Chapter Forty Eight – Liam's POV

He messed up

I sat on the cold floor of my room, my back against the wall, my head buried in my hands. My whole body trembled as silent tears ran down my face.

I messed up.

I messed up that badly.

Cara had been pure all this time, and I let them ruin her.

I let my mom and Vanessa lie to me. I let them turn me against her, to make me believe that she was this scheming traitor when she just survived.

My fists clenched as fresh pain ran through my chest.

I had hurt her. I had pushed her away. I had stood there and let them turn her out.

And now… she was gone.

The worst part?

I had no idea where she was.

Would she ever forgive me?

Would she even want to talk to me again?

Guilt was eating away at me.

I pinched my eyes shut as my wolf growled in my head, restless, full of guilt. He wanted Cara. He needed Cara. But I'd lost her.

Because of my own stupidity.

A sob tore past my lips.

I deserved this pain.

I deserved worse.

I didn't realize I was pounding my o

Nothing more. But my body didn’t agree.Every time I saw him, I felt my heart race. My wolf stirred, eager, restless, purring at the sight of him. It was as if my body had been marked by his touch, and now, I couldn’t escape it.So, I avoided him.I kept my distance, looking anywhere but at him whenever he was near. I kept my hands busy, forcing myself to act normal. But Damon wasn’t letting me escape so easily.Every time I turned, his golden eyes were already on me, watching. Studying. Amused. And the worst part?He knew.He knew exactly what he was doing to me.A Distraction That FailsThe pack meeting was supposed to be a distraction. The patrol team had spotted rogue wolves too close to the borders, and now, the pack was gathering to discuss the threat. Chapter Fifty : The Breaking PointLiam’s POVI sat alone in my room, my heart heavy, my mind racing. The pain in my chest felt unbearable, like something inside me was breaking apart piece by piece. I had spent the entire night thinking about Cara, about everything I had done to her, about how I had failed her.I had believed lies. I had let my mother and Vanessa manipulate me.And now, she was gone.Tears burned at the edges of my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. A warrior wasn’t supposed to cry. An Alpha-to-be wasn’t supposed to break. But what was the point of all my strength if I had lost the only person who mattered?A sudden knock on my door made me jerk up. My heart pounded.“Come in,” I said, my voice hoarse. One of my men stepped inside, looking hesitant, almost nervous. I frowned.“What is it?” I asked. He swallowed hard, then finally spoke.“We have news about Cara.”My body went completely still. My heart stopped.I shot up from my chair, my breathing uneven. “Where?

And he had seen me kissing Damon.I couldn’t even look at him. But I felt the anger radiating off him, thick and suffocating. His fists were clenched, his jaw tight, his golden eyes burning with an emotion I couldn’t name.“Cara…” His voice was hoarse, almost broken. “I—”I cut him off before he could say anything more. “Why are you here, Liam?” My voice was cold, steady. It took everything in me to keep it that way.He stepped forward, but Damon immediately blocked his path, standing between us.Liam glared at him but didn’t attack. “I came for you, Cara,” he said, his voice laced with desperation. “I know the truth now. I know everything.”I scoffed, crossing my arms. “And what truth is that?”“I overheard them,” he said quickly. “Vanessa and my mother. They set you up. They lied

Those children were mine. But she was slipping away from me, and I didn’t know how to bring her back.I kicked a rock on the road, frustration boiling in my chest. My wolf was restless, growling inside me.Then suddenly, I heard footsteps ahead.A man stood at the side of the road, his face hidden by the shadows of the trees. He looked tired, like someone who had been traveling for days without rest.I narrowed my eyes and slowed my steps. Something felt strange. The man turned and looked at me. “Excuse me,” he called out.I didn’t respond immediately. Instead, I studied him. His clothes were worn out, his shoes covered in dust. And since when did you become a doctor?”A muscle in his jaw ticked, but his eyes never left mine.“You think you’re strong enough?” His voice was low, dangerous. “Where exactly do you plan to go?”I frowned. “What does that mean?”Damon stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. “Back to Liam? Chapter 159 – A Glimmer of HopeSophia's POVThe walls that closed in around me were damp, cold, and cracked. I was on the floor in the corner of the empty room, my arms sore from having them tied behind my back for so long. My ankles were scraped and bruised. The ground was hard. The air smelled of dust, mold, and old paint. It was the kind of place you leave people to be forgotten. But I wasn't forgotten. Not yet.I hadn't eaten for a day—maybe two days. My lips were dry. My stomach growled in pain, not just hunger. But I didn't eat the food they'd brought before. I couldn't. Every bite would be like giving up. And I wasn't ready to quit.Suddenly, the door opened again.I looked up, expecting Cara to enter and taunt me for my misery. But it wasn't her.It was Caleb. He entered quietly, holding a small tray. On it was a piece of bread, a small bowl of scrambled eggs, and a bottle of water. He set it down quietly next to me, kneeling to my level."You have to eat," he said softly.I

My eyes had been on the same line for the past five minutes. My mind wasn't calm. Not since that message came.Alec Davis — the name that had been so important to Sophia. Her favorite author. The one author who had written stories that had comforted her when the world had been cruel. Now that same author wanted to meet her in person. Alone.I didn't care for it. Not at all. It was strange. It felt too abrupt. Too personal. And something in the message… it had my wolf unsettle with unease.Just then, the door to our bedroom opened.Sophia stepped out. She wore light jeans and a soft cream-colored sweater. Her hair was brushed back neatly. She looked beautiful, but her face carried excitement, like a child about to meet her hero.“Damon,” she said gently.I turned in my chair, eyes meeting hers.“I’m getting

My black trench coat was enveloped around me, heels of shoes sinking delicately into sodden ground as I went deeper into the trees. The moon was silver, distant, cold—like I am tonight.I'd given the message to Caleb hours ago. He responded right away."Same location. Midnight."This is the time I need Caleb the most, I know he doesn’t like Damon, and this is the time for me to act like I care about him.I smiled as I walked towards the small cabin hidden at the edge of the border, a place that only the two of us knew. A place that was filled with tired memories, lust, lies… and now, a new plan. The door was already open before I could knock. He stood there, big and broad, still with that same obstinate look he always had. Caleb. My history. My instrument."Cara," he said coldly. "What are you doing here?""
