“As you know Mrs. Vert, Psychiatrists are different from psychologists, I will be finding the reason for these behavioral changes through means and decide if he needs, medication options, referrals for psychotherapy, level of care needed, for example, if more intensive care is needed to appropriately address Jason’s symptoms, options to find an appropriate treatment program will be discussed. Any recommended labs or procedures such as baseline tests before starting medications or tests to rule out any possible medical conditions that may contribute to symptoms.” Luna explained thoroughly, some parents think psychologists and Psychiatrists are the same, and she ought to clarify what she does. Although Luna has the ability and power to be assigned to the psychology department, she preferred being a psychiatrist more.

“When did this start? I will have a thorough check with him and see if he has any problems then look if this behavior is caused by a sickness or he is just undergoing problems that we don’t know. I can not assure you that we can cure him, but I will look into it.” Luna said.

“So, Mrs. Vert, I will be needing a complete list of medications, in addition to psychiatric medications, a list of any and all psychiatric medications little Jason might have tried in the past, including how long he took them for, Jason’s medical concerns and any diagnoses, family history of psychiatric issues, if there are any, if you please just fill in the sheet I have given you while I talk to your son. If you excuse me.” She excused herself and the child to the observation room connected to her office and offered the child a seat before she started interviewing him.

“Hi there Jason, how are you feeling today?” Luna sat in front of his little chair so that they would meet eye to eye. Sometimes, children need to be alone so that they will have the courage to talk about their problems because most children fear their parents have the inability to say what they truly feel, and that is why Luna isolated herself and Jason from her mother.

“I am okay, there is nothing wrong with me,” Jason said, his face held sternness even at the tender age of 12 and yet Luna could see through his vulnerability.

“I see, I guess you are indeed okay, so why did the woman bring you here?” Luna referred to Jason’s mother as a woman to see how he will react, unlike other psychiatrists, Luna tends to see things through both the behavior and reactions of her patients before going down to his medical history and possible illnesses.

Luna calmly conversed with Jason who little by little started to get comfortable around her, it appears that Luna was right, the problem is not the child, it’s the mother.

“What did she do?” Luna suddenly asked, she tried to divert his attention with snacks and toys, and Jason, like a normal child, picked up some toys he liked and started fiddling it around.

“She suddenly gets angry and bashes around, after they fought with Dad. It was pretty crazy, the woman is mental. I heard a loud bang and then complete silence, it was a deafening silence that I wanted to go out to check but before I could do it, she pounded my door and told me to come with her.” Luna scrunched up her brows and looked over to see if Jason had any bruises, and he indeed had some if you look closely at his wrists and arms.

Jason slightly trembled and bit his lower lip, reluctant to say what happened next.

“It’s okay, take your time.” While Jason gathered his courage, Luna ringed the bell that is connected to her assistant and alerted him to call the stand-by cops instantly.

It won’t be a problem since the cops here are forced to wear regular clothes so that it wouldn’t be a problem if some traumatized patients see cops in their uniform.

“She thought I just woke up and heard nothing, she told me not to look at anything except the door, but I could see from the side of my eye that-” Jason flinched at the sound of the voice of his mother, he tried to burrow his face at the table and pretend he was doing nothing. Luckily Luna acted calmly and pretended nothing had happened.

“Excuse me, Dr. Valentine, will this take too long? You see Jason here is quite a good storyteller, so you might think that some of his stories are-” Luna looked over to Mrs. Vert could see exhaustion from her eyes, so like fear.

“I do appreciate your care for your son, but as the one in command here, I hope that you can let me do my job properly without any disturbance,” Luna said frankly.

Mrs. Vert nodded her head meekly but Luna saw through her actions when Mrs. Vert landed her eyes on Jason and the clear warning she gave him didn’t miss Luna’s eyes.

“You may leave.” Mrs. Vert closed the door and Luna stood to lock the door and pick up the remote connected to her office door, she pressed the lock and gave Mrs. Vert had no chance to leave once she realized what had happened, besides the police could easily enter from the outside with Luna’s permission.

She is the only one who had this door since she requested this after she accepted their proposal to be the head psychiatrist and surgeon of the hospital.

“Don’t worry, she won’t know or hear anything from there, you are safe with me.” Jason was struck dumb and as if on cue, his eyes started to rain tears, he muffled his voice and covered his face with his palm as he pitifully cried, mourned.

“That woman killed my father, a-after they fought, she pushed him down the stairs and he hit his head. We could have saved him but she said he had a problem. She took me from my room and I could see my father taking his last breath with his eyes telling me to run.” he plopped on the table and weakly hugged himself, Luna patted his back and said nothing, in this case, it is best to listen. And she won’t hug him since she does not like skinship and he clearly rejects it as well.

“Now, she wanted to put me in a mental hospital so she could take all the money Dad left me.” Jason spilled everything and Luna effectively had the police take Mrs. Vert who was screaming and thrashing.

Luna helped Jason calm down and then assisted him out of the room, back to her office.

“My people will be there for you to help you with everything, if you need my help, you can always call. She won’t bother you anymore, is there anyone who can take care of you?” Luna asked while she offered a glass of cold water to him.

Jason nodded his head and drank the water calmly.

“My Aunt is already crippled but I know that she would la=ove to have me, she was the one who took care of me whenever Dad was away and that woman would leave me at home so she could play.” Luna nodded her head, a small smile plastered on her lips as she wished him a better life from here on out.

She watched Jason leave with the police and one of the hospital aids that Luna trusted before she sat back on her reclining chair and waited for her last patient for the day.

Luna finished her work effectively before 4 pm and left to prepare for the party she has to attend. Luna had completely no idea that once she attended the party, she would be in grave danger and everything would start to change.

It only takes a glass of drugged wine for everything that she thought was normal to start to go the drain.

Luna went back to her house and went through her closet that had clothes that she could count in one hand. Luna thinks its a waste to buy clothes she won’t even wear so the only ones she had most is 20 pieces of clothes she could wear at home, 10 pair of clothes she would wear outside that varies between short shirts, sleeveless shirts, jackets, pants, and skirts while she could barely remember the last time she bought a new one.

She opened the box that had been at the bottom of the closet for years, it had 2 dresses that she could wear at the party.

One was a long-sleeve cocktail black dress with a small cape at the back that looked like silk. The other one was a cream-colored one-piece tube dress-pant with a cream coat. Luna does not have a closet just like those bonafide princesses who only know how to spend their money left and right, it is not that she lacks money, she just thinks it was not necessary since she would wear her uniform anyway. The only clothes she has that go over 20 pieces are the ones she wears at the office.

The people at the restaurant knew that she is not one who likes shopping and besides whatever Luna wears, it always looked good on her.

She picked up the black dress and put on some simple tint on the lips and eyeliner, she didn’t bother wearing eye shadows on since it was a hassle in her opinion.

Luna planned to stay for a couple of hours there and leave, her presence is not much important since it’s just some parties like all the other ones. Although there are hundreds and thousands of people who want to have a connection with her to ensure their safety if something ever happens to them, a talented surgeon like Luna has their backs.
