Marah flinched like she'd been startled when Richard called her out. She shook her head in a panic, “I’m fine, really. No need to see a doctor.”

Her voice trembled so obviously that even Adela, who was casually reading the news, looked up and gave her a quick glance. Her complexion was so pale, it was like she’d seen a ghost.

Richard asked a few more questions out of concern, but seeing her persistently shake her head, he didn’t press further.

Adela, curious, had a vague feeling something had happened. Still leaning on her arm, she glanced back at Layson’s phone screen and gave up on figuring it out.

Richard, on the other hand, looked over at the pair and didn’t frown anymore. He had to admit, Adela had a positive influence — ever since she moved into the Norman household, Layson had been coming home for dinner far more regularly. Just in the past month alone, it had already surpassed the total number of times he’d shown up over the last fifteen years.

Adela had barely read a few pages of the file when the lounge door opened. Layson loosened his tie and walked in, spotting her leaning against a folded blanket by the window. The corners of his lips tugged up into a smile."Didn’t you say you were tired? Why aren’t you lying down on the bed?” he asked as he made his way over. He sat beside her and effortlessly scooped her into his lap.He kissed the corner of her lips—sweet and citrusy from the oranges. That hint of fruit made him deepen the kiss without thinking. Her soft, sugary scent filled his lungs, nearly breaking his control.Looking at her dewy eyes, he gave her another gentle peck and murmured, voice husky, “You taste sweet. Smell sweet, too.”Her ears flushed bright red. She looked down shyly and muttered, “Didn’t you say we were going to eat?”“Mhm, we are.”He said that, but held her for a solid five more minutes before finally letting go.Once she was back on her feet, Adela grabbed her phone and casually asked, “That guy

  • Reclaiming His Runaway Baby Mama   394 So That’s the Missus

Adela stepped into the lounge with her plate of sliced oranges. She didn’t want to eat in bed, so she headed over to the window seat and placed the plate on the ledge. She glanced around for a lap tray or something to lean on but didn’t spot one. Her eyes fell on the pillows—just one. She didn’t dare take the one Layson actually slept on, so she opened the cabinet to find something else. A folded throw blanket caught her eye. Perfect. She grabbed it, folded it neatly, and set it behind her as a backrest. Then she remembered—no trash bin. She sighed, got up again, found the bin tucked under the bedside table, and brought it over.Once she got settled, she took out her phone and opened Twitter. Her finger hovered over the follow button on Layson’s corporate account. After hesitating for a moment, she clicked "Follow."She’d gone a little overboard earlier when she shut down Lucy in front of Liu from PR. It probably made her seem overly aggressive. The least she could do was follow the c

  • Reclaiming His Runaway Baby Mama   393 A PR Pro in Disguise

Adela stepped out of the CEO’s private lounge holding two neatly sliced plates of oranges. She took a quick glance around the office.Lucy was there, clutching her sunglasses with one hand. Her perfectly styled tea-brown waves hung loosely, and although her makeup was flawless, her anger had already dulled her glamour.Adela didn’t react to Lucy’s sharp glare. She walked calmly to the CEO’s desk, placed one fruit plate down, then returned to her claimed spot on the couch.Setting her own plate in front of her, Adela turned to Barnes and a man she recognized from the company’s internal videos—Liu, the head of PR. She smiled warmly. “Would you like some oranges? Just sliced them.”It was Liu’s first time seeing Adela in person. When she walked out of the lounge, he nearly thought he was seeing things. Since when did the CEO let women into his private quarters? One look and he guessed it: must be the girlfriend. Both Liu and Barnes quickly shook their heads. “You go ahead and eat.”Adela

Adela followed Layson Norman into his office, still dazed from the conversation in the elevator. She barely had time to take in the interior of the Norman Group HQ before she found herself seated on the plush couch beside him, a file gently smoothed out and placed in front of her by Layson himself. She blinked, then coughed lightly. “Alright, I’ve got it. You should go do your thing.”Layson’s voice was low and indulgent. “I told Barnes to prep some snacks. What do you feel like eating?”Adela nudged him. “Don’t worry about it. I brought fruit—want some?”He shook his head, and once he saw she was all settled, returned to his desk.Adela pulled out an orange and glanced around. No fruit knife in sight. She looked around the grand office again—elegant and understated, but with an air of power that made her movements instinctively careful and quiet. She decided to go looking. “Mind if I poke around a bit?” she asked politely.Layson, who was admiring the paparazzi photo of them from the

  • Reclaiming His Runaway Baby Mama   391 What Do You Really Want?

When Layson Norman heard the whole thing, the first thing he ruled out was “power.” That meant the investor was probably just some rich, sleazy middle-aged man with too much time and money. If it had been someone with real power, they wouldn’t even need to say anything—people would throw themselves at them. What Layson couldn’t tell was whether this guy genuinely didn’t know Adela was his girlfriend, or if he did know and was just testing him.The second that word—test—crossed his mind, Layson’s face went cold. Was he being too low-profile lately, giving others the idea they could mess with him? Or had his word lost weight to the point someone thought they could get away with provoking him?Meanwhile, Adela, hearing the word pretty, got a little shy. She clutched her handbag tighter, glanced at her reflection in the side mirror, and asked awkwardly, “So, you’re saying this investor thinks I’m... pretty?”As soon as she said it, she wanted to slap herself. Seriously? Vain much? She sta

  • Reclaiming His Runaway Baby Mama   390 Just Want to Make You Mine

The meeting room was so quiet, you could hear a page flip.Layson was lazily toying with Adela’s fingers in one hand, holding his phone in the other. He’d grunt or hum occasionally, just enough to show the person on the other end he was listening.Adela stared down at the folder in her lap, her heart pounding. Wait, that’s what the director expects from me?She thought it was just another project—turns out, Carlton had practically handed her the entire creative direction. Her stomach tightened. Innovation for a single piece? Sure. A whole series? Gulp. She snuck a glance at Layson beside her, eyes flickering with uncertainty. He pinched her hand—hard enough to snap her out of it.She gave him a glare, but the confusion in her eyes quickly turned bright and alive again. He smirked.Their gaze locked for a beat—silent sparks flying in the space between them.Carlton, the only single man in the room, sighed inwardly. Can these two just… not? He set his teacup down with a loud clink, jarr
