MasukINDY
The people here really hated me! I was able to leave my room easily without getting caught because they were too busy gossiping about what I had done a while ago. Leaning against the walls of the gates, I heard two maids talking with a guard.
“The house has really been unpleasant ever since Lucinda was engaged to the Alpha Prince. It’s only been three months, but it already feels like a lifetime,” one of the maids said.
“Shh,” the guard silenced her. “She wants all servants to call her by her full name, remember? Lucindabella only. We’ll get tormented if she hears us.”
The other maid scoffed. “It’s not like she’ll hear us.”
Well, I was here. Not that it mattered, though. I wasn’t offended by their words. I, too, knew how evil Lucindabella truly was.
“She’s probably up in her room thinking of another plan to lure Alpha Rome. However, she will never succeed. Clara is far better than her. I wish she would just leave this house.”
“I will,” I whispered to myself. I was already thinking of all the other places I had written into this book. My mom’s province—Bellarium—was especially beautiful. There were also other provinces that felt like a joy to live in as an introverted person.
“Should I just poison her food?”
I pursed my lips. Well, I guess I’d have to be more careful with my meals from now on.
With that, I sneaked out of the gates without any trouble, still making sure to be careful because they were wolves with keen hearing. Once I ensured an adequate distance, I began moving around more freely. I whistled a happy tune and breathed in the fresh air.
However, I suddenly felt my chest ache. A whimper echoed in my ears, and I reckoned it was my wolf. In this universe, one’s inner wolf would manifest through instinctive utterances and reactions; but human forms cannot communicate with their wolf forms through words. Still, without such communication, I could feel my wolf longing for Rome.
Mate. Mate. Mate.
She must be feeling like this because I was leaving the house after staying here for months.
“There, there,” I muttered, patting my chest. “Your mate doesn’t love you. You’ll get used to it someday.”
I felt another ache but ignored it, looking around the surroundings instead.
“I really did make a beautiful world.”
It wasn’t perfect at all, but after getting used to the four corners of my small apartment, this felt like heaven. I paused for a while when I remembered Larissa, though. I would truly miss her presence and aggressive pieces of advice. However, she always wanted me to live for myself. With that, I was even more determined to break off this engagement.
That was why I sneaked out in the first place.
The very first person I needed to convince was none other than my father.
Gideon Pendragon, the eldest son of Dragon Pendragon, a.k.a. Lucinda’s worst nightmare.
Well, in the book, Lucinda loved her father a lot—mostly because he was the only parent she had left. Her mother died after giving birth to her, so her family always held an unspoken grudge against her. When she manifested as a Beta at the age of 5, it was another demerit to her character. From that point on, she always tried to prove herself in the worst ways possible. Back then, I wanted to show the readers that Lucinda wasn’t a villain by heart but a villain built by her trauma. However, it was never accepted well when I tried to introduce her backstory, so I never bothered.
The Pendragon household wasn’t too far from the Windsor mansion. In fact, it was only two miles away. Another two miles and the Court of Justice would be found.
I recognized the estate even from afar. It was far from the other houses and undoubtedly the largest in the subdivision—not as big as the Windsor’s but definitely still far too large.
I arrived at the gates, and the guards were immediately startled the moment they saw me. “Lady Lucindabella,” they bowed.
I bowed to them as well and greeted, “A pleasant evening.”
They lifted their heads slightly and appeared confused. I didn’t waste any time then and went inside. They were about to escort me, but I held out a hand.
“It’s fine,” I smiled. “Just take care of your posts.”
Again, they looked perplexed.
“Oh, and call me Indy from now on. My name is far too long.”
Despite not seeing their reactions, I could sense how stunned they were from behind me. I giggled to myself and shook my head. However, the moment I entered the house, I felt a chill run down my spine, causing the small smile playing on my lips to drop.
I heard the sound of utensils clanging elegantly against plates, paired with the scent of meat and vegetables. My stomach grumbled. I realized then that I still hadn’t eaten since I came into this world.
I walked slowly until I reached the dining area. I didn’t even have to make myself known before four pairs of eyes snapped toward me.
Genevieve, the eldest daughter. Archibald, the literally balding twin of Genevieve. Tristan, the sibling who openly hated me. At the head of the table was my father, surprised by my appearance.
“Lucindabella, what are you doing here? You didn’t inform us of your visit.”
I looked down at the spread and saw the scrumptious-looking food. However, there wasn’t a spot for me, and I definitely couldn’t eat properly with all of their stares, so I decided to proceed with my plan and leave.
“I just came to inform you about something,” I started off.
Genevieve sighed, shaking her head. “You could have just asked the messenger to send a message.”
Genevieve has always been the one closest to my mother as she was the eldest, so I knew she was the one who hated me the most. She just didn’t make it obvious like Tristan did.
“This is an important one,” I said.
That captured their attention.
“What is it?” Archibald asked. “Is it the wedding? Father has already set a date for it.”
“It’s about the wedding,” I affirmed.
My father’s face slightly lit up with the mention of my marriage. A small smile appeared on his lips with the thought of marrying me to the most powerful household. I knew his objective after all. He plans to merge the Court of Justice and the royal family to govern over all the packs. That way, he would have more power as the Lord Justiciar.
So, this marriage was really important to him.
Well, sorry Dad. I was going to ruin your dream.
“I don’t want to get married to Alpha Rome anymore.”
INDY The steam still clung to my skin as I stepped out of the shower. A low growl rumbled behind me, and then Rome’s arms were around my waist, pulling me back against his hard chest. “Mmm, you smell good enough to eat, my baby.” His lips found the sensitive curve of my neck, sending a shiver through me.“Rome, I just washed,” I murmured, a weak protest that died in my throat as his fingers traced the damp line of my spine.“I’ll clean you up again, don’t worry.” His hand slipped lower, cupping me, and a soft gasp escaped my lips. “Ah, Rome,” I moaned, unable to stop myself. I turned in his embrace, my hands finding the wet skin of his chest. Our lips met in a heated kiss. We stumbled out, leaving a trail of damp footprints, our clothes discarded in a mess. The bed in his bedroom swallowed us as he pinned me beneath him. “Wild thing,” he breathed against my mouth, and just like that, he made love to me until I was lost in pleasure. Later, I found him in his office, brow furrow
POPPY One moment, we were making out on the couch of his mansion, then, before I knew it, we were in his room—his scent filling my senses. Jude sat on the edge of my bed, his broad shoulders hunched slightly, a nervous energy radiating off him that contrasted the confident glint in his eyes. Moonlight highlights the lean muscle beneath his t-shirt. My heart hammered a frantic rhythm against my ribs. We’d been circling this moment for weeks, and finally, we were here. “You know,” he began, “I’ve actually been… preparing for this.” He swallowed, a visible bob in his throat.I laughed, a shaky, breathy sound. “Preparing? What, did you read a manual, Jude?” I was trying to lighten the mood, but a spark of genuine curiosity flickered within me. Jude, for all his quiet intensity, had always struck me as someone who took things seriously, perhaps too seriously. He grinned. “Something like that. And a little practice, I guess.” His eyes held mine, a mischievous glint dancing in their dep
POPPY There had been many moments—too many, actually. Moments where we were close to the point that I could feel Jude’s breath brushing against my lips, where the space between us was so thin that it almost felt meaningless. Moments where I thought, " This is it. And yet, it never happened. At least, not completely. Something always stopped us. Most of the time, it was his work. Sometimes, it was me. Sometimes, it was just… the overwhelming awareness that neither of us knew what we were doing. I lay on my bed one afternoon, a book resting open against my chest, my eyes scanning the same line over and over again without actually absorbing a single word. My mind was somewhere else, specifically, on my mate. I let out a soft groan and dropped the book over my face. “This is so embarrassing,” I muttered into the pages. The books I had been reading lately were not helpful at all. They were bold and wild—detailed in ways that made my face heat up just thinking about the
INDY When we returned from Firefell, I felt so much better. The world hadn’t changed, but I had. The car ride back to the mansion was quiet and comfortable. Rome sat beside me, his arm draped behind me, his fingers occasionally brushing against my waist. His hand slipped lower, bold and entirely unashamed, and squeezed my waist. “Rome,” I said sternly. He did it again with a cheeky smile. I turned to glare at him, but he only smirked, appearing unrepentant.“What?” he asked innocently.“You need to stop,” I said, lowering my voice. “We’re almost home.”“Exactly,” I shot back. “We are almost home.”He leaned closer, his breath warm against my ear.“I’ll see you later in the bedroom, hmm?” he murmured. My heart skipped a beat, and I shook my head. “Haven’t you had enough in Firefell?” He turned to me with a smirk. “I will never have enough.” The car came to a stop, and before I could say anything else, he was already stepping out excitedly. I took it, but I knew that look in
INDY The flight back to Firefell was supposed to feel like the beginning of something new.It was our honeymoon. And yet, as I sat beside Rome, staring out the small oval window of the plane at the endless stretch of clouds below, my thoughts refused to calm down. They had not settled since the night of our wedding, most especially since that moment in the bathroom where I heard the two maids talking about our capability to have an heir. I swallowed softly, my fingers tapping against my lap.“Indy.”I turned my head and found Rome watching me. His gaze looked worried, as though he had been observing me for far longer than I realized.“Are you okay?” he asked.I could hear the genuine concern in his voice, and it made me more apprehensive. I forced a small smile.“Yeah,” I said. “Everything’s good.”The lie slipped out too easily, but he did not call me out on it.Instead, he studied me for a moment longer before nodding slowly.“Alright.”He reached over, his hand finding mine, hi
INDY The wedding ceremony itself had already ended. It had been intimate in a way I never expected a wedding to be, especially one involving an Alpha like Rome. There were no overwhelming crowds pressing in close, no roaring cheers echoing off grand halls during the vows. Instead, it had been held quietly inside the mansion, within walls that had seen years of royalty long before I ever stepped into them.Only a select few had been present during the ceremony itself.I could still feel the lingering warmth of Rome’s hand in mine as we stood before them earlier, his gaze never once leaving mine as though the entire world had narrowed down to just the two of us.Now, the doors to the gardens stood just ahead.Beyond them, everyone else waited. The moment we would step out not just as two individuals, but as one. “Let’s go,” Rome said softly.I turned to him.He looked composed, as always, but there was something softer in his expression, somehow. I nodded.Together, we stepped forw
INDY By late afternoon, the elders had decided that we were no longer welcome at the celebration—at least, not in an unkind way. Mila pressed wrapped bread and roasted meat into my hands with a knowing smile. Otis muttered something about young people needing air. Irene only looked at me for a lo
INDY I did not remember standing up.One moment, Rome’s body was collapsing into mine, his weight dragging us both into the snow, and the next I was on my feet, shifting his arm over my shoulder and forcing my legs to move. Panic had replaced every coherent thought in my mind. The cottages were on
INDY “This is Indy.”The announcement followed me like a banner as I was led through the narrow dirt paths of the village. The houses were small and built of timber and stone, their roofs layered with dried thatch and moss that had settled over time. Faces emerged from doorways and open windows a
INDY The war table had never looked so unforgiving.Maps, letters, sealed statements, financial records, and sworn testimonies were spread across its vast oak surface. My father stood at the head of the table, both hands braced against its edge. Age had not diminished him physically, but tonight
