Simeon’s POV

The ride back from the house by the bridge had been longer than I remembered. Or maybe it had felt that way because of the weight of what Reuben had said. My hands had been clenched into fists as I had walked back to the palace. Reuben's voice still echoed in my head.

Give me the throne.

He had said the words as if he had been entitled to the throne. He had betrayed me in a way I had never imagined and I suspected that he had some of the members of my council on his side.

The thought terrified me more than losing Olivia and Jeremy. At the same time losing them frightened me.

Why had I not killed him?

It was possible that if I had done soni would never see Olivia and Jeremy again but I would know for certain that Reuben would never ascend my throne.

I could barely keep my thoughts from spiraling. Every second reminded me that my indecision would determine the fate of Olivia and Jeremy.

I entered the hallway and without a word made my way to my private study.

Olivia's POV Perhaps it was time to read Damien in on what was happening. I looked at Orion, it was his decision to make as much of this affected him. “I trust Damien. Besides, my life is at stake. The ministers are rallying behind her and there are whispers of taking me out to put her son in power,” Orion said, his voice trembling from the fear he felt within. I felt nothing but genuine pity for him. “Should Austin be present in this meeting? He is my Beta and…” “No!” Orion and I said at the same time. “What you are about to hear could get you killed,” said Orion, his tone taking on a grave note so that it was quite obvious that this was dreadful. So many people had died already and from the look of things, so many people were still going to die. “Okay, perhaps we ought to adjourn this to my study. Someone could eavesdrop on our conversation here,” said Damien, his tone bore uncertainty. We filed out of the parlour and Damien led the way to his study. When the door to the stud

Damien's POV I was still shaking as I helped Olivia off the balcony. The fact that I had arrived in time and pulled her away from Simeon’s neck flooded me with relief. I could not stop seeing the rage in her eyes, for a second I was convinced I had lost her to the rage. I had seen her fingers trembling and her body rocking from the intensity of her anger. It made me wonder if that was how she had felt years ago when I had tried to force her to abort Jeremy. It had been terrifying witnessing her deadly rage as she had held onto Simeon's neck. I did not want to imagine what would have happened if we had arrived a moment later.Simeon would be dead and she would be executed for treason. The alternative would have been that I would have to fight to keep her from getting executed but it would not just be the Blackthorne pack I would have to fight, all the other Alphas may join in too and things could get pretty ugly. There was no need to jump from the balcony this time. We passed throug

Damien's POVI knew something was off when Orion stood in front of me, blocking my line of sight from Olivia. The second I took my eyes off Olivia, she disappeared from the hall completely. I could not find her anymore, this was when I turned to Orion, my expression hard, “Where is Olivia?”He looked at me speechless for several minutes as though I had caught him in the middle of a lie. Then he blinked rapidly and replied, “What do you mean? How would I know that?”“Because the two of you are planning something together and I need to know what that is. I will not have her be in danger again,” I said, my voice tense. He looked at me for several minutes in silence and for a second I believed that I had gotten to him and he was going to tell me everything but he only laughed.“Damien, Olivia is not in any danger. Besides, how am I to know where she is?” asked Orion, shaking his head slightly. My eyes narrowed at him, I could tell he was lying by the way he slumped his shoulders. But I al

Olivia's POV The plan was simple. Orion would distract Damien while I slipped out of the ball and went into the main house to locate the place that had once been my room. I watched as Orion approached Damien who had been watching me. He had stopped following me but his eyes had never left me. The second Orion was able to divert his attention from me, I slipped away from the ballroom. I had decided that the best way to enter my room was through the balcony. It was possible that Simeon had locked my room, making it inaccessible. However, there was no way to lock the balcony, it was an open space. Besides, what I needed was on the balcony and I would not have to enter my room to get the needle. As I walked under the open sky, I took in my surroundings with the knowledge that this was going to be the last time that I would ever walk this ground. After tonight I hoped that I would have no reason to come back here. I was now beneath my balcony and when I looked up, it looked like it wa

  • The Alpha’s Banished Mate   Chapter 135

Olivia's POVWinter had come quite unexpectedly. It was the first snow in two years. I remembered when it had not snowed for the first time when it was to be expected. Then the werewolves had gathered together to appease the moon goddess, thinking that it had something to do with all the wars that had been going on among the packs. However, snow had not returned and we had started getting used to the long months with no snow. I had actually liked it because I was not one to appreciate the cold but today as snow covered the ground, I could not believe that I had actually missed the snow. “Do you really have to go?” Jeremy looked up at me, his eyes unsettled. I had told him that I was going to Simeon's palace for a ball. “I am going to be with Damien so you have nothing to worry about, okay?” I had told him because I did not want to lie to him. I was already keeping so much from him because of his safety so I felt compelled to tell him about my trip. “What do you need to say to him?

Thatcher looked at me long and hard. She had always been honest with me. She was the type to tell the truth even when it was brutal. Brutally so when necessary. She tapped her fingers against the desk for a moment before speaking again.“You cannot meet him in private. It is not safe for either of you. You could trigger him and you could get hurt.” “Then help me arrange something, please,” I begged her. I was on the verge of sounding desperate. She hesitated. “There is a ball,” she said finally. “Simeon is hosting one next week. “A ball?” I echoed. The idea of wearing a dress and smiling in a room full of people did not sit well with me. The last time I had been in a ball, I had been kidnapped. “Yes. Whatever you need to say, I think it's best you say it when there's a lot of people. I don't want you to get hurt again and Simeon is really vulnerable right now. It's the best that I can do.” “Thank you,” I said. All I needed was a way into the palace. “I still think it’s a mista
