ADIRA'S POV

The drive back had me listening and singing along to my favorite song that was playing on the radio.

I shook my head, tapped my fingers on the steering wheel, and sang at the top of my voice, something I had not done in a very long while.

When I got pregnant and moved to Ryder's pack, I had to suddenly become mature and grown. In that process, I lost myself, lost my bubbly character, and lost my little happy moments of dancing and singing. The little things that gave life meaning disappeared, but I had to keep living.

But now after visiting home and remembering that lost part of me, I felt the urge to find her again. To find that lost part of me and to be happy again, but how do I do that with life constantly throwing hurdles at me?

I sighed and lowered the volume of the music. The little happiness I earlier felt was draining out of me.

“Everything does not need to be perfect first before we can become happy,” my wolf muttered.

“But how do I find happiness in the imperfec

RYDER'S POVI stood still in confusion as Adira walked out. I could sense and feel her anger, which I knew was because Scarlet was here, but what surprised me was why she was cold towards me. I wanted to rush after her, but I knew that I had to deal with the situation first.“Why are you here, Scarlet?” I asked calmly even though I was raging inside.“I came to see you,” she replied and continued eating. “Take a seat; let us eat and talk. It has been a long time,” she said.“There is nothing to talk about between us anymore, Scarlet. You also do not need to visit me, but since you are already here, you might as well enjoy the pack for a while before you leave. And that is only because of the relationship between our families,” I said firmly.“Why are you being so cold?” she snapped and got up. “You were the one begging me to stay with you, to not leave you. Now I am back, and you are acting like this?” She pushed her chair back and walked over to me.“That is right. I loved you and ne

ADIRA'S POV As I walked away, I tried not to think about them or what they could be doing. I dropped Lumina off at school and went straight to the library to do some research. If there was one thing I was certain about, it was the fact that the dream I had some days back had been an indication of the sudden turmoil I have now been thrown into. And one thing Mum said that made a lot of sense was that clearly the masquerades wanted Lumina dead. It was something I already knew also. But the question is why?Mum and Dad had given us major reasons why the masquerades often killed people, but none of them made any sense when in Lumina's situation. So now I was left to find other reasons why they could be after Lumina’s life. “Could the masquerades be the ones that killed us in our past life?” My wolf asked.“I doubt that.” I replied as I rummaged through the shelves looking for the books Dad had recommended. “Nothing about our death in the past life follows the modus operandi of the Mas

ADIRA'S POVThe beautiful morning sun graced me with clearer thoughts. Even sleep-deprived, my mind felt clearer and steadier than last night.I slowly got up from where I was seated and opened the curtains. Breathing in deeply, I closed my eyes and basked in the sun.“Nothing matters if it's not changing our fate. Forget about love, Ryder, or Scarlet.” I muttered under my breath. “We will focus on only finding a way to escape this wicked fate.”“That's right. We are no longer the Adira from the past. We have changed and evolved. We won’t make the same mistake twice,” my wolf agreed.“Let's get ready and go out. There is a lot we need to do.” I turned around and walked over to Lumina's bed.“Hey baby…” I gently rubbed her back. She stirred and turned to the other side. “Sweetheart, it's time to wake up.” I rubbed her cheek. She pouted and slowly opened her eyes. Her eyelashes fluttered as she tried to keep them open. I chuckled at the cute face she was making.Lumina was literally eve

ADIRA'S POV The visit to my parents was a nice time. Ryder finally got to apologise to my parents, not with rehearsed words or Alpha pride, but with quiet sincerity. And we all just had a good time. By the time we were ready to leave, we carried more than bags and leftover food. We carried knowledge. Fragments of truth about the masquerades, pieces that did not quite fit yet but felt heavy in my chest all the same. There had been too much activity, too many interruptions, and too much warmth to sit down and dissect what we had learnt. We agreed to talk once we returned home.“Has she fallen asleep?” Ryder asked, glancing quickly at the back and looking straight ahead immediately.I twisted slightly back and noticed that Lumina’s head had slumped to the side, her lashes resting softly against her cheeks, her small hands still clutching the toy my mother had insisted she take. “Out like light. All that running around must have exhausted her.” I chuckled.“She is the reason we are retu

RORY'S POVHer face was filled with worry, and her eyes were drowning in unspoken fear. “Take a seat; let's talk.” I said to her in a solemn voice. She slowly took a seat and sat down. I joined her and held her hand. “Will you talk to me?” I asked calmly. “Tell me what's really going on. Tell me what’s really on your mind,” I said. She breathed in deeply and bent her head. As she looked up, her eyes were filled with a certain emotion I couldn't decipher, but I could tell that she was searching my eyes.“You still don't trust me?” I asked, my voice breaking at the end.“Can I trust you?” she asked instead of giving a reply.“Yes, you can,” I replied strongly. “I know I haven't given you so many reasons to. But trust me, please. Let me start proving it to you now.”Her eyes continued to search mine before she nodded and looked away.Whatever she saw in them must have given her the answers she wanted. She took a deep breath, released it, and opened her mouth to speak.“I think there is a

ADIRA'S POVI dressed up and left the house. “Meet me at our rendezvous point,” I mindlinked my group as I made my way out.I knew I had to take immediate action because that dream was an unusual one. And it felt too real to just be considered a dream. Something was going to happen, and I would be lucky if I could block it before it did.I moved quickly, and by the time I got there, they were all already waiting.“Luna, is everything okay?” Rose asked.“I wasn't expecting to get such an urgent mindlink from you this morning. It's been quite peaceful in the pack. Did something happen that we are yet to be aware of?” Lyra asked.Roland asked no questions. He just watched keenly and waited.“Something feels off. I can't pinpoint what it is, but it feels like something is about to happen soon.” I swallowed heavily. “I had a weird dream this morning and…” my teeth clenched and I closed my eyes momentarily. “The dream, which I am not ready to talk about, felt too real and it wasn't a good o
