An irony

ANNABEL

I left my room, deciding to go to the balcony, a lot of people don’t go there frequently. I have only seen Adrian there, that’s where I go when I feel like talking to myself or my mother.

I walked into the balcony to see a male figure whom I recognized to be Adrian.

When did he get back?

He was deep in thoughts that he didn’t even know when I entered.

“Welcome back”. I said, now standing closer to him. He looked at me and smiled but a sad one.

Something must be wrong.

“Thanks Annabel”.

“What are you doing here? Is something wrong?” I asked, a concerned look on my face.

He didn’t reply, instead he heaved a sigh.

“You know, you can always tell me, your secret is safe with me”.

He turned to face me, looking at my face with a look I couldn’t decipher.

“Is there something wrong with my face, Adrian? Your silence is killing me.”

“You are killing me already, Anna,” He finally said.

“I don’t understand Adrian, you can only make me understand by opening up”.
