His peaceful form warmed my heart. I was about to leave when he called out softly, “daddy?”

“Yes, buddy? You’re awake?” I entered the room and sat by his side.

“I couldn't sleep,” he replied.

“Why is that, hon?”

“I keep thinking about the day mum left me in your wall,” came his response. I had my eyebrows raised because I was not aware of such a thing ever happening.

“Mum left you in my wall?” I asked to make sure that I had heard right.

“I kept thinking the bad guys would come get me, I was so scared,” he said, his voice trembling slightly.

“The bad guys will never come for you, okay? daddy is going to make sure of that,” I told Jeremy. I knew that since the last attempted kidnap he had been traumatised by what had happened. I did not know the extent to which it had troubled him because I had been away for a long time. However, I was home now and I was going to ensure that my son got the proper care he needed to overcome his fears.
