Chapter 9 :Two wealthy individuals competing in a bidding war

The foolish often end up at a disadvantage.

Sebastian gave a slight smile to van Dijk, pretending to be polite.

"Thanks, buddy. I'm Sebastian."

Seeing this, van Dijk felt a sense of superiority, but he maintained a polite demeanor on the surface.

Just as he was about to exchange some pleasantries and then move on to his grand plan, Sebastian hastily said, "I've got urgent business to attend to, so I'll be on my way. We can chat another time."

With that, he disappeared from sight.

Leaving van Dijk with his mouth agape, the words he intended to say were left hanging in his throat, unspoken.

"Young master, that guy is too disrespectful!" one of his subordinates remarked.

Van Dijk's face alternated between pale and flushed, but he quickly smiled.

"Maybe he really had something important to attend to. His attitude was still decent, and he's definitely skilled. It's normal for skilled people to have their quirks. Let's make a connection first. We don't need to rush; he'll serve us sooner or later."

After completing the task, Sebastian immediately returned to the village and went back to the weapons shop.

After turning in the task items, Sebastian received a letter.

That's right, this letter was what he needed, the key to joining the sect, the so-called opportunity that the weapons shop owner had mentioned.

But obtaining this letter required some thinking; it wasn't as simple as having a casual conversation.

What kind of sect's letter you received depended on the weapon you had chosen earlier.

If Sebastian had chosen a sword, then it would definitely be the Sword Sect's letter.

He had asked the weapons shop owner, and so far, he was the only one who had received this letter task from the weapons shop. Others had no clue and were still looking for tasks at various places, such as tailors, the village chief, butchers... even cats and dogs.

All they received were mundane tasks that, at best, improved their cultivation a bit and earned them a few pieces of silver.

They hadn't even considered why an immortal cultivation game had them doing a bunch of mundane tasks.

It would probably take a few more days for most of them to figure it out.

Sebastian didn't want to stay here any longer; he was heading for the immortal path!

With the letter in hand, he was prepared to leave the village.

But before leaving, Sebastian had one more thing to do.

He walked to the busiest area in the village.

"Come and see, tears in my eyes as I give it away! Want to become stronger? Need equipment? The server's first Green Snake Bow up for auction, the highest bidder wins! Come and take a look..."

In the middle of the village, Sebastian took out the Green Snake Bow and loudly advertised it.

In this newly opened game, very few players could obtain equipment, and even if they did, they were unlikely to part with it.

So when Sebastian made his announcement, a large number of players gathered, curious about the bow's attributes.

Sebastian generously displayed the attributes of the Green Snake Bow, including its poisoned arrows.

Upon seeing this, the onlookers were wide-eyed. This equipment was incredibly strong! A +2 strength bonus was impressive, but what really stood out was the poisoned arrows that could inflict continuous damage and even stack.

"Brother, how much are you asking for it?"

"No price, name your own."

"I don't have any in-game currency; can we do a cash transaction?"

"Sure, I only accept cash, not in-game currency."

Sebastian nodded, feigning a bit of regret. "If it weren't for my mother-in-law in TX saying she won't marry her daughter without money, I wouldn't be willing to sell it!"

Nobody paid attention to Sebastian's so-called mother-in-law from TX; they were only interested in bidding.

"I'll offer five hundred!"

"I'm offering a thousand!"

"One thousand five hundred!"

"One thousand eight hundred!"

Quickly, the price escalated to over five thousand.

However, Sebastian remained unperturbed and even bored enough to sit down and listen to them bidding.

The commotion of the auction grew, and soon, more people gathered around.

Among them, a group of female players arrived, all of them exceptionally beautiful.

The leader of this group was particularly stunning, with phoenix-like eyebrows, delicate features, short ear-length hair, an exquisite figure, and an outstanding aura.

As soon as these women appeared, they captured the undivided attention of all the male onlookers.

Such a scene with a multitude of beauties was every man's dream.

Now that they could see it with their own eyes, no one could resist taking a few more glances.

This group of women approached Sebastian, with the short-haired woman in the lead, gently saying, "Fifty thousand."

When she shouted out fifty thousand, everyone who had been bidding moments before fell silent.

Sebastian's eyes lit up; this price was quite reasonable and just right.

Just as he was about to complete the transaction, another group of people arrived, led by none other than the guild leader of the Eternal Alliance, van Dijk.

"I'll offer sixty thousand."

Gasp!

Everyone took a deep breath. It was just a beginner's piece of equipment; did it really warrant such intense competition?

After van Dijk called out his price, he smiled warmly at Sebastian. "Sebastian, my friend, what a coincidence to meet again."

Sebastian responded with a fake smile, which van Dijk couldn't see, and remained cheerful.

"I heard you're selling this equipment to get married. How about this? I'll cover the cost of your wedding. Let's be friends."

Sebastian rolled his eyes; he shouldn't have used that excuse.

"No need. A gentleman doesn't live off another's plate. I'm only willing to sell my equipment, and I hope you understand, Mr. van'

"Understood, Sebastian, you have ambition, and I, van Dijk, appreciate people like you. This bow is just what our guild members are looking for, so let's not be polite."

Van Dijk said with a smile, as if he had already considered the bow as his own.

The short-haired woman standing nearby had some initial concerns that Sebastian might give in to van Dijk's influence. However, when she heard Sebastian's response, she relaxed and continued to bid without giving van Dijk any chance for an easy victory.

"Seventy thousand."

“One hundred thousand ," van Dijk was unyielding as well.

”two hundred thousand ."

Unexpectedly, the short-haired woman was not one to be underestimated. She seemed to be intentionally competing with van Dijk.

Van Dijk's face showed a slight change, not because he couldn't afford the money but because he wanted to understand the reason behind this fierce competition.

"Two hundred and five thousand," van Dijk stated, then turned to the short-haired woman with a smile, "I wonder which guild this beautiful lady is from. I'm van Dijk, the guild leader of the Eternal Alliance."

This statement surprised all the players present. The Eternal Alliance was well-known in the gaming world, a renowned gaming guild. The backing for the Eternal Alliance, the Eternal Group, was one of the top twenty conglomerates in Asia.

Upon hearing this, the short-haired woman appeared unperturbed and, instead, calmly said to Sebastian, "Can you wait for me for two minutes? I'll make a call to consult with my boss."

Why not accept the money that's offered on a platter?

Sebastian readily agreed, paying no mind to van Dijk's changing expression.

The short-haired woman immediately went offline on the spot, but her subordinates remained, waiting.

Sure enough, in less than two minutes, the short-haired woman returned, not showing any signs of backing down. In fact, she increased her bid.

"Five  hundred thousand."

The entire crowd was astounded.

Goodness, this was just a beginner's piece of equipment, and it was selling for five hundred thousand? That was outrageous!

Van Dijk, who had been trying to remain calm all along, could no longer keep up the pretense.
