead of an explanation.

The next second, he rose sharply, water splashing high. His strong arms closed around me, trapping me in place. His low voice brushed against my ear. "I don't care who sent you, but tonight, you're not leaving here."

Time slipped by, and my belly slowly began to show. I was already well into the late stages of pregnancy.During this period, Raffaele practically took care of me himself. He wouldn't let anyone else step in. Instead, he strolled with me in the garden every day and prepared little gifts for me."Chiara," he said softly, handing me a box. "This is for you."Inside was a radiant pearl necklace. I glanced at it without saying anything."It's the largest pearl in all of Aron," he added, pinching the chain lightly with a trace of nervousness. He then relaxed and slipped it into his pocket. "What else do you like? I'll find it at the next auction and have them send it over directly."He carefully combed through my hair with his fingers, as if he were afraid of hurting me. Just as I was about to respond, my phone suddenly vibrated with a text message. It was Matteo."How are you doing, Chiara?"I closed the chat without hesitation and tossed my phone aside. It had been his routine re

After being tugged by Matteo, my abdomen tightened with mild uterine cramping. Without a word, Raffaele flew me to a private hospital in Sicara. Throughout the journey, he was cold and unreadable. The attending doctor was the Caruso family's designated obstetric consultant, so he was extremely experienced. After the exam, the doctor walked out of the lounge while holding the 4D ultrasound report with a smile."Congratulations, Don Caruso. They're fraternal twins."Raffaele was stunned for a few good seconds. He took the report and studied every word carefully. "The ultrasound demonstrates two gestational sacs with separate placentas, consistent with fraternal twin pregnancy…"He lowered his head and smiled before pulling me into a tight embrace. I could hear the subtle tremor in his voice. "Chiara, you've brought true honor to the Caruso family."I leaned against him while smiling softly, teasing him, "And does that honor come with any rewards?"Raffaele arched an eyebrow, then p

The report clearly read, "Pregnant with twins at six weeks."Raffaele's hand holding the wine glass froze for a moment. His gaze fell on the report, and for a long time, he was silent. When he finally found his voice, he asked, "Is this… real? Are they our children? Amore mio, this is such a wonderful surprise!"His normally stern expression softened, a smile spreading across his face without restraint. The next second, he picked up his phone and tweeted, "The Caruso family will welcome a new generation of heirs—two of them, to be exact."Not long after, the gates swung open. Matteo walked in furiously. His expression almost contorted when he glanced at my abdomen.I smiled and stood, raising my glass of non-alcoholic sparkling wine. "Perfect timing, Matteo. Come, celebrate the newest members of our family with us."Matteo's gaze was glued to my belly, and his jaw was clenched. "Chiara!"Before he could say more, Raffaele chimed in sternly, "You will not call her by her name. She

In less than a day, the maids who had previously mocked me were thrown out of the estate overnight. Replacing them was a new group personally hired by Raffaele.Inside the VIP lounge of a jewelry store, I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I was draped in gold and diamonds. The full set was worth over 500 million. At the center of the necklace was a rare pink diamond, personally bid on by Raffaele at a top-tier auction in Buresa. In my previous life, when I was married to Matteo, he wouldn't even buy me a cheap silver chain from a street stall. Before I could linger on that thought, he suddenly appeared.Matteo stared at me viciously. "You really are shameless. To get into my family, you even stripped for my papa?"I lightly touched the unhealed scar on my face and smiled mockingly at him. "He does last longer than you, though."His face flushed with rage. "W-What are you talking about? You're doing this just to get my attention, right, Chiara?"I glanced at him sideways. "T

Matteo froze, his movements stiffening as he slowly released the dagger. He spun around abruptly, trying to explain, "Papa, I was just trying to give Chiara a lesson. She pushed Lucia off the second floor!"Seeing Raffaele's figure, I finally let out a sigh of relief. I forced myself to ignore the searing pain across my face and shouted, "I didn't do it!""Who else could it be, then? Don't try to lie!" Matteo snapped. "Papa, a woman with such corrupt behavior doesn't belong in the Caruso family at all."I stared at him coldly. "I didn't do anything! Check the surveillance yourself! You had no right to ruin my face!"Lucia bit her lip, her eyes red at the corners as she looked at Raffaele. "Don Caruso, I tripped by accident. It really wasn't Chiara's fault. It's me—I caused all this."Raffaele said nothing at first, but the next moment, he stepped forward and kicked Matteo across six feet. He crashed hard against the entryway pillar. His voice was laced with hostility. "Are you try

The maids downstairs screamed as they rushed out onto the porch, followed by the sound of Matteo's footsteps."Lucia!" he yelled, rushing over and scooping her up from the ground. "Someone get the family doctor—now!"Lucia leaned against him, her voice trembling with tears. "I slipped by accident… I swear it wasn't Ms. Ricci who pushed me. I was just scared she'd take you away from me…""Chiara Ricci!" Matteo growled, his gaze cutting coldly toward me. "Bring her to me!"Two bodyguards in black uniforms immediately grabbed my arms, roughly dragging me downstairs and forcing me to my knees. My forehead slammed against the edge of a stone step, sharp pain flaring up.Matteo loomed over me, his eyes icy. "How dare you try to harm her?"I gritted my teeth. "It wasn't me. There are cameras everywhere. Check the footage and you'll see."Lucia tugged at his sleeve, softly pleading, "Don't blame her, please… She didn't mean it.""How are you still defending her?"Matteo's anger flared
