The city of New York bustled with people as I watched from the high rise building. It was almost mid morning, and the streets were as busy as ever. I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time as I listened to Marcus, my date, speak about his achievements. I was already getting bored with his incessant talking. The only good thing about this date was the location “That was how I got promoted to the position of assistant Manager. What do you think?” The pride in his voice is evident in the tone. “I think that's just fantastic, you must really work hard to have achieved a lot in such a short time,” I tried to flow with his topic. “maybe we can,” I didn't get the chance to finish before he interrupted me again. “I am aiming for the position of manager soon,” he continued. His voice became distant as I cupped my cheeks, and placed my elbows on the table. I groaned inwardly “This was going to be a long morning,” This has been my lot for the last four years, I am a successful event planner, though not as successful as others in the field, but I am content and happy with what I have achieved for myself within the years past. I grew up in a family where love and attention mattered more than the money, so I was not really bothered about not making much. Ever since my ex boyfriend, Jason broke up with me, which was actually disheartening. I decided to give love a second chance, I ended up giving love more than a second chance. My best and closest friend, Anna, introduced me to this dating app where I would meet guys, and whoever was a perfect match would hit me up so we could meet. The first time I went on a blind date, I swore never to go again. The account of the person I spoke to was catfished. We decided to meet at a park, I almost barfed when a ragged bearded man approached me. I could not believe my eyes. He even claimed he did it to get girls to meet up with him. I left in a fit of anger, Anna encouraged me not to give up. As most of these accounts could easily be catfished, so we came up with an idea of a video call before meeting, which sort of made me feel better. Since then, it had been a case of meet and break up. At one time I almost got scammed by a good looking hunk, his name was Collins, he had the sweetest mouth ever and was good at enticing. He spoke about this huge investment offer from the company he was working with, and advised me to pour my money into it. To be honest, his pitch was really attractive, I was already bought. I could have fallen a victim as well, luckily for me, my account had reached its transfer limit of the day. Collins was picked up by the cops the next day, he was a fugitive, and had scammed a number of women in different cities, before the law finally caught up with him. After that I decided to give it a break, but I didn't give up, until Marcus. The constant ringing of his phone brought me out of my reverie, I knew then that the date was over. “We should do this again sometime.” Marcus smiled at me as he hugged me tight, the scent of his cologne like burnt wood, my nose twitched as the scent hit hard. “Definitely, we will,” I held my breath a little, waiting for him to leave. He attempted to kiss me, but I turned my cheek to him instead, the feel of his mouth against my skin made me cringe. “Absolutely not,” I completed, immediately he was out of earshot. I blocked him on the app and deleted his number too. As I walked into my office building, Irene, my secretary , helped me with my bag. “How did it go?” She was among the few that knew about my dating saga. “Trust me, you do not want to know.” I replied, really exhausted She followed me to my small office, the place I was most proud of. I sat on my comforting chair and flipped the heels from my legs, grateful to be free of them. “Remind me not to ever go on a date with a banker,” I groaned. “From the way you sound, I can tell it didn't go well.” “Why did these men always appear different from their profiles, and I don't mean the looks. Their personalities are just,” I made a face to mark home my statement. “I thought you were looking for hardworking men. You know real working class men,” “He is, actually, a working class man, but I couldn't stand how he was always talking by himself. You know those kind of men, always showing off their achievements to make themselves appear important, that is a huge turn off for me.” Irene passed me a bottle of juice, I drank it with gratitude, I didn't even order anything at the restaurant. “You know what, I am done.” “That would mean giving up.” “I am not giving up on finding love, I am giving up on the app.” “I've heard that before.” Irene teased. “This time's for real,” to prove my point, I brought out my phone and disabled the account before deleting the app. “Wow, you really mean it.” “Did anything happen while I was away? Did anyone come to see me or,” I changed the topic. “There was a letter, I'd go get it.” “A letter?” I asked in surprise. “Who still sends a letter these days when you can just text or send an email.” Irene returned carrying an envelope. She slipped on the table, I opened it and read through, my lips slightly parted. As my eyes got to the end part I dropped the piece of paper and screamed.Jason’s POV“Jean, let’s catch up after my speech,” I said and left. I went up to the podium feeling a bit nervous, I didn’t know why this feeling was here but I needed Emerson now.My eyes searched around the room and I found her among the crowd. Sitting majestically, she winked at me and smiled.Immediately, I felt whole and the little nervous feeling vanished with a twinkle of an eye, I took a long deep breath and started.“Good day everyone,”“I’m excited to be here today at this incredible tech event, where innovation meets creativity. As we gather to explore the latest advancements in technology, it's essential to recognize how these developments shape our world and our future.”“Technology has transformed the way we communicate, work, and live. From artificial intelligence to blockchain, the potential for growth and improvement is limitless. It’s not just about the gadgets and software; it’s about the impact these technologies have on our daily lives and the opportunities they
Emma’s POV“I started planning this event two weeks ago, ensuring every details were just right, from the seating positions to the catering. I wanted everything to reflect the vibe in the contract I signed.”I took a deep breath, glancing around the venue which was filled with vibrant colors and the hum of conversation. “I remember when I envisioned this event,” I said to Jason and continued with a mix of pride and reflection in my voice. “I wanted to create an atmosphere that felt welcoming yet sophisticated. I spent hours researching the themes and when I finally settled for this one, it all checked into place.” I said as looked at Jason who was letting out an heartwarming smile.I smiled back and recalled the late night hours spent coordinating with different vendors. “The caterers were a bit of a challenge to me but I got the menu just right, all to make your event one of a kind.” I said and squeezed my hands together.“You really did a good job here, I really love it,” Jason said
Emma’s POVFinally, it’s the day of Jason's event. I had made all necessary preparations for the event, I had also gone there to inspect everything and made sure they were in the right order.I felt a mix of excitement and nerves as I reflected on the preparation of the event. In my point of view, I had myself thinking, I had poured my whole heart and soul into every detail of the event. From the initial planning stage to the last-minutes adjustment, I had just wanted everything to be perfect. The venue layout I had gotten from Sabrina, the decorations, and the entertainment, I had made sure every element came together seamlessly. Seeing it all come to life today, makes all my hard work worth it .I was already back home, now trying to get ready for the event, Anna also was here with me, we are both deliberating on which outfit would be perfect for the event.“This red gown is fine, Emma,” Anna stated for the umpteenth time, I really don’t understand why she likes the dress, it had
Jason’s POV“I LOVE YOU, EMERSON” I said and I had hoped she would hear before I rested down my full body weight on her, then rolled down as sleep took me into a deep slumber. After making love with her for so long, she still gets me hard anytime and anywhere.I was so satisfied, and I felt like the happiest man with Emerson.I woke up later in the night and carried her to the room I had booked for us. I watched her sleep peacefully like a baby, oh my God! She looked so beautiful without her clothes on.“Jasonnnn..” I heard her call my name but I was too tired to answer “Get up I’ll be late for work,” I heard her sweet voice again. This time I can’t say if I was angry or just disappointed that I couldn’t have her all to myself.“Can’t you stay off work today?” I snapped at her in the most polite way I could be.“You have an event coming up in two days, and you expect me to skip work, Jason?” I had totally forgotten my event was fast approaching, I’ve been so blinded with bliss and p
Jason’s POVWe got there and I covered her face to make it a proper surprise. “Jason, you’re making me curious, can you get this thing off my face, please?” I heard her say after standing there for a while, I wanted everything to be perfect.“Just a minute, Emma, don’t be eager. We have the night to ourselves, just me and you, my Queen,” I said before going to rip the cloth off her face. I watched her amused look, one thing about Emerson, she never hides her expressions.“Ohhh wow! Jason, you did all these?” She asked as she walked towards the ocean to get a better view. I finally got convinced I had done a good job here. “It’s all for you, Emma,” I said and went to get the bikini I had gotten for her. “Do you swim?” I asked her, raising the bikini up.“Ohh wow! you also got me a bikini? this is really a big surprise.”“Yes Emerson, I want to make it up to you, for all the year I left you to live alone just because I was scared of commitment, I was really selfish but now I promise
Jason’s POVI chuckled but deep down I was pinched that she didn’t trust me. Emma laughed next to me. “I knew that was why you were grumpy!” “Yes ma’am, I would. Bye ladies,” I responded as I closed the door and went over to the other side. I knew both her employee Irene and Anna were there, I had heard them whisper before the door opened, at least now I knew she had people that loved her deeply when I wasn’t there.“Hi,” I said as I settled next to her in the Lexus. She turned to face me, her heart shaped face carrying her full lips with so much expertise. “I want to kiss you,” “What’s stopping you?” She asked me and I smiled, an intentional and tummy fluttering smile. I loved her so much. I settled a light kiss on her full lips since she had given me something like a go ahead, showing she wants it as much as I wanted it, before heading for our destination. I had made lots of plans for this dinner night. I wanted it to be a remarkable one for her. I did feel sad about those night
