Damien’s POV
“Listen, everyone,” I continued, my fist raised to signify silence.
The Moon shining at its peak was something that had occurred a long time ago in this part of the world, after the curse was placed on me.
But suddenly, upon Scarlet’s arrival, everything changed.
The sick were healed, and even the lame walked miraculously. This wasn’t just an ordinary thing.
Scarlet is more of a blessing than a mate. But she seems so hurt and pained by what her mate had done to her.
How was I supposed to convince her to be my Luna when she had raised these walls around her?
Just as I saw her amongst the pack members, her blue doe eyes never leaving mine, almost caused me to trip over my feet while addressing the pack members.
“The Moon goddess has finally smiled on us after many years.” I addressed them and stretched my hand towards Scarlet.
I honestly don’t have a clue how this love story is about to begin or how it was written. But it’s worth giving it a try.
“What are you doing?” My Beta, Callan, whispered into my ears, leaving me startled almost immediately.
And right now, I just lost my confidence.
“Are you really going to ask her out in front of the whole pack, Alpha Damien?”
I rolled my eyes in frustration, staring at the pack members who were waiting for me to say something.
My breath hitched as I clenched my fist, trying hard not to show my weakness in front of my people.
I’ve never done this before in my life. Asking a woman out in front of my people.
However, yes, this is the way it must be done if I want the curse to be broken once and for all.
“Have you forgotten what the moon goddess said about getting my Luna if I really want the curse to go away?” I turned towards Callan, my breath fanning his face.
Well, Callan is more of a brother than a beta. So we are always like this.
“But you haven’t even spoken to her. I mean…” Callan paused with a smug look on his face. “I thought the last thing she said to you was that she wants to run away from this pack–”
“Can you just allow me to do this? I’m the greatest Alpha. Have you seen me? No girl has ever said no to me. I’m irresistible.” I replied proudly.
Callan, on the other hand, stepped back with a shrug. But the look on his face says something else.
I inhaled deeply, controlling the rate at which my heart was pounding–one that I could even hear in my ears.
“I want to introduce someone to us.” I started, signaling Emma to push her forward.
“Her name is Scarlet.” I started, beckoning for her to come forward.
“Scarlet, can you do a brief introduction of yourself to my people?” I raised a brow, my face doing the rest of the talking.
“Go on,”
She cleared her throat as if knowing what I was up to. Tension filled the air as everyone went silent.
Turning to look at me at intervals, and back to the crowd, she started. “My name is Scarlet Underwood.”
“It’s nice to be here with you all. I hope you’ll treat me well,” She concluded, bowing her head alongside.
I smiled softly, walking towards her, and I wasted no time in sliding my hand inside hers.
Gripping her hand gently, my eyes trailed down to her face, and back to the pack members.
“The sign we saw today was because of Scarlet Underwood,” I explained, and murmurs filled the air.
Small talks, and something that seems more of a disapproval, which I couldn’t wrap my head around.
“It appears that Scarlet Underwood is my mate, and my Luna,” I announced, and everyone burst out in disagreement.
“We won’t have someone from the MoonClaw pack be our Luna!” One of the elders barked, and everyone supported almost immediately.
And before I could speak, just like Callan had predicted. Scarlet broke loose from my grip.
Yanking her hand off, she turned towards me in anger. Her eyes darted back to the pack members. “I will never be a Luna to a heartless Alpha! Even if he’s the last man on earth.”
Scarlet’s POVAs the ceremony dragged on, I could feel Aurora’s eyes burning holes into my skin. She hadn’t stopped staring—not once.It wasn’t curiosity. It wasn’t even jealousy anymore. It was rage. Cold, coiled, bitter rage. She looked at me like she wanted me to vanish from existence. And she wasn’t alone.Callan’s glare matched hers. So did most of the pack members seated below the dais. They weren’t celebrating. They were judging. Measuring me. Hating me.And yet here I was, seated on the Queen’s throne. The gold crown still felt too heavy for my head. Like it knew I didn’t belong here.I let my eyes drift over the room, but my thoughts were far from the celebration. They slipped back to Kayla and Alex, two people I had once called family. What were they doing now? Laughing on a honeymoon in some cozy cabin? Twisting the knife deeper by mocking me, reliving how pitiful I must have looked when she’d shown up and claimed Alex?My jaw tightened.“Scarlet,” Damien’s voice pulled me
Scarlet’s POVI scoffed, staring at him in disbelief. Callan had the nerve to offer me a deal after I’d just severed our bond. The audacity almost made me laugh.A smile crept across my face, but it wasn’t out of joy—it was bitter amusement. What exactly was he trying to do? Was this some kind of twisted game?“You know,” I said, folding my arms across my chest, “I really wonder how Damien managed to keep you this close without realizing how greedy you are.”“I’m doing this for you, Scarlet,” he said, as if that would excuse everything.“For me?” I let out another scoff, sharper this time. “I didn’t ask you to. I can take care of myself, Callan.”I turned away, not wanting to see his face any longer.“If you don’t have anything useful to do, you can go back to your post,” I added, dismissing him like the conversation was over. But Callan wasn’t ready to let go.“You really think I’m going to give up on you just because you got lucky enough to sever the bond?”I clenched my fists at my
Scarlet’s POVThe moment we were dismissed, I headed straight for my chamber. I just needed space. A moment to breathe. But I didn’t get far before I heard her voice behind me.“Go back to your pack, Scarlet.”I froze.Aurora’s tone was laced with venom, and her footsteps echoed against the cold floor as she approached. I didn’t turn around. Just exhaled slowly and kept walking.“You don’t belong here. Isn’t it obvious?”I stopped again, rolled my eyes, and took a measured breath before continuing forward.“You’re not welcome here, Scarlet,” she called louder. How did she know my name already? Then again, it was obvious. People had been whispering about me since I arrived. I didn’t need a wolf to know that.“I’ll leave when I’m done,” I said without looking back.“When?” she shot back, sharp and impatient. “When are you done?”My jaw clenched. I could already feel my body tensing, fists curling at my sides.“As soon as I’m done,” I answered, trying not to snap. Her presence drew close
Damien’s POVI stood at the head of the dining table, hands loosely clasped behind my back as the maids moved around, placing dishes one by one. The clink of cutlery, the scent of roasted meat, everything was in order. Quiet. Almost too quiet. Then Aurora’s voice cut through it.“Seriously? You didn’t tell her?”I didn’t even need to turn. I knew it was her. I closed my eyes for half a second before replying.“You’ll speak with respect, Aurora.”She let out a short, humorless laugh. “Respect? From me? That’s rich.”Her heels hit the floor harder than usual as she walked into the room. I turned toward her. Her cheeks were flushed. She looked ready to burn the entire palace down with her eyes alone.“So, what is this?” she asked. “You’re actually making her Luna? Is that what we’re doing now?”I didn’t answer right away. Not because I didn’t know what to say, but because behind her, standing half in the shadow of the hall, was Scarlet. She was quiet. Watching. Listening.Aurora hadn’t
Scarlet’s POVEveryone went silent.Callan just raised his brow at me, smirking like I was some child playing pretend.I took a few steps back, waiting for something—anything—to happen after the rejection. But nothing came.He stepped forward, cocky as ever, his eyes locking on mine.“You see yourself, cutie?” His voice was low. Mocking. His hand reached out like he was about to touch my face again.I flinched and turned my head.“You look cute,” he chuckled. “But next time, don’t pull stunts you don’t understand.”He moved to the door.“You can’t reject me, baby,” he said without looking back. “Only I can do that.”And then— It hit.A deep, guttural growl shook the room. Callan stopped. His hand dropped from the doorknob. He gasped suddenly and stumbled, grabbing his chest like something inside him just snapped loose. Then he crashed into the door with a loud bang before falling flat to the floor.I froze.“What’s happening?!” I whispered, my voice trembling.Callan writhed on the g
Scarlet’s POVJust then, she let go of me and turned toward the door.It was only when her fingers brushed the handle that I found my breath again… and a sliver of nerve.I knew I didn’t have to say it, but I said it anyway.“I’m not interested in Damien,” I muttered, forcing the words through my throat. “You can have him.”She froze. Her back stiffened, lips drawn into a thin line.“I can have him to myself?” she repeated slowly, like she wasn’t sure she heard right.“Yes,” I said. “I don’t want anything to do with him.”She turned slightly, enough for her eyes to catch mine. “But… you’re his mate, aren’t you?”“Yes.” The word caught in my throat. I swallowed the rest of the ache it brought.“And the mate pull? You think he’s really going to let you go?”“Eight spaces,” I said quickly. She blinked. Confused.“What does that even mean?” she snapped, voice cracking from exhaustion and disbelief. She was trembling. Her entire body looked like it was about to collapse. Truth be told, sh
