Rejected By My Husband, Desired By My Doctor

EvelynI lay motionless on the bed, my eyes fixed on the large window across the room. The curtains were partially drawn, allowing thin streams of afternoon sunlight to filter into the bedroom. The buzzing sound from my phone vibrated repeatedly from the lampstand beside the bed, but I didn't move or even glance at it.I simply continued staring at the window, feeling hollow.Adrian hadn't come home yesterday… again. At first, I had convinced myself he was busy, and probably angry or hurt. I had called countless times, sent messages, voicemails, everything.Yet every call went unanswered. Every message remained unread. Until finally, after persistent attempts, he finally picked up… or rather, Doris did."Mr. Adrian is very busy at the moment," she had said smoothly. "He won't be able to answer your calls."At the time, I had been too stunned to respond. Too stunned to ask why she was answering his phone, and ask when exactly she had become the person screening his calls. After that, I

Evelyn Adrian stood frozen in the doorway for only a second before his voice tore through the room.“What the hell is going on here?”I flinched so hard the movement pulled at the fresh stitches across my abdomen. Damien’s arms loosened around me immediately, but he did not pull away completely. He stayed seated on the edge of the bed, one hand still resting lightly near my shoulder, as if he were ready to steady me if I needed it.Adrian’s eyes locked on that hand. His jaw tightened until the muscle jumped.“Get the fuck away from my wife,” he said, each word sharp and low.Damien rose slowly, calm as ever, and turned to face him.“Mr. Parker, your wife just came out of major surgery. She needed support. That is all this is.”“Support?” Adrian stepped further into the room, letting the door swing shut behind him. “You were holding her like she belongs to you. I walked in and found another man with his hands all over my wife while she was lying in a hospital bed. Don’t stand there an

EvelynJust when I was ready to make another move toward ensuring Damien was going to be fine, he finally turned up. He came back into the room in the early afternoon looking tired, but there was a quiet steadiness in the way he carried himself as he closed the door behind him.“The board finished their discussion,” he said, walking over to the side of the bed. I held my breath. “They are keeping me on your case.”“Oh dear.” I let out a slow breath. Relief mixed with something heavier settled in my chest.“I figured you…” He paused, as if unsure of his choice of words. “I figured you put your word out there for me.”I didn’t have to answer. There was no need to take credit as though I had done anything. I had only tried to fix the problem I had caused.“Thank you for speaking up. Not every patient would have done that.”That was just the thing… He was not just any doctor. We talked for a few more minutes about the recovery plan. He kept the conversation practical and calm, never pushi

EvelynI stared at the unknown number for a long time before I finally called it back. My side still ached with every breath, a deep, stubborn pain that refused to settle, and the argument with Adrian from the day before sat heavy in my chest. The line clicked after two rings.“Mrs. Parker,” a woman’s voice said. It was low and careful. “Thank you for calling.”“Who is this?” I asked. My hand tightened around the phone. “How do you know about the debt?”There was a short pause. “I used to work at the clinic under Dr. John. I handled a lot of the administrative files for long-term patients. There are things in your records that never sat right with me. Irregularities, that’s the best I can call it. I cannot say more over the phone.”My stomach turned. The pain in my abdomen flared as I shifted on the sofa. “What kind of irregularities?”“Not over the phone,” she repeated. “It would be better if we met. Somewhere public. I will text you a time and place. Come alone if you can. What I ha
