Scarlet’s POV
I didn’t know what this was, but whatever the Moon Goddess had planned, I wanted no part of it.
Without a second thought, I walked out on everyone, ignoring the growing murmurs behind me.
“Scarlet!” Damien called after me, but I didn’t respond.
I didn’t know where I was going. I just knew I needed to get away.
The Moon Goddess had to be insane, pairing me with someone like him.
Just then, his hand caught mine and spun me around. My body trembled as his fingers brushed against my waist.
“Let me go!” I snapped, yanking at his grip, just as we both lost balance.
He stumbled backward, losing hold of me, and in the process, tripped my leg. I fell straight onto him—lips to lips.
I stared at him, stunned, then tried to scramble away, but his grip tightened.
“Let me go, Damien!” I shouted, pounding against his chest, but he held on firmly.
His brows furrowed, then softened into an amused smile as he finally released me.
“You see me as some kind of monster?” he asked, standing up and offering a hand.
“This is how you thank me for saving your life?”
“I never asked you to do anything,” I said coldly. “So thank you, and now can you please sever the mate bond already?”
“Seriously? Are you kidding right now? Do you even understand what the Moon Goddess—”
“Damn the Moon Goddess!” I screamed, barely keeping my temper in check.
“Do I look like I give two fucks about her? Huh?” I spat, tears burning beneath my eyes.
I shut them tightly before speaking through clenched teeth. “Where was she when my friend Kayla was screwing my mate?”
“Scar—”
“Save it!” I snapped, cutting him off before he could say another word.
I didn’t care what he or the Moon Goddess had to say.
I was done being the fool who trusted too easily.
Done being the naive girl everyone used and tossed aside the moment I wasn’t convenient anymore.“I’m not going to be your Luna, Alpha Damien,” I said, wiping away the tears streaming down my cheeks. “And it’s obvious your pack agrees with that.”
Before I could leave, Callan and Emma appeared, both of them looking at me with what could only be pity.
I didn’t mean to be rude, but the pain eating me from the inside wouldn’t let me pretend.
I wasn’t healed yet, and this proposal? It was too much.
I couldn’t, and wouldn’t, accept it.“You can all find someone else to be your Luna. I’m not taking part in this twisted prophecy you think the Moon Goddess gave you!” I shouted, turning to leave.
“Scarlet, wait!” Emma, the pack doctor, called after me, but I didn’t look back.
“I just need some air,” I muttered, pushing through the stunned pack members and shutting the door behind me.
And then I heard it.
Voices, their whispers. Each of them is talking about Kayla and Alex. My name slipping off someone’s lips like poison.
“She took her best friend’s mate,” someone said. The words stopped me cold in my tracks.
“Seriously? How does she still look so innocent after that?” another voice added, full of venom.
“I think she just wants to be Luna by any means necessary.”
And then, the final blow.
“She’s a whore.”
“Whore!”
They all echoed it. Like a chant.I turned around slowly, facing the palace once again.
Fists clenched. Face burning.
No more tears. Just rage. I let out a scoff in disbelief. Storming back inside, I headed straight to Damien.
Just as I flung the door open, I stood in front of him. My breath fanned his face.
Wiping my face, I said clearly, “Help me get revenge on Kayla and Alex… and I’ll reconsider being your Luna.”
Scarlet’s POVJust then, she let go of me and turned toward the door.It was only when her fingers brushed the handle that I found my breath again… and a sliver of nerve.I knew I didn’t have to say it, but I said it anyway.“I’m not interested in Damien,” I muttered, forcing the words through my throat. “You can have him.”She froze. Her back stiffened, lips drawn into a thin line.“I can have him to myself?” she repeated slowly, like she wasn’t sure she heard right.“Yes,” I said. “I don’t want anything to do with him.”She turned slightly, enough for her eyes to catch mine. “But… you’re his mate, aren’t you?”“Yes.” The word caught in my throat. I swallowed the rest of the ache it brought.“And the mate pull? You think he’s really going to let you go?”“Eight spaces,” I said quickly. She blinked. Confused.“What does that even mean?” she snapped, voice cracking from exhaustion and disbelief. She was trembling. Her entire body looked like it was about to collapse. Truth be told, sh
Scarlet’s POVAs soon as the door opened, my eyes landed on her, the strange woman. Her gaze flicked from me to Damien, and back again. She wasn’t trying to hide how pissed she was.I could tell right away. She wasn’t okay with this. Not one bit.Damien stepped forward, tension rippling through him. His voice came out sharp.“Shouldn’t you be sleeping? What are you doing here?”But she ignored that.Instead, her eyes locked on the contract form in my hand. Then she looked at me like I was the problem.“Are you really going to pick her over me?” she asked, voice flat, but her expression screamed jealousy. And honestly? I could understand why. She’d just been with him brutally. The scars were still fresh on her skin. Deep. Bleeding in some spots, barely healing in others. Her wolf hadn’t even caught up yet.I forced myself to look away. The whole air in the room had turned heavy, too thick to breathe in.But Damien wasn’t letting it slide.“I said…” he growled, fists curling tight. “Ain
Scarlet’s POVAll through their argument, I stayed close—but not too close.I made sure I didn’t breathe too loudly, didn’t shift too much. I just… listened.I stared at the contract in my hands, then back at the door every few seconds. I heard Damien growl at one point, and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. I almost opened the door. But I didn’t.Sounded like they’d already calmed down, and so I tiptoed quietly back to my room. The whole time, I kept my eyes on that contract. Line by line, I flipped through it, reading every word like my life depended on it, because maybe it did.I didn’t just skim it. I studied it.By the time I reached the end, I picked up the quill, ready to sign, until something caught my eye.One rule stood out: You are to stay eight steps away from me whenever we are close.I blinked. Read it again.Eight steps?I tried not to overthink it. But the voice of that strange woman, the one who’d been screaming earlier, still echoed in my head.Still haunting
Damien’s POVI pulled out of Aurora the moment I hit my peak. Knotting all over the floor like some damned beast before dropping back into the throne, breathless.I growled low, the pain crawling up my spine. My chest rose and fell fast.Aurora was barely moving.Claw marks. Blood. Everywhere. She looked wrecked, like the curse took more than her body. Her chest still rose, but just barely. She was still alive.I pulled my shorts back on and stood, not looking back at her.To the guards, I said, “Clean her up. Give her a warm bath. Make sure she lives.”“Yes, Alpha,” they responded without hesitation.I left.I tried reaching Callan through the mindlink. Nothing. No connection.I asked around, and no one had seen him. Not even Scarlet. Then one of the maids whispered something. Said she saw both of them heading into a room near Callan’s.That was all I needed.I didn’t knock. I don’t need to knock. This palace is mine.I pushed the door open. There they were.Callan is holding the co
Scarlet’s POVI could hear the bodies slamming, hard, rhythmic. Then came her voice, the strange girl I’d seen earlier. But it didn’t sound like pleasure. It sounded like pain.I froze, fists tightening. My heart raced so fast I thought it might tear through my chest. What the hell was going on in that throne room?I stopped walking when I heard Damien’s howl. Loud. Wild. Echoing through the air like a warning. The entire pack… the entire damn world around me felt off. Heavy. Like a storm was coming. The aura that spread out wasn’t normal. It was dark, thick. My legs almost gave out. And then—“Looking for something?” a voice said behind me.I turned quickly, startled. It was Damien’s beta.“The Alpha—”“Follow me,” he cut in, walking off before I could finish.I hesitated for a second… then followed. But I couldn’t stop glancing back at that door. Her voice—still screaming. Still echoing. He led me down a hall and into another room. Then, without warning, he pulled me in and shut th
Damien’s POV She was panting, her chest rising and falling hard as she reached for my hand, stopping me mid-motion.“Damien…” she whispered. Her voice was soft, hesitant, but she didn’t pull away. I had tried to avoid her for days, yet she kept coming. Showing up like some ghost I couldn’t shake. What the hell was I supposed to do?Pretend I didn’t want her when she kept throwing herself at me? Heart, body, everything? And now that I was finally giving in… she looked like she couldn’t even handle it. Pathetic.“Damien…” she said again, but this time it came out more like a moan than a plea. She wasn’t backing off. Wasn’t running. She wasn’t stopping me. She was surrendering. Permitting me.But I couldn’t do it.I couldn’t tear her apart just because I was aroused and angry and desperate. I’m not going to kill my mate because of lust. With a clenched jaw, I dropped my hand and took a step back.My cock throbbed painfully inside my pants, screaming for release. I needed to bury myself
