Camille

I opened the door to find Gareth standing there, exhaustion written across his face, still in the same clothes from the airport.

“Hey,” he said quietly.

“Hey.” I stepped aside to let him in, keeping a little distance between us instead of immediately going into his arms the way I might have a few hours ago.

He noticed. Of course he would.

“Camille, I’m sorry about earlier.”

“Is your mom okay?”

“She’s stable. I was supposed to sign the discharge papers tonight, but the doctor recommended

CamilleGareth wasn’t lying about the kissesHe kissed me like he had an unquenchable thirst for me, there was so much desire in his kisses and caresses. I moaned softly as his hands ran through my skin. He kissed me all over, making my skin shiver.“You’re trouble,” I murmured against his chest, still catching my breath.“I’ve been told.”I laughed, digging my fingers into his skin. “Mm-hmm, I can imagine. I know you’ve got a roster.”“Lips sealed,” he said laughing. He pulled the covers up, and we settled under the sheets. “Oh, you want to get—““Shhhh.” Gareth cut me off, taking my lips again in his, his hands going down on me. I hated that thoughts of Tristan sometimes crossed my mind at moments like this. It felt unfair to Gareth. But, the truth was I never had it this intense with him at least not after years into our marriage, when I gained weight all his affection stopped and I became undesirable. Sex became a chore to him and what he mostly deprived me of.Gareth on the oth

Gareth“Welcome to Vellum.” I smiled, gesturing for Marlene to take a seat.Marlene stood across from my desk, still looking around the office after our tour. She pulled out a chair and sat down.“What you have here is incredible, G. Vellum is absolutely breathtaking. The structure, the interior, everything. Just wow.”“Thank you, Marlene. It has always been my dream to build Vellum, and now we have a whole hotel chain.”“Proud of you is an understatement.”I smiled m at her warmly. Just then, the door swung open and Marcus walked in. As usual, he hadn’t bothered to knock. Being my buddy, I never thought much of it.“Well, look who we have here. Merida!”“Marlene,” she corrected, laughing. “Oh my God! Marcus, it’s been years.”Marcus scratched his head. “My bad, Marlene.” He pulled her into a brief hug. “It’s been years. What are you doing back in town?”She sighed. “Long story. Since you’re here, please help me plead with the CEO to give me a job,” she teased.“Oh, the job is already

Gareth“However you wish. I bought coffee. I’m prepared to also fetch pastries. I’m willing to negotiate terms.”She let out a soft laugh.“Fine. Sit down.” She took a sip of coffee, studying me over the rim of the cup. “Uhm, are you going to tell me what you were up to yesterday? You were gone most of the day and barely called.”I set my own coffee down, choosing my words carefully. “I had to help a friend. Someone I hadn’t seen in years reached out, and she needed my support.”“She.”“Yes. Her name’s Marlene and she flew in from Sydney yesterday.”Camille’s expression didn’t change much, but I caught a flicker of something behind her eyes. Curiosity, maybe wariness. Hard to tell.“Okay,” she said slowly. “Tell me about her.”“It’s complicated. She’s going through something really personal, and I don’t think she’d be happy with me sharing it.”Camille gave me a dry look. “I thought we could talk about anything.”“Yes. Except this is about someone’s life. I have to respect her privac

GarethI spotted Marlene the moment she came through arrivals, dragging a suitcase behind her. “Gareth.” Her face broke into a smile.I pulled her into a hug, the kind of hug you give someone you haven’t seen in years but still close to. “You made it.”“Barely. That flight from Sydney felt endless.”“I bet.” I took her suitcase from her before she could protest. “Come on. Let’s get you settled.”She walked beside me toward the car, my driver took the suitcase from me and loaded it into the trunk.Marlene glanced at me. “Thank you for this, Gareth. I still can’t believe you’re doing all of this for me.”“You’ve thanked me over a hundred times. You don't have to”She let out a shaky laugh. “I’ll try. So, we’re heading to the hotel, right?”“Hotel? No way. I have an apartment sitting empty right now. You’ll be more comfortable there, and you can get settled properly instead of living out of a suitcase. Marlene looked at me, a grateful smile settling on her face.As we drove through Pa

Camille“So how bad was it, really?” Naomi asked, curling up on my couch with a glass of wine.“Bad, Naomi. Like, genuinely intense.”“Now I want to hear everything.”“She basically interrogated me the entire dinner. Asked about my divorce, which she surprisingly knew about because I doubt Gareth discussed that with her.”“You think she made findings about you?”“I wouldn’t put that past her. She seems like someone who’d do that and more.”“Oh my God, this is actually serious.”“That’s half of it. She asked if I dated clients often, then straight up compared Gareth’s ex at one point.”Naomi winced. “She did not.”“Oh yeah she did, you better believe it. She also said something about hoping I wouldn’t let him go as easily as the last one did.”“That’s insane. She in fact is.”“I held my ground, though. I think that actually showed her …“Of course it did. You’re not easily rattled, Camille. Not anymore, anyway.”I smiled at that, some quiet pride settling in at how true it felt.My pho

TristanSasha stirred, propping herself up on one elbow and watching me.“It’s so early. Why are you leaving already?”“I have a long day ahead of me.”She frowned. “Why don’t you stay a while longer? Maybe an hour?”“I don’t really have that kind of time,” I said, pulling her away from me as she tried to make me get back into bed.“Last night was fun,” she said, her voice softer. “Have breakfast with me atleast.”“Last night was fun. But right now, I’ve got business to handle.”“You’re off to meet the woman who’s been calling all night, and you’ve been ignoring her calls.”“That’s none of your business.”I pulled out my wallet, counted a few bills and dropped them on the nightstand. “For your trouble,” I said, already heading for the door. “Tristan.”“I’ll see you around.”***I got home a little after eight.Daphne was waiting for me in the living room when I walked through the door. She looked up from the couch, her expression already telling me I was about to hear about last nig
