He himself would have sustained injuries if it wasn't for the leather gloves that he had worn. He also saw this little act as a sign of defiance and this enraged him even more.

“Alpha Varek with all due respect, you can't do this to her, it would hinder the whole process of her healing, only making her remain in our pack longer that you want,” Mark tried to reason, casting a sad gaze at the weak and helpless Maya who had to endure all this suffering just because their alpha was too insecure and suspicious of everything that moved.

Third person's pov. They didn't permit Maya to leave, nowhere, for some unknown reason, it seems they were a bit lax with keeping her prisoners, there were no silver chains any longer and she was allowed to wander, in the confines of a room.It had been a week since she was almost burnt to death and Sarah had been a close contact for her, after a while, Maya had become fond of her, so much so that she had been assigned a new room in the pack house.Sarah knocked on the doors of this new room, before pushing the door open, “Hey,” Maya sat by the window sill, taking in the fresh air and wishing more than anything that she could use her vision again, that she could see the environment she was in, however it didn't seem that was likely, “Hi,” she offered a sad smile in return.Sarah noticed this and couldn't help but feel sorry for the girl who was likely the same age as she was but due to the fact that she had been malnourished, her features appeared sickly, “How are you feeling?” May

3rd person pov.Maya stirred in her sleep, a sign of the nightmare that plagued her whether she was asleep or awake, it didn't matter, at last, she burst forth in shock, her arms stretched out before her as if reaching for something. She asked herself what was that, her body trembled vehemently as though it had been the worst, most scary nightmare she had ever seen. Yet she couldn't push the feeling that it was all real.Too real. She shakenly reached for her eyes which had been bandages as she recalled the last thing she had witnessed before she had passed out.I was about to be burnt in a pyre, had he changed his mind? She muttered to herself.Unbeknownst to her, someone watched her silently as time passed by until she felt a presence in the room with her, “Who's there?” Alert, she recoiled into herself and inched backwards into she felt the headrest behind her.Her body reminding her of the danger of the torture she had been through in her past and the scary images she though she

Vareks pov.I dashed into the flames, ripping the binds that held Maya in place, wrapping my hands around her and taking her out before the scorching fire could consume the entire pyre.Sounds of confusion echoed around me but I couldn't care about them, what I did care about was what Maya had said.Or rather the name she had called.“Auren,” Auren, my shining light.Maya was throwing a fit, desperate to get the smoke out of her lungs, her eyes hadn't healed but in its place appeared black orbs as dark as the night time. I shook her gently, trying to get her to wake up because I had only one question for her.She stared at me or rather, it appeared as though she was staring at me, her dark long hair framed her features, her brows knitted in confusion, probably wondering why I had stopped the execution. My breathing was heavy, I didn't know how to bring myself to question her but I wanted to, “How?”Maya's brows knitted further. How? Why? Where? All the questions.Or perhaps it had be

She wanted so much to apologize and to explain herself, but she didn't know what to explain. She didn't know what had happened, what she had seen that made her utter such words. Maya tugged at the chains for the first time, wanting
