Chapter six

Devlin POV

I was so filled with rage. There was no way I would let someone, even though he was a beta, insult my woman. I would never tolerate such a thing, and it should be known to everyone.

“How dare you!” I reached for him, grabbed his face, and smacked him on the floor. My moves were just so fast that evading me was impossible. I saw how he leaned backward and was thinking of attacking but didn’t know if it was a suitable option.

That would have been the worst option for him if he attacked me. Well, I wasn’t expecting this to be easy as he was someone who could put on a good fight.

“Alpha!”

“Alpha!”

Everyone gasped, seeing what I just did. Even Elora wasn’t exempted from the shock. She was even louder, and it was a good thing because she would get to see how important she was to me.

“Is it because of this human, that you have hurt me so badly? Is it bad for me to try to open your eyes to the truth?” Lucian grumbled right after getting himself back.

The impact of the attack was so draining that he had to stagger a few times to be able to stand properly.

“Who are you to tell me what’s good for me and what’s bad?” I snapped, staring daggers at him while clasping my fist. Depending on his answer, I could be pushed to the verge of attacking again. I was sure of it.

“She’s just a fucking human. Look at her! I am your beta and can make decisions too for this pack!” He replied, getting high on himself.

“Human or not, you don't deserve to judge. Just look at you. Do you think you are in the position to tell me what to do?” I raised a brow, walking towards him.

“I…” He stammered after being hit with my dangerous aura, and he was forced to gulp down the remaining words he intended to say.

“Yeah, that's right. I would choose my words wisely if I were you. Now, get out of my face!” I snapped, not only at him but at everyone. My eyes were burning furiously as I looked around, and they dared not look into my eyes.

Even Lucian himself shivered as he started walking away. Blood was still dripping from his nose from the attack and for the fact that it was from an Alpha, it would take time to heal, and he knew that.

Smirking, I turned to face Elora and right there her beauty was as radiant as ever. Once again I was charmed by her overwhelming beauty and the urge to claim her flooded inside me. Wolf or not, she was my mate and I had chosen her for me.

“Are you alright?” I reached for her, seeing she was shivering and unable to move from the spot she was. Even though the danger had been cleared out of the way, what had just happened created a terrifying scene in her head and must be keeping her stuck in it.

Sighing, I cupped her cheeks to make her look at me. “Nothing will happen to you as long as I'm here,” I assured, looking deeply into her eyes and she was able to pull out of her daze.

Gulping down hard, she said nothing more. I could tell she hadn't fully accepted me. I wouldn't blame her, nor would I force her. I intended to go slowly to win her heart, no matter how long it might take.

However, seeing that look of fear in her eyes was like piercing needles in my chest, and I wanted to replace it as fast as I could.

“Let's go. Allow me to bring you to your room.” I offered since he was silent all along.

“Okay.” She finally said. Even though it was just a word, hearing her response meant a lot to me.

Holding her hand, I led her into the pack house. Anyone we came across always sniffed the air and stared intensely at her as they figured she had no wolf. But for the fact that she was with me, no one could do anything.

Noticing this, she clung to my arm tightly and her warmth gave me a tingling sensation, but I ignored it.

Shortly after, we reached for a room and got on. It was just like every normal room in the house, having some exquisite settings. I would have taken her to mine, but for now, I wanted her to have her own space and see for herself that I wasn't the monster she thought I was.

“This is your room,” I said with a gesture while she stared around, but her face didn't give a certain reaction for me to know whether she was pleased or not.

“You like it?” I pushed forward to ask, but she gave me no response. Then she walked towards the bed and tucked herself under the sheet.

I sighed. My hand pushed my hair backward as I thought of what to do next. Though my wolf kept giving me suggestions, all of it was never an option for me.

“I'll send in some maids to help you. For now, you should rest.” I said to her and walked towards the door when she spoke.

“Thank you…for saving me out there.” She said in a faint voice, and I twirled my head to the back to look at her before going ahead to walk out of the room.

I walked in silence, heading towards the maid's quarters. She was going to need some food and maybe someone to show her around the place.

The only person who came to my head was Sarah since he was the head maid and one of the people I respected a lot in the pack. She would be able to do a good job and make Elora think good of me. Well, it wasn't like I was bad as the rumors say.

Sighing, I advanced down the path heading towards the maid section. The moment I got on the lane, I saw there was a group of maids surrounding a spot, seeming to be discussing something.

My interest became piqued. Though I could listen to them using my super hearing ability, I wanted to see what they were looking at.

Curiously, I advanced further and that was when I heard a whisper.

“Did you see the lady he brought in? She looks so weak!” Someone said amidst the crowd, and it got me infuriated. My fingers clasped tighter, and I couldn't hold the disgust down anymore.

“And what's your business?” My voice rang throughout the place, and they all shivered as they turned to look at me. Fear glinted off their eyes and they quickly bowed.

“Alpha!” All of them chanted in unison, but it made me angry.

“Don't you have other things to do other than running your mouths around?” I thundered, and their body vibrated in fear.

“We are-”

“Get out of my sight! Now!” I grumbled, stomping my feet on the floor, and they all raced out of the place.

Just then, my eyes settled on Sarah as she was about to sneak off and I called out.

“Sarah,”

 She froze.
