Marilyn

Today was easily one of the happiest days of my life.

The dining table was set with all of my favourite food and a candlelight arrangement, just how I liked it.

My favourite people—my handsome husband, Walter, and my supportive best friend, Olivia—were sitting across from me, their smiles wide.

I felt so lucky to have them, and I was particularly excited about sharing my special news with Olivia.

As I cleared my throat, preparing to speak, I wondered why Walter insisted on sitting across from me—beside Olivia—when it was actually our special news and not just mine.

Nonetheless, I shook the thought out of my head, plastered a huge smile on my face and raised my glass.

“A toast, please,” I said as Walter and Olivia proceeded to lift their glasses.

“What’s the occasion?” Olivia asked.

I turned my face to stare lovingly at Walter.

He managed a small smile that didn’t quite meet his beautiful green eyes, and for a minute, I wondered if something was wrong.

“Are you okay, honey?”

He looked at Olivia for a second, but she averted his eyes, before he turned back to me and offered a bigger smile.

“Of course. I just want you to have this moment.”

His words reassured me, and I smiled again, raising my glass higher.

“So, Olivia, I don’t know if you noticed, but my glass is the only one that doesn’t have red wine. I asked to be served grape juice instead because… I’m pregnant!”

It took Olivia a second to react before she raised her glass to meet mine.

“My goodness! Marilyn! Walter! I am so happy for you guys! Quickly, let’s toast! This is the best news ever!”

I was smiling from pure joy as we toasted in celebration.

“I hope we have a girl, and I really hope she’s born with your beautiful face,” Walter said to me before taking a sip of his wine.

“I agree. I really hope it’s a girl. I can’t wait to have a little niece who looks just like you, Mar!”

Their words nearly moved me to tears, and I clutched my chest thinking about how incredibly lucky I was to have them.

Olivia, who had been by my side since high school, celebrating all of my victories as though they were hers, and Walter, my darling—so gorgeous, with striking green eyes and a face as though it was sculpted by a god, and on top of that, I was having his baby.

I felt like the luckiest woman in the world as I finally took my glass to my lips and sipped my juice.

After taking a sip, I attempted to put the glass down, but Olivia quickly spoke up.

“No, no, let’s all drink more! It’s a very happy day, you’re having a baby after all!”

“I agree, have another sip,” Walter insisted as they both drank out of their glasses as well.

“Alright,” I agreed with a big smile as I drank more of my juice. I was a bit taken aback by the slight bitter taste, but I pushed away the thought.

Finally, I set down my glass and was about to start telling them the baby names I had been thinking of when suddenly, I felt very dizzy, as though the room was spinning.

I let out a weak gasp, placing my hand on my head.

“Mar, are you okay?” I heard Olivia say, but I couldn’t respond to her.

It felt as though something was clutching at my chest, sucking the air out of me and draining me of life. My vision suddenly became hazy and I fell off my seat at the table, onto the floor.

Panic surged through me. What was happening to me and my baby? Walter and Olivia would definitely call an ambulance, right?

“Help me!” I managed to cough out from where I lay on the floor.

That was when I heard a sinister laugh, and slow footsteps toward me.

From where I lay, designer loafers, followed by custom diamond-encrusted heels, appeared before me.

The laughter was from Walter and Olivia, and I lay there, gasping for air, deeply confused and wondering why no one was helping me.

I managed to grab onto the hem of Olivia’s dress with my last bit of strength, but to my greatest shock, she kicked my hand away.

“Get off me, you whore!”

What was happening???

My eyes were filling with tears now as I looked over at Walter, but he only had an indifferent smirk on his face.

“Leave her alone, Marilyn. Simply accept your fate. There’s no escaping this. Three years in an awful marriage with you, and now I’m finally free.

You’re unbearable! I hate you so much, you and your unborn child, who I never wanted anything to do with!”

I couldn’t control my coughing, and by now, I was crying deeply from how much my heart was breaking.

Could it be? Did they plan this?

From my last bit of vision, I could see Walter wrapping his arms around Olivia, and I finally understood.

She was his mistress.

“The least you deserve before your death is the truth. We poisoned you, Marilyn. So we can finally be together and inherit your family’s money! This was always the plan, and now it’s finally happening!”

I heard Olivia laugh along with him as I turned on my back and clutched onto my chest.

How could I have been so stupid?

Angry tears filled my eyes as I struggled to breathe, my breath getting tighter while they giggled and sipped wine as I lay on the floor in agony.

“It’s done, my love. I’m free of her and that bastard child,” were the last words I heard from my beloved husband before I took my last agonising breath.

Marilyn’s POV Anticipation welled up inside me as I read Faith’s text again. Just when I was starting to feel stuck, progress finally stirred. I glanced at David, his expression tense, but he remained silent. He didn’t want me to face whoever this was. “You still don’t want me to know” I said. He sighed, dragging his hands over his face. “It’s not that. I just want you safe. This person, she has unlimited resources. We can’t go against her unprepared.” “I am prepared “ I said firmly. His eyes softened , a small smile forming at the edge of his lips. “Okay, Marilyn. But this won’t be easy, I just want to make sure- My phone rang, cutting him off. Faith was calling. “I need to go” I whispered. He nodded, a defeated look in his eyes. “Okay “ I hesitated, wanting to say something, but I didn’t know what. I wasn’t ready to listen to him doubt what I could handle right now, but at the same time, I was starting to believe that he had my best interest at heart.

  • Reborn to Ruin the CEO   Chapter 11: Anything for you

David’s POV I couldn’t pretend like I didn’t surprise myself when I had said “ Anything for you” to Marilyn. But I also couldn’t deny how much I meant it. When I saw her at the gala, she had captivated me, and I couldn’t explain why. As I pulled up to the address she had given me, I spotted her almost immediately, walking elegantly out of the restaurant, her steps slow and deliberate as always. Her outfit was stunning, but to me, she was beautiful no matter what she wore. A faint unreadable smile was on her lips as I approached her. Something was wrong. Had someone hurt her? I felt the urge to wrap my arms around her, but I decided against it. She was a woman who respected her boundaries, and I respected her too much to ever cross them. “Marilyn, are you alright?” I asked instead, stretching out my hand. She placed her hand in mine as I led her to the car. “Yes, I am. Thank you for coming.” Her voice, sweet and delicate as usual, but I sensed something heavie

  • Reborn to Ruin the CEO   Chapter 10 : Lonely Goodnight

My thoughts were rambling as I took small bites of my opera cake, the bitter sweet taste lingering. I needed to get him to give me some kind of hint about who this person was. “The night is still young, and we're already having dessert. Any plans for after you drop me off?” I asked sweetly, but Walter smirked, taking it the wrong way. “The night is young indeed, and if you weren't such a lady, I would assume that you wanted us to enjoy each other’s company a little more. Perhaps….at one of my lounges? I can assure you you'll be treated like royalty.” It was clear that he believed that he had charmed me. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, pushing my plate forward. “As tempting as that sounds….You’re right about one thing. I am a lady and I shouldn't be out too late” He chuckled, eyes not leaving mine. His ego wasn't bruised in the slightest and I was certain he saw me as more of a challenge. “Of course Marilyn. My apologies” He stood, tipping the waiter 100-dollar

  • Reborn to Ruin the CEO   Chapter 9: Crimson Secrets

For our date, Walter had taken me to a new restaurant that had just opened uptown. He had rented out the whole place to impress me, with just us and a waiter, in the dimly lit dining room. The atmosphere was perfect for my plan. Private. Vulnerable. He couldn’t take his eyes off of me as he sipped on his wine, and he had mentioned how stunning I was in my little red dress. I had smiled at his compliments, saying little. Although the scene was just what I needed to secure Walter’s attention, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t distract myself from the tightening in my chest. I was trying to be strong, but this felt like too much. Sitting across from the man I once loved with all my heart. In the blink of an eye, all we shared had ended in deadly betrayal and now, I was plotting his downfall. Just like that. He was supposed to be the father of my kids. “Marilyn,” he called, pulling me from my thoughts. “Are you alright? You don't seem to be enjoying yourself

I chose an exclusive rooftop bar in a quieter part of town to meet with David.Discreet, expensive, and quiet.Just what I needed. As he approached me, I found myself blushing lightly at how attractive he looked, in dark jeans and a fitted black T-shirt.He walked up calmly, taking the seat across from me, a faint smile playing on his lips.“Marilyn. I was glad when you called,” he said, his voice as smooth as ever.My heart did a leap, but I disguised my flutter, only offering a small smile.“What can I say? You were right about the fine print. Thanks for the warning.”“Did you sign it?” he asked in a low voice.“Yes,” I answered confidently as his gaze darkened.“But this time, I know what’s coming, and I intend to beat Walter at his own game.”He sighed, his expression softening.“I knew you would sign it. Although I warned you about it to help, not to stop you. I just didn’t want Walter to do anything to harm you.”His words lingered between us, and for a second, I couldn’t meet h

A week later, in my home office, I read Walter’s proposal again, line by line, as David’s words rang through my head.“Don’t miss the fine print.”My eyes skimmed meticulously over the document, my chest growing tight as I finally spotted it.A clause buried deep in dense legal jargon. It stated that in the event of my death or incapacitation, ownership of my company would be transferred to the majority shareholder. In this case, that shareholder was Walter. My hands tightened around the papers as I stared at it for a long time. That clause—that was Walter’s blade. What he used to destroy me in the past. Not only taking my life, but my legacy too.I overlooked the clause then, unaware that I was signing my death sentence. But thanks to David, I knew better now. With shaky hands, I picked up my phone, opening David’s message again.“I told you about the fine print because I’m not your enemy. I’m on your side, Marilyn. But I know someone who isn’t.”I swallowed hard, taking in the weigh
