Chapter 4

A dark sinister smile spread across the Alpha’s face and his hands released the reins. He hopped down from the horse and strode to the spot where I was standing.

“Then…” His hands slowly reached for mine. “Will you be my Luna?” He whispered.

I smiled lightly and nodded, “Yes.”

Nathan looked like he would give up the ghost at any moment, his eyeballs became large and bloodshot, his hands became pale and his knuckles turned white. Alpha Xander faced my parents and they bowed, each having a smear of fright on their faces.

“I have chosen your daughter to be my Luna, I hope you have no problem with it?” His eyes shot up in mischief as he asked.

My parents cannot oppose the decision of the Alpha, no one can.

“But…” My father trailed and swallowed hard as he glanced at me in confusion.

“But?” Xander arched his brows.

“We accept her decision,” my mother cut in. Melsa gasped and Areola winced in tears. Alpha Xander ignored their reactions and faced me, stretching out his palm.

“Let’s go, my love,” he muttered.

I felt a chilly sensation gush through me as I placed my hands into his.

The new phase of my life has begun, I don’t know how to explain what is happening, but for the first time in my life, I feel myself doing the right thing. I can’t help but imagine what my life in the castle will be like, but life is all about risk and I must take those risks to have a life.

I packed my little belongings into a box and handed it over to Melsa.

“I will always come around to visit,” I said and walked to the door.

“Do you think you’re doing the right thing?” She asked, her voice was almost like a ghostly whisper.

“I have no doubt,” I replied, she sighed and shrugged, muttering that ‘it is my choice.’

Alpha Xander was leaning on his horse, sighing repeatedly as he glanced severally at his hand. When he saw me, he beamed and trudged towards my direction. Before I could blink an eye, he swept me into his arms and placed me carefully on his horse. My heart seized beating when his cold hands wrapped around my limp waist as he reached for the horse’s reins, he pulled his body closer to mine and unintentionally teased my neck, heart, and belly with his hot breath.

The horse gave a neigh and swiftly turned around, I couldn’t glance back at my family, the people who had ever loved me. I had my eyes fixed on a direction I didn’t know, a direction that must predict the kind of risk I was taking.

The ride to the castle was slow and steady, it was also an uncomfortable ride with the Alpha’s body glued against mine and his hot breath achieving wonders inside of me.

We finally arrived at the castle and were welcomed by a stream of smiling unfamiliar faces. I never tried to let go of the Alpha’s wrist as we marched into the castle. The Alpha stopped and whispered something to Nathan, he nodded, threw a glance at me, and scurried away.

Alpha Xander led me to the topmost part of the castle, I looked down and my jaws dropped at the sight of the large multitude below.

“Great members of the Dark Moon Park,” he shouted, and silence befell the crowd below.

“I want to introduce you all to the park's Luna, Elena Cyrus!”

Murmurs broke out in the crowd and I felt my body hitting up.

“She is an Omega?” A voice shot through the crowd. My heart leaped and I glanced at Alpha Xander, a dark cloud took over his face as the remark was made, his eyes darkened and his lips pouted in anger.

“Who said that?” He muttered, anger laced in his voice. The girl was dragged out and she bowed, shivering, I recognized her to be one of the gamma girls I met at the gate the day I accepted Nathan’s rejection.

“Forgive me, Alpha,” she trembled. I felt a sudden flow of anger as she pleaded.

Alpha Xander glanced at me, and said, “You will become her servant from now henceforth.”

I stared shockingly at him, forgiving an insult so easily is something an alpha hardly does, perhaps I have made the best decision.

“All hail the Luna!” The crowd thundered unanimously.

Xander left the top floor and I followed suit, grinning widely. I have taken a risk that is worth it.

“Come!” A rough voice which I failed to recognize as the Alpha’s voice muttered beside me.

“What?” I asked, shocked.

He swerved around, his eyes bloodshot and angry.

“I said come!” He snapped and I cringed back in fear, my heartbeat accelerated rapidly as I stared at him, dumbfounded. He sighed, grabbed my hands, and pulled me along roughly. I gasped, trying so hard to make out the sudden change of behavior.

We got to the entrance of a chamber and he let go of my wrist. The gamma girl rushed over to us and bowed.

“That is your chamber,” he muttered and turned around.

My mind couldn’t place what was going on with him, did I make the right decision?

“Alpha,” I called, he stopped in his tracks and turned. My heart evolved from my chest when I saw the cold look on his face. I stuttered in confusion as Melsa’s words came rolling into my head.

Did I do the right thing?

I stood rooted to the spot, my head spinning in circles and the gripping pain of dismay taunted me. I gasped and exhaled countlessly, trying to grab the breath that was slowly emanating from my system.

“Luna?” A shrill voice whispered behind me and I slowly craned my neck to her direction.

“It’s getting late,” she whispered. I stuttered and nodded, slightly embarrassed.

I couldn’t take notice of the chamber I was going into, a chamber that would be a prison for the rest of my pathetic life.

“Why do you despise me so much, moon goddess? Why are you bent on ruining my life?” Tears slipped out of my eyes as I slowly trudged to the bed and slumped into it.

“I will prepare a hot bubble bath, my lady,” the gamma girl said, her head humbly bent low.

I ignored her, surveying for answers on how to escape the nemesis that glared at my face. Did Nathan poison his mind against me? But he can't believe an allegation from my ex-mate, can he?

I groaned frustrated.

The girl came out of a room I never noticed she entered. “Your bath is ready, my lady.”

“I’m not in the mood for a bath, I’ll do that later.” I noticed my voice was rough as I spoke.

“I didn’t mean to sound that way,” I added. She nodded and disappeared into the room again.

A rasp knock sounded on my door and I sprang up. My heartbeat increased with every step I took.

It must be the Alpha, he must be here to apologize.

I memorized the words I would say to him, and the actions that would take place after his apology.

I turned the knob and swung the door open, but to my disappointment, I found Nathan leaning on the door jamb. Did he send Nathan to apologize on his behalf?

A scowl replaced the grin on my face.

“What do you want?” I snapped.

Nathan straightened up, his eyes held an innocent glee that I was seeing for the first time since I’d known him.

“What do you want?” I repeated, my palm grew wet in anger.

“Elena.” My eyes widened in shock as I heard him mention my name gently and emotionally for the first time.

“I’m sorry for everything that I did to you, I’m sorry for rejecting you. I want you back as my mate.”
