Amelia's POV.

Someone's hand fisted in my hair and my head snapped to the back. Pain shot through my scalp and I gasped.

“Please….. let me go” I pleaded, my voice filled with desperation. Tears blurred my vision, falling from the corner of my eyes.

Why me?

They dragged me back to where I was before I ran, my body scraping against the floor.

“Where do you think you are going, pretty?” They asked.

“Please…..” My voice cracked. “Just let me go”

“Not so soon, pretty,” one of them said.

“We promise we will let you go….” He paused. “After we are done with you”

The way they looked at me with their eyes filled with lust made the realization hit me.

I shook my head violently, my hand flying over to my stomach. “No…. Please just let me go”

My baby….. they are going to hurt my baby.

“What is a pretty girl like you doing in the woods, huh?” The man with the bottled water from earlier dropped down beside me, his hand caressing my face.

My face twisted in disgust and my eyes shut close while tears spilled down from them relentlessly.

“Don't touch me….” My voice was low, breaking into sobs.

They laughed. “What did you just say?”

The man beside me grabbed me and that earned a scream from me as I tried to resist him.

I tried to get his hands off me but he was stronger, making it impossible.

He tried to yank my clothes off me and I cried, thrashing against him.

“Get your hands off her!” A cold and commanding voice cut through the air, echoing through my ears.

Everything stopped, including the rogue's hand that moved on my body. My face snapped to look at who had spoken.

A man was standing a few steps away from us, his hands by his side, his face darkened and a wolf snarling within him.

The rogues blocked the path leading to me and the one beside me scoffed.

“And who the hell are you?” He growled. “This is our territory”

“Get. Your. Hands. Off. Her” The stranger repeated, his voice more dark and hoarse.

The rogue's face twisted in anger and he stood from my side, moving to the stranger.

“Fuck, who are you?!” He growled.

“Leave” The stranger didn't reply, his eyes only moved around the three of them as he gave another command.

“Are you fucking kidding with me?” The rogue tried to step closer to the stranger, but his voice through the air again, making him stop.

“If you make me repeat myself one last time” His voice was cold, commanding. “You'll have yourself to blame for the rest of your life”

The rogue was going to reply again, but the others didn't let him talk before they grabbed him.

“Idiot! Let's just leave as he had said!” The first one whispered.

“He's Alpha Zayden! You don't want to cross him!” Another panicked.

Fear flashed across their eyes and they dragged themselves away until they disappeared into thin air.

I breathed out in relief, jaws getting slagged. Just like that, my body gave out and I slowly gave in to darkness.

“Hey, are you okay?” I felt someone's hand on my shoulder but I was too weak to process. Hands wrapped around my body and I felt myself getting lifted up the ground but soon… I couldn't feel anything, all that enveloped me was darkness.

My eyes fluttered open and I looked around everywhere, trying to process where I was.

A chandelier hung above my head, too bright for my weak eyes. My head was dizzy, my whole body filled with pain.

“What happened to me? Where am I?” I muttered slowly, looking around everywhere. My eyes turned to the right in the process and they landed on a man seated on a chair beside me.

I creased my face and sat up on the bed, staring at him with my face filled with confusion, eyes filled with panic.

“Who are you? Where am I?” My voice shook slightly.

“Don’t move” his voice was low, commanding in a way that made me fall into silence.

“You are in Blackthorn pack, and you are in my room” he said.

Blackthorn pack was a very well known pack amongst the packs, and they were sworn enemies with moonlight pack. The alpha of this pack and Jace were more like rivals.

“You've been unconscious for two days,” he added.

I snapped my face up to him in shock. “Two days?”

“You were exhausted.”

I sighed deeply and looked away from him to examine the room. When I turned back to look at him, I suddenly found it hard to take my face away. Something snapped inside me, shifting all the way.

“Mate!” She growled.

My eyes widened at the shock of hearing a voice roar to life inside me, and also at the word she had just uttered.

My wolf was awakened….

For years, I couldn't talk to her. Nothing happened, everyone believed I don't have a wolf, even I believed that.

“You are my second chance mate” The man in front of me said calmly.

It wasn't a question, it was a fact we had both realized.

“There is a mistake somewhere” my voice shook slightly. “I don't want a mate”

“You can't go against the moon goddess,” he said, more like a warning.

“Who exactly are you?” My voice was weak, barely able to form words.

“I'm the alpha of this pack” He revealed. “Zayden Briggs”

My body stiffened and my eyes blinked. I didn't know what to do, thinking the alpha of the blackthorn pack had been chosen as my second chance mate.

“No, I mean…. Yes” I stuttered. “You are the alpha”

“Thank you for bringing me here, but I should leave now” I tried to stand up from the bed but a sharp pain hit my stomach and made me fall back to the huge bed.

My baby…. Was the baby okay?

Alpha Zayden squeezed his face as his eyes lingered on me. His expression changed into a mixture of surprise and anger.

“Some bastard rejected you while you were pregnant for him?” Anger was evident in his tone and the way his fists curled surprised me.

Was he concerned about me right now?

“I'll get the healer” He stood up and walked to the door, barking orders at someone before he returned.

Not long after the healer he talked about arrived, she was made to examine me. She turned to the Alpha. “The babies are fine, Alpha”

I breathed out in relief but then processed her words. What did she mean by babies?

She turned back to me and smiled. “You are carrying twins”

The words didn't register at first but when they finally did, my eyes widened in shock. Those were Jace's babies but he rejected them as he had rejected me.

Silence came after the healer’s words but the silence did not last forever as it was broken by a voice from outside.

“Alpha, there's a situation,” someone reported.

“What is it, Taylor?” Alpha Zayden asked, his face snapping to the side.

“Alpha Jace of moonlight pack is here” The report continued and my blood ran cold. “He's demanding for his mate”

My eyes widened, fear suddenly crawling up my skin. Alpha Zayden's face turned to me, darkened and filled with shock.

“You are Jace's mate?” His voice was etched with disbelief. “And you are carrying his babies?”

Words suddenly left my throat but I knew Jace was here to take me back to his pack and that scared the hell out of me. He would tell me I didn't sign the divorce papers, didn't accept the rejection and that means I was still his.

“Bring her out, Zayden!” Jace's voice echoed from the hallway. “You don't get to take what's mine!”

My breath hitched.

At that moment, I knew……

I would be getting forced to return to the prison I had crawled out from.

"There," Mara said. Something in her voice that was not typical of her clinical assessments. Warmer. The amber eyes, if I had been looking at them, would have been doing the thing they did when something she had been working toward was arriving.I was not looking at them.I was turned inward, holding the warmth steady, listening to the second child moving toward the world with the purposeful, final quality of something that has found its direction and is following it."Amelia." The nurse's voice now. Coordinated with Mara, the two streams of guidance converging. "With the next contraction I need you to push."I opened my eyes.Zayden.Right there. Hand in mine, face at the edge of everything he was feeling, voice ready to be whatever I needed it to be."I need—" I started."I know," he said. Before I finished. "I'm here. I've got your hand. Breathe first."I breathed. The contraction built."Now," the nurse said."You're doing it," Zayden said. Simultaneously, the two voices layering

  • Rejected By Him, Claimed By Another Alpha   Chapter 109 — The Second

Amelia POV The first cry was still in the room. Not literally — the sound itself had ended, had been replaced by the organized, purposeful sounds of the medical staff attending to the first child with the efficient care of people who have a job to do and are doing it. But the first cry had changed the room in a way that persisted after the sound itself stopped, the way a stone dropped in water changes the surface long after the dropping. Everything in the room was different for having contained that sound.I was different for having heard it.There is no preparation for it. I want to say that clearly because I had done considerable preparation — months of it, the most thorough preparation that a person who takes preparation seriously can do. I had read everything. I had talked to Mara. I had listened to the internal frequencies of both children for so long that their presence was as familiar as my own heartbeat. I had thought about the moment of their arrival with the full, careful

"I read," he said. Of course he had. Zayden, who brought thoroughness to everything that warranted thoroughness, who had apparently spent some portion of the quiet months reading about what his mate was going to experience and what would be useful in the experiencing of it. "Everything?" I asked. "Everything available," he confirmed. The cracking continued. I want to be honest about that because honesty is what I have committed to in the telling of this, and honesty requires acknowledging that the next several hours were the most physically demanding thing I had ever done, which is a statement that has significant competition given the year I had just lived through. The blood was working. I could feel it — the deep, ancient current running at an intensity that the training had pointed toward but never fully reached, the lineage doing what it was built to do in the conditions it was built for. The children were active in the way Mara had described, participating rather than passi

The calm did not leave all at once. That was the thing about it — I had expected, in the abstract planning of the months of preparation, that if the calm broke it would break clearly. A defined moment. A line crossed. Before the breaking and after the breaking, distinguishable from each other. It did not work that way.It left in layers. The first layer went sometime in the third hour, which was when the contractions had established themselves with the kind of authority that makes the word contraction feel insufficient — too small, too clinical, too much a word designed for a training room description of a process rather than the actual experience of the process from the inside. The breathing was still working. The blood's warmth was still running, still being directed with whatever intentionality I could maintain. But the effort of both simultaneously was beginning to show at the edges.I was still calm. But the calm was working harder than it had been. The second layer went when the

He had barely let go of it since the bedroom."Alright?" he asked."Alright," I said. The first hour moved with the particular quality of managed progress. The contractions were establishing their rhythm with the increasing authority of a process that has decided on its pace. The medical staff moved in and out of the room with the organized, purposeful efficiency of people who are monitoring multiple variables simultaneously and have systems for the monitoring that do not require drama to function.Mara positioned herself at the foot of the bed and conducted her own parallel assessment — the reading that went deeper than the medical instruments, that tracked the frequencies of what I was carrying and communicated what she found in the quiet, economical shorthand we had developed over months of working together."Both strong," she said, at the end of the first hour's assessment. "Both ready."I nodded. I knew. I could feel it — the two distinct presences that had been familiar to me fo

Amelia POV The walk had been good. That was the thing I held onto afterward — the two blocks had been exactly what I had needed them to be. The cold air and the quiet street and both hands held and the particular quality of moving through the world at three in the morning when it belongs to itself. Zayden's arm around me and Reyna's steady grip and the pavement beneath my feet and the sense of arriving under my own power at the place the night required.I had been happy. Not despite everything — not in the qualified, conditional way of someone extracting happiness from a situation that would not normally be described as happy. Genuinely, fully, in the uncomplicated way that sometimes arrives when all the complicated things have been resolved into their simplest form and what remains is just the truth of the moment.I was having my children. My children were healthy and extraordinary and had been fought for by everyone who loved them and had arrived at this night despite everything t
