XAVIE

Despite my heart thumping nervously against my chest, my chin was high up as I cling on tightly to Kian’s arm. The party had already begun judging by the number of people lining up towards the entrance.

I hardly paid any attention when the host announced our presence, as my eyes were glued on Alec approaching us from across the room. Being in the same space as him made me nervous, it brought back memories my brain hasn’t recovered from. Taking a deep breath, I clenched harder unto Kian’s arm.

“You made it.” Alec chuckled, his eyes fixated on me even though he was addressing Kian. “I assumed you were not going to make it when I didn’t get a response.”

“We wouldn’t miss it for the world, with him being busy with Alpha duties, I wanted us out of the palace tonight, right sweetheart?” I cringe inwardly when I call him sweetheart, it didn’t sound right.

His eyes met mine, nodding briefly in confirmation to my words before refocusing his attention back on Alec.

“Ha, I know how that goes, being one myself, Annika complains I work too much.” He finally looked away from me, causing me to feel like I could breathe again.

“Annika?” I feign confusion.

“My mate, you met her previously. Once again, I want to apologize for how things went down between you two the other day. You look very similar to her sister who died of cancer recently, she hasn’t been the same since her death…I’m certain your mate understands that better than anyone.”

Feeling Kian tensed up beside me, had me glancing at him with concern. His fingers crawled into a fist while the look on his face remained neutral. Without thinking too much on what I was about to do next, I untangled my arm from his and ran my hand down his arms, a subtle attempt to calm him down.

I console myself that way so hopefully it works for him. “Oh? That’s terribly sad.” I managed to squeeze out.

Is that what they went with? That I died of cancer? Did he tell Kian the same thing after murdering his sister? The fact that he stood there, all smiley while he threw his grief back in our face!

“She died long ago, and even though we aren’t in-laws anymore, we are still allies and I hold him dear to my heart.” There was a pause as he turned away, leading the way to our table. “This way please…”

Once we settled down in our seats, Alec left us alone to attend to other guests. Wanting to check up on Kian, I turned, stopping when I saw he was busy signing something to Tint, who by the way I misgendered because of the tomboyish way she dressed. It’s one of these moments I wished I could understand what he was saying, especially with the way Tint was nodding thoughtfully along.

Once I sight  Alec, my eyes followed him across the room, watching him work his charms on his guests. The same way he had charmed me, I half mindedly reached for the bottle of champagne, only looking away to pour myself a glass.

Annika's entrance into the room made me pause, she smiled and waved prettily at the guests. The more I watched her, the more my throat closed up with emotions, a part of me still couldn’t believe she had taken the knife and repeatedly stabbed me until I was passed out in the pool of my own blood. How could they stand there and act like nothing happened after all they’ve done to me…to Kian?

Her steps flattered when she noticed me staring at her, for a split moment I could see a trace of fear in her eyes and wanting to add fuel to the fire, I waved at her. I watched as her throat worked up nervously before she stumbled across the room towards her mate.

She said something to him, something that made him roll his eyes at her and pulled her away from their guests. I couldn’t hear a word they were saying, I didn’t need to. I knew they were arguing about me and for the moment, it was enough. Taking a sip of wine while turning to Kian with the intention of telling him about my little victory.

However, I was met face to face with Tint sitting beside me. Leaning forward, I checked the other seats occupied by people that didn’t look anything remotely to him. Forcing a smile to my face, I gently tapped her on the shoulder, motioning for her to come with me.

“And where are you going? The party is just getting started.” Annika asked, appearing out of nowhere and cutting in front of me.

“Now you’re policing your guests' movements? I’m sorry, I didn’t realize we weren’t allowed to use the restroom.” I responded sarcastically, a little proud of myself for keeping it together despite my current mood.

“You know that’s not what I meant.”

I chuckled, invading her personal space by stepping closer. “You sure do a lot of things you don’t mean… am I right Annika?”

Her eyes went wide on her face as she took several steps away from me, as if I’m about to attack her or something.  “The rest room is that way.” With that, she picked up her overflowing dress and half-ran across the room to get away from me.

“Luna, you have to be more subtle or else she’s going to get more suspicious.” Tint cautioned, once Annika was out of earshot.

I glared at her. “I don’t recall asking for your opinion Tint, but since you’re so generous with sharing it anyway…then tell me where Kian is.”

“What?” Now, she’s the one getting nervous.

“Did I stutter? I’m asking you where your Alpha went and the best you could come up with is “what?” I’m not going to ask again…”

“I’m sorry Luna but Alpha made me promise not to say anything to you—” she cut herself off when I glared harder at her. “He’s in Alpha Alec study, his plan was to go through his things in hopes of finding some evidence against him.”

What? I shrunk back in shock, instincts made me look up in time to see Alec making his way up the stairs, the same floor Kian happens to be!

KIAN He knew something was wrong immediately Wolf started to bark and act relentlessly, the last time he had been this way was when they found Xavie. I scoot in front of the dog, stroking its fur in an attempt to calm him down which usually works but this time it didn’t work for a couple of minutes. “Alpha Kian.” He looked up as his name was being called, letting his men handle Wolf for the time being, he stood up to approach the man who had called him. As they shook hands, he looked around the place for any sign of Alpha Thane. “We believe Alpha Thane is still on his way here, and where is your official translator?” The other man asked, while also looking at his side. He merely smirked and shrugged his shoulders, providing no explanation and even though he could, he didn’t want to. He wasn’t here to negotiate peace, he only came to give Alpha Thane a warning and to discontinue their peace treaty. To his disappointment, Alpha Thane's vehicle pulled up next to his. When he emer

XAVIEI appreciated Kian's absence more after he left. As it turned out, even though I have never hosted any event before, I really handled everything well, approved by both Drake and Tint. The guests had started to arrive but I was more interested in two particular guests I had invited, Alec and Annika. The two were among the last people to show up, knowing Annika, she had a knack for attention and the displeased expression that crossed her face as soon as she saw me, made me smile inwardly. Who did she think they were coming here to meet? Raising my dress a little, I approached them, keeping my face as emotionless as I could muster. “Lady Nyxia.” Alec reached for my hand, placing a kiss at the back of it. Once upon a time, I found that mouth pleasurable but now? The skin where his mouth touched made my skin crawl with disgust. Withdrawing my hand from his when he still lingered, what a shameless man! Annika was basically standing next to him, not that I feel sorry for her. She

KIAN The grand hall was the formal dining hall, where he wine and dine with the most important members of his pack, like the delta wolves, the council, his Beta when he had one. After Malia's death, any desire to socialize died with her, so he stopped coming to the dining hall until tonight…He walked into the room with Xavie attached to his side, having seen how repulsed she was with the idea of pretending to be in love with him, he couldn’t wait for dinner to be over so she wouldn’t have to suffer any more of his presence. Everyone in the room seemed to pause once they became aware of their presence. They stood up as a sign of respect and acknowledgement, he pulled out a chair for Xavie then went to settle down next to her. Once they were seated, everyone took their seat too, he could hear the hushed conversations being whispered but pretend not to. Tint came in after them, after greeting everyone on the table, she sat down, her eyes moving back and forth from me to Xavie and bac

XAVIE After flower picking with Hilda, I have been pacing round the private sitting area waiting for Kian to finish with his meetings so we can have a chat about Hilda’s concern. Something needs to be done before these rumours spun out of control, to be honest, it was already spinning out of control. But then it occurred to me that we have no way of communicating with each other without Tint and if she follows us around, people will just start other rumors like we have a third or something. I collapsed on the sofa, only to rise up a few seconds later as a very brilliant idea crossed my mind. I went into the bedroom, pulling out one of the drawers I’ve seen Kian take a journal out of. I found a small journal there, several if I was being honest. I took a pen from my dressing mirror table and went back to the sitting area to wait for him. With the journal, we won’t need Tint to follow us around translating his words to me when he could just write them down and pass it over for me to

KIANA message was brought to him just as he was about to leave his study, he sat back beyond his desk, tearing open the envelope. He glanced up briefly when a knock sounded on the door and Tint strolled into the room to take a seat. He held up a finger, telling her to wait while he read the content of the letter. It came from the higher council, they wanted him and Alpha Thane to have a peace negotiation which is too bad because he was really looking forward to snapping the man’s head from his thick neck on the battlefield. He pushed the letter under a journal, turning his attention back to Tint, he motioned for her to go ahead and say what she wanted. “Okay, I understand you don’t want me involved in your plans but Malia was my best friend, you can’t keep shutting me out when I can help.” She insisted, he almost forgot how stubborn Tint can be, after all she had been friends with his sister, who was as stubborn as they come. The thought of his sister made his chest tightened, a

XAVIE When Hilda had suggested flower picking, I thought it was something fun, like stopping to smell the roses or something. But instead I was helping her examine plants and picking some herbs. I didn’t complain though, I was in desperate need of some company so I quietly did the job she assigned me. I soon noticed her frequently glancing in my direction and thought at first maybe she was worried I wasn’t doing it right but then I realised she wasn’t looking at the herbs we were picking but at me. Even though she’s pretty much the only person that talks to me around here, Hilda was still a stranger to me. “Am I doing it wrong?” I asked, pausing in the act of picking another flower. She shook her head. “It seems to me like you and Alpha Kian are going out of your way to avoid each other, the servants are talking and once they start, be sure the entire pack is going to be aware of it too.” My eyes widened at her words as I grew nervous. “I’d like to think people have something bet
