As they exited the forest, the jeep rolled into a desolate countryside. The road stretched ahead, mostly empty, lined with scattered houses and distant figures. Whenever someone caught sight of the vehicle, they turned away or retreated in haste.

A middle-aged woman stepped forward to cross the road. Sherry instinctively slowed down, but the woman froze when she saw the vehicle. Clutching her child tightly, she backed away with a fearful look and vanished behind a fence.

Sherry frowned. “Why do they look so afraid of us?”

“They probably think we’re from the military,” Levian replied, eyes scanning the surroundings. She gave a small nod. That more or less explained it.

When they’d first arrived at Udyous, the people at the port hadn’t welcomed Stephan or his men exactly.

“The location Andreas gave us is just a few kilometers ahead,” Levian added, leaning back. They didn’t have time to concern themselves with the country’s internal affairs.

The road gradually narrowed as they drove. So

Belingjun and Adannael arrived at the intersection and stopped their vehicles. They climbed down and began searching the area for signs.“Belingjun!” Adannael called out when he spotted faint tire marks veering off-road behind a thick patch of bushes. He rushed over, and both men examined the ground before exchanging a knowing glance. There were two distinct sets of tire tracks.“The Lieutenant must have gone after them,” Adannael said. Without wasting another second, they both ran back to their jeeps and started following the tracks. After several hours of driving through the wild forest, they finally spotted an abandoned car up ahead. They stopped and cautiously approached it. Each man took a side, and at a silent count, they opened the car doors simultaneously.“This…” Speechless, they both looked at each other in horror. What they saw inside was two corpses, placed casually on the seats.“We have to report back to His Lordship,” Belingjun said, closing the door and taking a deep b

“Lieutenant Stephan is missing?” Aldrevon asked, eyes wide, as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. The Vice General lowered his head and gave a stiff nod. “The other teams lost contact with him shortly before sunrise.” Team Badagar couldn’t reach him, so they contacted the base headquarters about his disappearance. When he heard the news, he rushed straight towards Aldrevon’s chamber.“What are the chances?” Aldrevon asked, tightening the robe around his waist. “He’s either out of communication range,” the Vice General said, “or, in the worst-case scenario,” he paused. “Lieutenant Stephan is dead.”Aldrevon cast him a sharp look. The Vice General lowered his gaze, afraid. It was only that morning he knew about the direct assassination order from Aldrevon that Stephan had been carrying out. When things hadn’t gone as planned, he had chased them down himself.“Vice-General,” Aldrevon called him out before he could lose himself in his thoughts.“Y-yes, Your Lordship?”“Get me t

“The fuck…?”Crouched in the jeep, the bodyguard watched everything happen through a crack in the window. When the so-called High Chancellor peeled the synthetic skin from his face, revealing someone entirely different, the bodyguard’s brain just… froze. He didn’t recognize the man, but judging from Stephan’s expression, that man wasn’t just an impostor. They knew each other.Outside, the two men stared each other down. “Since I’m in a good mood…” Stephan muttered again, cracking his neck, “…let’s settle this for once, and for all.” He tossed his gun to the ground with a metallic clunk.Levian raised an eyebrow. “What are you playing at?”“Let’s play a game,” Stephan said, slyly smiling.“We fight. No weapons. If you knock me out, you win. I do the same, I win. But…” he glanced down at the gun, “…whoever reaches one first gets to finish it. One bullet. One corpse.”“That’s how we do it in the military.”“You are on.” Levian‘s expression darkened. Then, wordlessly, he dropped his weap

“Lieutenant!” The soldier saluted as Stephan stormed inside the motor pool, a ferocious expression on his face. Stephan jumped inside his jeep and extended his hand out.“The keys!” Stephan wasn’t in a good mood. The soldier could see that. Scared he might get caught in the crossfire, he threw the keys into his hand. Instead of landing on his palm, the key fell inside and dropped near his feet.“Moron!” Stephan cursed. “All of these bastards are good for nothing.” Still cursing under his teeth, he picked up the key and started the jeep. “I should have followed right after that old man.”The guards at the entrance immediately lifted the barricade to let Stephan’s vehicle through. Stephan was feeling a little tipsy after the party, so the cool night breeze helped him clear his head.He arrived at the cross-section within 5 minutes. “The fuck?” Stephan noticed a man against a tree. Holding his gun, he jumped down from the jeep and vigilantly looked around, checking for an ambush. His

When they walked out of the hall, Sherry spotted Andreas leaning against a tree, smoking lazily. The moment the guests began exiting, he flicked the butt to the ground and crushed it beneath his heel before casually walking up to the first couple.“Have a safe trip back to your villa, Mr.Aeloria,” he said with a polite nod to the man rushing out with his wife clinging to his arm.Aeloria didn’t respond. He slipped into the car without a word, and the bodyguard assigned to him started the engine, speeding off into the night.Andreas turned to the couple approaching him. “I hope you had an amazing night, High Chancellor Jorik Valrmon,” he smiled, extending his hand towards Levian.Levian took it and gave it a firm shake. “It’s all thanks to your preparation.” His brows lifted slightly when he felt something rigid pressed between their palms, rigid and metallic. He glanced at Andreas, who only smiled and withdrew his hand. “Well then, goodbye. I’ll see you on the other side of the sea.”

The soft chirping of crickets and distant howls of wolves filled the night air as Andreas silently walked along the dark pavement. After a while, he arrived in front of the base camp entrance. The two soldiers on night duty immediately got alert upon hearing footsteps coming out of the dark jungle path.“Who goes there?” They raised their rifles, pointing straight at the approaching figure.“Oh, it’s just you, Mr. Andreas,” one of them sighed, lowering his weapon. “You are back already?”“I said I was going for a small walk to cool off my head, right?” Andreas replied with a soft smile. He pulled out an identification card from his pocket and showed it to the guards. “I can’t be gone for too long,” he said as he gestured towards the building where the banquet was being held. “The banquet isn’t over yet.”The guard glanced at the ID, then gave a small nod.“Right,” he said with a half-smile, stepping aside. “Go on in, Mr. Andreas.”Andreas thanked the guard and walked away, shoving his

“I am here to pick you up, High Chancellor,” the bodyguard who had driven them to the villa curtsied as he opened the car door. “His Lordship is waiting.”“Let’s go,” Levian spoke in a dry voice as he pulled Sherry towards him and climbed inside the car. The bodyguard sneaked a peek at the couple in the backseat through the rear-view mirror. He still had not recovered from the incident before.“What are you looking at, mister?” Sherry asked, glaring at him. He hurriedly shook his head and started the engine. Within five minutes, the car pulled out in front of a grand, white building. They had reached their destination.Stepping out of the car, Sherry sized the building with her eyes. Just standing outside the door, she felt the oppressive aura that was waiting for her…waiting for them, right behind the door. “Are you alright, baby?” Levian whispered softly, holding her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze.Sherry shook her head with a smile. It was too late to back out now, not after

“Thanks for the ride, sir!” Andreas chirped as he jumped down from the jeep. He grabbed the bottle he had kept from the back. After saluting Stephan, he walked into the camp. Stephan gave a light hum in response. Then he drove away to the motor pool. As soon as he hopped down from the driver’s seat, a soldier approached him. “Lieutenant,” he said, taking the key, “His Lordship has asked for you in the meeting room.”“Alright.”Stephan swiftly turned around and made his way to the big building in the middle of the base camp.~Stephan stood outside a huge metal door. A mechanical female voice echoed in the silent hallway: “Authorization required.” Stephan stepped closer to the door, letting the system scan his pupil and fingerprints.“Authorization confirmed.” Then, with a clicking sound, the door slid open. As soon as Stephan walked inside, the door shut tightly behind him. There were 6 other people already waiting for him inside the secret meeting room.Hearing his footsteps, every
