Chapters 163–169: Becoming Mrs Ivanov

Book 2 opens immediately after Holly and Andrei's wedding, exploring what it truly means to become part of the Ivanov family.

Holly is formally welcomed as Matushka, the new matriarch of the Ivanov family, and undergoes the ancient Vow of Silence, binding herself to the family's traditions and secrets. While the ceremony symbolises acceptance, Rowena privately warns Holly that carrying the burden of the Ivanovs nearly destroyed Anya, and fears Holly may suffer the same fate.

The newlyweds finally enjoy the wedding celebration Andrei secretly planned, but their happiness is short-lived when Nikolai storms the reception. He refuses to recognise Holly as Matushka, attempts to strike her, and openly challenges the marriage. For the first time, Andrei's lieutenants choose Andrei over Nikolai, signalling that power within the family is beginning to shift.

The celebration quickly gives way to confrontation.

Inside Pinewood Manor, Sergei attacks Rowena for helping the couple marry, while Holly courageously stands up to both Sergei and Nikolai, refusing to excuse Anya's murder or be intimidated by the Ivanov patriarch.

Nikolai vows to destroy the marriage by any means necessary, threatening annulment and later revealing that Clarke Anderson still doesn't know Holly secretly married Andrei. Holly's greatest fear—losing her father's love—becomes Nikolai's newest weapon.

Behind closed doors, Andrei and Nikolai finally confront years of resentment. Andrei threatens to expose the Ivanov criminal empire if Holly is harmed, accuses his father of destroying both his mother's life and his own dreams, and promises retaliation should the Petrovs touch Holly again.

Meanwhile, Holly's conflict with her own family comes into focus. Willow accidentally reveals that Clarke intends to disown Holly, leading to an emotional confrontation between the sisters. Holly admits she deliberately hid her sacrifices (possibly losing her inheritance) from Andrei because she never wanted him to feel responsible for her choices.

Their argument eventually softens into honesty as Willow reveals the heartbreak that ended both her relationship with Amir and her once-promising art career. Before Holly leaves, Willow warns her that love can slowly consume a person and hints that Holly's lifelong admiration for their father has prevented her from seeing difficult truths about him.
