The words echoed through the ruined Grand Hall like a death sentence.

> "She remembers the night you murdered your father.">

Every sound disappeared. The warriors froze mid-step, the Alpha Council stared in unblinking shock at the hooded stranger, and even the raging battle outside seemed to vanish beneath the crushing weight of the silence.

My knees weakened.

The memories... they were coming back. Not all at once, but in sharp, fragmented pieces of a nightmare I had spent five years trying to piece together.

Smoke.

Fire.

My mother's scream.

My father's roar.

A shadow moving through the flames.

I clutched my head as another sharp pain shot through my skull. "No..." I whispered, my voice trembling. "I can't..."

Buck instinctively stepped toward me, his hand reaching out to steady my shaking frame.

Before he could reach me, Damon roared, "Seize him!"

Silver Moon warriors immediately surrounded the hooded man, weapons drawn and sharp steel glinting under the flickering torches.

The stranger didn't move. Instead... he laughed—a low, mocking sound that rattled the hall.

"You still solve every problem with blood, Damon."

"I said seize him!"

The warriors charged.

The hooded man calmly raised one hand, his fingers twisting into a strange sign.

BOOM!

A powerful blast of energy exploded from his palm, sending the nearest warriors flying backward into the stone pillars lining the hall. Gasps erupted throughout the chamber.

Bobby’s expression darkened. "Magic..."

The stranger slowly pulled back his hood. He wasn't old, nor was he young; dark hair streaked with silver at the temples framed a hard jawline, and a jagged scar crossed his left eyebrow. Most striking were his eyes—one a deep brown, the other a brilliant, luminous silver.

The same shade that now glowed faintly in my own.

The moment our eyes met, my heart skipped a beat. Why did he look so familiar?

"You..." The word escaped my lips before I realized I was speaking.

He offered a sad, worn smile. "You've grown so much, Athena."

"I... I know you?"

"You don't remember fully yet."

Damon's face twisted with pure fury. "You should be dead."

The stranger's smile vanished. "You've been trying to make that happen for five long years."

A wave of intense murmurs swept through the Alpha Council. Buck's eyes cut back and forth between Damon and the stranger. "You know him."

Damon remained silent, his jaw clenched so hard his muscles strained.

"I asked you a question, Grant." Buck's voice thundered through the hall, his Alpha command heavy and suffocating. "You've lied since we arrived. You lied about Athena, you lied about the rogues, and now you expect this Council to believe you don't know the man standing in front of us?"

Damon slowly turned to face him. "This internal pack matter does not concern Ironclaw."

"It concerns every single Alpha in this room," Buck countered, refusing to back down. "Someone attacked an Alpha Summit. Someone used forbidden magic. And someone has hidden the truth for five years." His piercing blue eyes locked onto Damon's. "I intend to find out who."

For the first time since the summit began, Damon looked completely cornered.

Ravi quietly moved closer to Bobby Nash, keeping his hand near his blade hilt. "Do you recognize him, Bobby?"

Bobby nodded slowly, his eyes fixed on the man. "I've seen him once... years ago."

"Who is he?"

Bobby's expression grew deeply grim. "If I'm right... that is Captain Marcus Grant."

Ravi frowned. "Grant?"

"The former captain of Silver Moon's Royal Guard."

My breath caught in my throat. Grant. That surname... it belonged to my family.

The stranger looked toward Bobby, his silver eye gleaming. "I'm impressed, Alpha Nash. You still remember me."

The hall erupted into confused, overlapping whispers.

Buck turned sharply to Bobby. "You know this man?"

"Only by reputation," Bobby replied, never taking his gaze off Marcus. "He was fiercely loyal to Alpha William Grant."

My father's name. The moment it was spoken, another buried memory struck me like a physical blow.

> A tall warrior laughed as he lifted me onto his broad shoulders.

> A small wooden sword.

> Sweat and dust during morning training in the courtyard.

> A warm, gravelly voice saying, "One day you'll protect this pack, Little Star.">

I gasped, my hand flying to my mouth. "Marcus..."

His silver eye softened completely. "You remember."

Only a little, but it was enough. Tears blurred my vision as I took a tentative step forward. "You taught me how to fight."

"I did."

"You used to carry me... when I was little."

Marcus smiled sadly. "Every morning down to the training grounds."

A heavy lump formed in my throat. "You disappeared after that night."

"No," his expression hardened into ice. "I was hunted."

My eyes widened. "Hunted?"

Marcus slowly turned toward Damon. "The night your parents died... I tried to save them. I arrived too late; the manor was already burning. I fought my way inside the inferno and found Alpha William."

A painful, agonizing silence gripped the hall.

"He was dying," Marcus continued softly. "And before he drew his last breath, he placed something in my hand."

Slowly, deliberately, Marcus reached beneath his dark cloak. Every warrior in the room tensed, their fingers tightening on their hilts. But instead of drawing a blade, he pulled out a small leather pouch—old, cracked, and heavily blackened by smoke.

Buck narrowed his eyes. "What is that?"

Marcus held it carefully, as if it were made of glass. "The last thing your father entrusted to me, Athena."

My pulse quickened wildly. "My father?"

Marcus nodded. "He made me swear an oath on his dying blood... that no one would see what was inside until you remembered who you truly were."

Damon suddenly shouted, "Kill him!"

Without warning, Beta Lucas lunged forward with a roar, his heavy broadsword raised high to cleave Marcus in two.

Marcus reacted instantly. Steel clashed with a deafening ring, sparks flying across the marble floor. Lucas attacked again—a wild, furious overhead strike—and then another. But Marcus defended every blow effortlessly, his movements fluid and precise.

It wasn't even a fight; it was a demonstration.

Within seconds, Marcus twisted sideways, catching Lucas's crossguard and stepping into his guard. Lucas lost his balance, stumbling forward as his sword flew from his hand and skidded loudly across the stone.

Marcus's gleaming blade stopped a fraction of an inch from Lucas's exposed throat.

The entire hall stared in stunned, breathless silence.

"You've become slow, Lucas," Marcus said calmly, his breath steady. "Or perhaps..." He glanced toward Damon with sheer disdain. "...you've spent too many years bullying helpless servants instead of training as a true warrior."

Lucas's face burned with deep humiliation as he froze beneath the blade.

Damon's rage finally exploded, his Alpha aura crashing through the chamber like a shattering wave. "You dare insult my Beta in my house?!"

Marcus lowered his sword with slow indifference. "I've only just begun." He turned to face the high Alpha Council. "I have spent five years gathering evidence in the shadows. I have names. I have witnesses. I have proof."

The leather pouch remained tightly clenched in his hand.

Buck took one step forward, his voice steady. "Show us."

Marcus looked at me—not at Buck, not at Bobby, but directly into my eyes. "The truth belongs to Athena. I will only open this... if she asks me to."

Every pair of eyes in the Grand Hall turned toward me.

The small leather pouch suddenly felt heavier than any weapon in the room. Whatever lay inside had the power to tear down my brother... or destroy what tiny fraction remained of my family forever.

My hands trembled violently as I slowly reached toward Marcus. The instant my fingers brushed the weathered leather, the knot slipped loose.

A single, folded parchment letter slipped from the pouch and fell onto the cold marble floor.

Across the front, written in my father's unmistakable, bold handwriting, were six words that made my heart stop beating entirely:

> To my daughter, if I die.>
