Chapter 13: Poison.

I hadn't told anyone about kara or my deal with her so when they told me someone called saying her name was Kara and she was my wife, I immediately requested to be connected to the call.

“ This is Pierce speaking, who did you say you were?”

“Hey. Pierce, it's me Kara. My family locked me up in my room, I can't escape. I need your help.” she said, voice hoarse most likely from crying.

As soon as I heard what she said, I felt my blood turn to lava.

I'm on my way.” I immediately grabbed my coat and suit and walked out of the office.

Jason, my sister's husband who's also my PA followed behind me, matching my hurried steps.

“Hey, Pierce. What's the matter? You look…tense.”

“Someone locked my wife up like a prisoner.” I said with clenched fists, veins bulging from my neck.

“Wait…what? What wife? Are you sick in the head?” Jason asked, bewildered.

“Long story. We have to get her out of there. Fast.”

“Okay but when did you get married? Without anyone's knowledge or approval? Do you also have a child or is something else I should know?”

I said nothing and just got into the car.

“Drive.”

“address?”

“Pure-way estate. The jones family villa. Step on it.”

The atmosphere I'm the vehicle was tense.

The ride from my office was quiet, Jason didn't say a word to me and I just kept my eyes ahead. It originally supposed to be a 45 minutes ride. We made it in thirty.

As soon ashe parked the car in front of the house, I went in without invitation.

Everyone was seated at the dinning table. The family of four was missing one person. Kara.

“Mr kay. What're you doing here?” Serena asked, shifting on her seat nervously.

“Serena, don't ask irrelevant questions. Please. Join us.” Mrs jones stood up and motioned for me to join them at the dinning the table.

“Hm. I'm not here to eat. I'm here for my wife.” I said as icily, my expression unreadable. I tried to not show how I was burning with anger beneath my skin.

“Wife? I know we're in talks of marriage but calling Serena your wife already is still moving too fast.” She joked.

“I'm not here for jokes. Where's Kara?!”

The living room suddenly became chilly and they all avoided eye contact.

I looked around the living room and went up the stairs. I saw different doors and didn't know which one was Kara's.

I tried opening them all one by one till I got to the smallest one at the far end of the hallway.

I tried to open it. It was locked.

“Bring me the Keys!” I thundered making Serena and her mom cower in fear.

Shaking, she commanded her bodyguard to go fetch the keys from her room.

He was taking too long and I wasn't hearing any movements from inside. My patience had faded already.

I kicked the door and broke it down.

There she was. sprawled on the ground. Looking pale.

I looked around the room,it was plain. Too plain. Strokes drawn with crayons on the wall, the paint was already old. like it's not been repainted since the first painting. A small bed sat beside the small window and a cupboard was beside it.

I hurried to her side and lifted her up. She weighed so little it was like carrying nothing.

I didn't ask any questions and just walked past them with her in my arms while they followed like scared puppies.

“If anything happens to her, you'll all be sorry.” I said with finality and walked down the stairs and out the door.

Jason was waiting. He quickly opened door to the backseat and I got in with her.

“Should I drive you to the hospital?”

“ No. My private residence. I'll call Doc.”

My personal doctor. Nate.

Jason,Nate and I all grew up together. Nate majored in medicine to take over his family business, they owned the major hospitals in the city. He even learnt Chinese medicine and I trust him with my life.

Jason and I majored in business, he stood beside me and followed me when I opened my own establishment.

He later got married to my sister. Apparently, they've had a thing going on for a while before she decided to tell the family.

They kept it a secret at first because he's not from a high ranking family and has no one in the world to back him up.

My father was against the married at first but my stubborn sister stood her ground and they got married. She never allowed my family to trash talk her husband no matter who it was and always spoke up for him. He in turn, always listened to her.

What the both of them have is admirable and all but not for me. Me and love don't get along and I've accepted it.

My situation with Kara is temporary and one fueled by guilt. I have no idea how she'll react if she knows.

“Heyo, frosty. To what do I owe this pleasure? Did the sky turn purple?” His holy voice rang out as soon as the call connected.

“Hey Nate, can you make it to my private residence in an 30 minutes? It's an emergency.”

“ Are you hurt? Where? How did you get hurt?, I'm leaving the hospital right now.” The playfulness in his voice was gone. Nate was a worrywart and the friendliest of the three of us.

“Not me. My wife. It's urgent,I'll explain later.”

“Wife? You? How did you get married? When–”

I disconnected the line before he could start examining me.

I got home and Nate was already there. Waiting.

He took one look at the girl in my arms, her lips had turned blue. His expression turned serious and his brows creased. He said one word.

“Poison.”
