View MoreMaya's pov.I was sore, every muscle aching, fatigued, like I’d just run a marathon instead of spending days sitting around the pack house.I tried to sit up, but pain lanced through me, sharp and deep, and a firm hand pressed against my shoulder, holding me down.“You don’t need to get up,” Jackson’s familiar voice said gently. “You’re going through the healing process.”My throat felt raw, the inside of my mouth dry as sand. “Can I get some water?” I rasped. My voice came out rougher, huskier than I intended, I was parched.I felt a cold glass of water placed in my hands and I brought the cold liquid to my lips, downing it slowly so it quenched my thirst. My body still felt pain, “What happened?” I inquired, stretching out my hands and the glass was taken away from me.The last thing I remembered was…. I was speaking with Varek and then all of a sudden, there was this growing pain that split through me.“It's the alpha serum, do you feel any changes in your body?” Now that Jackson m
Varek's pov.Her body jerked violently, as though an invisible force had seized her strings and yanked them all at once. “Maya! Maya, are you okay?”I crouched beside her, sliding my hands beneath her head to keep it from striking the floor. Her limbs convulsed, twisting in unnatural rhythm; a faint foam gathered at the corner of her lips, her breath coming in short, broken gasps.Panic surged through me. Scooping her up bridal style, I raced for the infirmary where Mark should be. I didn’t know what was happening or how to help — only that I had to move, fast.“MARK!” I shouted the moment I burst through the clinic doors. The others in the clinic stared at me in shock, alarm etched across their faces as they rushed forward to help. But one figure pushed through the crowd.Jackson.“Mark isn’t around at the moment, hurry, bring her in,” he instructed, his voice steady despite the tension. He led us into a separate ward and closed the door behind him while I laid Maya on the bed.Jack
Maya's pov One minute then pain rippled through me like an earthquake, touching every part of my body, and the next it was gone like it was never there, a presence without a shadow. The pack had been busy for the past few days now, trying to get things together, or so I was told by Sarah who I hadn't heard from in a while. Everyone seems to be busy. No one seems to pay attention to me, and if they did, it was always a derogatory comment of how I was never to be here, how I was slacking off and not doing anything, how I was just allowed to roam their pack. Even though I didn't want to be here, to be honest, I wished I had died after my banishment. It would have saved me a lot of the pain, the ridicule, the constant worrying that something bad was coming and that worry seems to grow day by day. It was noon and I was in the woods, sitting on a fallen log, taking in the warm air and the sounds of the cricket which calmed me down and kept me company, even if that sounded ridiculo
Maya's pov.“Okay??” I was unsure about this as I felt weird, I didn't know him, I didn't know what he looked like nor did I like the way he sounded but at that moment, he was my present and Mark wasn't.Jackson led me by my hand and brought me to a chair to take a seat which I did, although right after I ripped my hands away from him, physical touch has never been my strong suit.“So, you eyes, Do you mind if I ask what happened to them?” He questioned from behind me before slowly undoing the bandages.Yes, I did mind, it wasn't something I wanted to talk about, especially to someone I just met.Jackson seems to wave it off, “It must be traumatic for you, having to lose your vision, I don't think I would be able to live with myself if I can't see the beauty of the world,”I wanted to scoff in ridicule, the beauty of the world? The world wasn't beautiful, maybe once upon a time, but for a long time it hasn't.There have been wars, killing and a terrible event that have happened over
