Chapter 3: Waking to a Stranger’s World
Nora’s POV My eyes fluttered open slowly. A sharp ache spread through my body, but something soft cradled me. Where am I? I blinked, trying to focus. White walls. A small room with a window letting in pale light. I tried to sit up. Pain flared in my ankle. I bit my lip and leaned back. Suddenly, a soft knock came at the door. The door opened quietly, and a woman walked in. She smiled gently. “Ah, you’re awake. Good.” I looked at her, confusion clouding my mind. “Where… where am I?” I whispered, my voice weak. The woman stepped closer. “You’re safe here,” she said. “I’m the healer.” I frowned. “Who… who brought me here?” She paused, then answered, “The Alpha.” “Alpha?” I repeated slowly. She nodded. “Yes. His name is Axel. He found you in the forest.” My heart jumped. Axel? The man I had never met… the stranger who saved me. I tried to remember what happened after I ran away. The forest. The rogues. That powerful man who appeared out of nowhere. I looked at the healer again. “What… what kind of man is he?” The healer smiled faintly, but there was sadness in her eyes. “Axel is the Alpha of this pack. The strongest, the most feared.” I swallowed hard. “Feared?” “Yes.” She nodded. “He is cold. Hard. Since he lost his mate, he barely speaks to anyone.” I blinked, surprised. “Lost his mate?” The healer’s eyes darkened a little. “Yes. Her name was Lilian. He loved her deeply. But she is gone.” I felt a strange ache in my chest. The woman continued, I could remember him calling Lillian, so? “The Alpha doesn’t help others often. He is focused on the pack and protecting it. He doesn’t show kindness easily.” I bit my lip, thinking back to yesterday. He wasn’t cold when he saved me. Not at all. But now, I was here, in his world. A strange place that didn’t feel safe at all. I looked at the healer, my voice trembling, “Will he come back?” The healer shook her head gently. “You are in the pack house, though not near the Alpha’s quarters or his room. It’s safer here for now.” I looked at the healer, my voice trembling, "Will he come back?" The healer slowly shook her head. "You are in the pack house, though not close to the quarter or is room." I felt a shiver slither down the back of my neck. "Should I… stay here?" I whispered. She sighed and nodded. "For now, yes. Safer than being out there by yourself." I nodded slowly. The healer took out a small bowl and some cloth. "Let me disinfect your wounds and change your bandages." I didn't move, the chill of the cloth against my skin making me shiver. She finished and stepped closer, her voice low. "Listen carefully, Nora. Axel is not someone to be underestimated." I glared up at her. "How did you know my name?" She smiled gently. "The Alpha told me to watch you. And you're lucky he saved you at all." I gulped down a hard swallow. "Why am I fortunate?" "Because Axel never helps anyone. Not even women. Since his mate died, he's been alone." I recalled the male who had saved me. Hard, taciturn. Unlike the sadistic Alpha who had rejected me beforehand. But in this place, I was not safe. The healer made one final warning. "Keep your back covered, Nora. Make no mistakes. You don't want to be a thorn in the Alpha's side." I slowly nodded, fear crawling into my heart. The healer stood up and moved towards the door. "If you need something, call for me." I was left alone, staring at the white walls. My savior who saved me was the most feared Alpha in the land. And I was trapped in his frosty world.Chapter Ten: In His ArmsNora’s POVI shut the door behind me and leaned against it, my chest heaving. My cheek still burned where his mother’s hand had landed. The Luna stole slid from my shoulders onto the floor, but I didn’t bend to pick it up. I couldn’t. My knees were too weak. My heart too heavy.I sank down against the wall, curling into myself. The voices still echoed in my head, omega, disgrace, shame, Cynthia.I pressed my hand over my mouth to stifle the sob that broke free, but another followed, and another, until the tears poured hot and endless down my face.A knock came at the door. Firm. Steady.“Nora.” His voice. Axel’s.I froze, my throat aching.“Nora, open the door.”I shook my head even though he couldn’t see me. My voice cracked. “Please… just go.”Silence for a moment. Then another knock, sharper this time. “I’m not leaving you like this. Open it.”My fingers dug into the fabric of my dress. I couldn’t face him. Not after what his parents said. Not after they sp
Chapter Nine : The Shattered MomentNora’s POVThe silk of the Luna stole shimmered faintly under the golden light of the sitting room. I stood before him, my heart racing as though it would tear through my chest. Axel adjusted the fabric gently across my shoulders, his touch careful, almost reverent.“You look…” His voice trailed off as his eyes lingered on me, deep and warm. “Like the Luna you were meant to be.”My lips trembled, but I smiled anyway. “And you… look every bit the Alpha.”He wore his Alpha attire tonight, a robe woven with symbols of strength and leadership. My fingers, unsure at first, lifted to straighten the clasp near his chest. His hand brushed mine, and I felt the strength of him beneath the fabric, the steady beat of his heart.“By next week,” he said, his voice calm yet firm, “I will hold a ceremony. I will announce you as my Luna before everyone.”The words sank into me like sunlight breaking through storm clouds. For so long, I had been unwanted, unworthy, a
Chapter Seven: The Luna’s ChoiceAxel’s POVI hadn’t expected her to appear so boldly. The door creaked, and there she was—Nora—standing in the doorway, her eyes unwavering, her expression resolute. No words. No hesitation.Just a single, quiet declaration:“Alpha Axel, I am ready to be your Luna.”My chest tightened. Her words should have been simple, harmless. But seeing her like this—vulnerable, trusting, offering herself to me in a way that no one ever had—sent a surge of heat through my body I hadn’t felt in years.I forced myself to look away, to breathe, to remember who I was. Alpha. Protector. Guardian. Not a man who lost himself in desire. But she… she made it impossible. She stepped closer, taking off her clothes without a word, letting the fabric fall to the floor like she was stripping away not just her garments, but every fear she had carried, every hesitation. Every wall she had built around herself crumbled in my presence.I swallowed hard, trying to steady the storm ri
Chapter Seven: Whispers in the ShadowsNora’s POVI stayed pressed against the shadows, barely daring to breathe. Every word from the room beyond the door clawed at my nerves, sharper than any blade.Axel’s voice was steady, low, and unwavering, but there was an edge to it, quiet fury, determination, a promise I could feel even from here.“…Axel, the pack expects you to choose a Luna. Tradition dictates it,” one elder’s voice cut in, cold and precise. “Without a Luna, your position is… vulnerable. Instability could follow.”“I work to be the Alpha,” Axel replied, calm but firm, almost defiant. “I won’t let anyone else take this role. And being Alpha isn’t about having someone by my side . I will lead the pack, with or without one.”There was a pause, thick and tense, like the room itself was holding its breath. Then another elder’s voice, sharper this time, like steel on stone: “Tradition is not optional. The pack’s faith wavers when rules are ignored. Someone must stand beside you, o
Chapter Six: The Quiet After the StormAxel’s POVShe finally slept.Finally.Her body curled against the couch, soft and fragile, trembling every few seconds as though the nightmares of her past hadn’t fully released her yet. I didn’t move. I didn’t dare. Not a sound. Not a single twitch that might wake her.Her hair fell across her face, hiding the traces of tears, but I could feel the tension in her shoulders. The scars along her arms, her sides, the marks across her back—they were more than just injuries. They were pieces of her story. Pieces of the girl Kade had tried to break, pieces of a life filled with lies and cruelty.I clenched my fists, rage simmering low and steady in my chest.Alpha Kade. The thought alone made my teeth ache. How could someone so vile, so… twisted, ruin a child’s life and have the pack believe it? That she was the criminal. That she was the manipulator. That she was… dangerous.I had been fooled too. And for that, I hated myself. But not anymore. Not wh
Chapter Five: When He Saw Me Nora’s POV I thought I could leave. I thought if I just ran fast enough, far enough, maybe no one would notice I was gone. But I was wrong. Because before I could reach the edge of the woods, a voice cut through the silence like a blade. “Where do you think you’re going?” My heart stopped. My whole body froze in place as I slowly turned around. Axel stood there, tall and angry, his eyes glowing faintly in the moonlight. The way he looked at me made my chest tighten. He wasn’t just angry. He was furious. “Did you think you could lie to me and just walk out like nothing happened?” he growled, stepping closer. “You think you can leave when your secrets have been exposed?” I took a step back, my voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t mean to—” “Don’t lie to me again, Nora.” His voice was sharp. “The guards told me. You had dealings with the elders. You’re not just some fragile stray.” “That’s not true,” I whispered, tears alread
