LOGINSerena's POV
“Mummy see I found the necklace you were looking for”Aria said lifting up the golden chain in the air.
Her little hands swung in the air.
“Thank you baby,”I said.
“Now go inside, you know mummy doesn't like you coming out of the house, it's not safe for you yet, there are so many dangerous wolves out there”
“But mummy, I want to play with the other kids,”she said, stumping her little feet on the ground aggressively.
“No”I said and pulled her into the house, her screams filled the air.
She had his stubborn spirit, I tried everyday to forget him but it was hard when your daughter looks exactly the same as the man you're trying to forget.
Same dark hair, same grey eyes.
It was like a piece of him was still with me.
Aria went to a corner to sit quietly, it broke my heart that I couldn't give her the freedom she wanted but I couldn't risk getting her exposed, if anyone were to find out who she really was and who her father was, they might try to use her to get to him, To make matters worse, I was in a remarkably dangerous position as a member of the pack council.
Looking back, it felt surreal just a few years ago. I arrived here as a broken woman with a child and nothing to my name, and now, everything was on the line.
As I stepped out of the house, I collided right into a solid chest.
I looked up to see Alpha Dorian.
“Alpha Dorian,” I said, catching my breath.
“What brings you here so late?”
His expression was stern. “There was an incident at the border. We found an unconscious man, and we’re in the middle of an investigation to figure out what happened.”
“We need you to take up the case,”he said.
“You should have just sent someone to come and tell me, you didn't have to come here yourself”
“No, I wanted to do it myself,”he said.
I sighed, he took a great risk coming to this far from town alone, I lived in a small house still on pack grounds but it was a little bit far from the main village.
“Come by the pack house later to check it out”he said then looked around the yard.
“Where's Aria?”he asked.
“Oh I sent her inside” I said.
“Don't you think you're hiding her too much, I know you're trying to protect her but sometimes you need to let her come out and see the world so she can learn things by herself”
“She's learning things here already,”I muttered.
“I don't want her to experience what I experienced, I had no one to show me what was wrong and what was right, I had no one to protect me but my daughter won't experience that, I will protect her”I said.
He placed an arm over my shoulders, sensing just how deeply this felt to me. I had come so far and my life had finally improved, but I would never forget the cold ache of being treated like an outsider in my own pack.
“Don’t worry Aria will be fine,”he said.

After going through some documents, I cleaned up the house and fed Aria. Being a single mother and a high-ranking pack council member wasn't easy, but at least I had my friend Lysa to help take care of my daughter.
The front door swung open, and Lysa walked in with her heavy bag in hand.
“Hey, Cherry,” she said, waving at me.
“Hey! Aria is in her room. I'm heading to the pack house to do some investigating, but I'll be right back,” I replied. “I put her snacks in the fridge in case she wants any.”I said before leaving.
I got to the pack house after a few minutes, the distance from my house to the pack house wasn't that much.
I saw the head security officer at the pack house.
“Miss Voss, thank goodness you're here, we were just about to head to the border”he said.
“Would you like to join us”
I nodded slowly, and within minutes, we were on our way to the pack border road.
Lance, the head security officer, decided to bring three other men from the team along. All four wore heavy armored vests, their faces set with quiet discipline as we moved toward the perimeter.
The distance from the pack house to the border was a bit far, so we had to walk a long way.
As we reached the borderlands, the acrid stench of decay, a mix of dead animals and rotting plants, heavy in the air greeted us. Scorched trunks and brittle, dried-up branches stretched out in every direction.
The borderlands were a desolate wasteland. No one dared live here except for the rogues and wildlings. It was nothing but parched ground, towering trees, and by far the most perilous stretch of the pack lands.
I froze, spotting a fresh trail of blood mixed with scrambled footprints.
“I think this is the exact spot they found him,” Lance said, stepping up beside me.
“Okay,” I murmured, crouching to examine the crimson trail more closely.
The man must have been here for a while; the spot where he had lain unconscious was soaked through with heavy, dark blood.
“Did he survive?” I asked, looking up at Lance.
“Huh?”
“The man they found here, is he still alive?”
“Yeah,” Lance replied. “He’s with the pack’s healer.”
“Okay, I need to go check out his wound. I think he was attacked, but I don't know what attacked him,” I said, looking down at the ground closely.
I spotted a strange ring resting on the floor, its diamond design catching the light. Bending down, I picked it up. The symbol etched onto the surface looked suspiciously familiar, and I searched my memory, trying to place where I’d seen it before.
Then it hit me, this looked a lot like the Blackthorn Pack symbol.
“What's that?” Lance asked.
Serena's POVThe silence in the Great Hall did not break immediately. It lingered like frost in the high rafters, heavy and fragile, as twenty Ashveil guards watched six elite Blackthorn knights kneeling upon the cold stone floor.Commander Vane remained on one knee before Kael, his head lowered so deeply that the silver links of his collar touched the breastplate of his armor."Alpha Kael," Vane spoke again, his voice thick with gravel and remorse. "My life is yours. The vanguard at the outer pass stands under my orders, but my orders belong only to the true heir of the Blackthorn seat. We did not know. By the blood of the ancestors, we had no knowledge of what Mara did."Kael looked down at the seasoned warrior. There was no arrogance in his posture, only that innate, immovable gravity that defined a born leader. Even stripped of four years of memories, the authority in his blood was absolute."Stand, Vane," Kael said calmly. "And tell your men to rise."Vane stood first, stiff and
Serena's POVThe copper smell of wolf blood filled the small front room of my cottage.I pressed the thick linen cloths harder against Lysa's side, feeling the wet heat soaking through the fabric and coating my fingers. Lysa let out a ragged, whistling breath through clamped teeth, her knuckles turning bone white where she gripped the wooden arms of the chair."Keep pressure on it," I ordered softly, my voice calm even as adrenaline burned cold in my veins. "Do not try to speak yet.""I am fine," Lysa gasped, though her skin was gray under the yellow lantern light. "The blade was coated with something bitter. Silver dust or wolfsbane residue. It is slowing the clot."I reached for the small bottle of powdered hemlock root and clean water on the sideboard, quickly mixing a neutralizing paste. Applying it directly to the open slash, I watched the dark, sluggish blood bubble faintly before the edges of the torn muscle began to pull together under her natural healing response."Bane did n
Serena's POVThat night, the cottage was cold.I built a small fire in the stone hearth, watching the orange flames crackle and lick against the dark wood. Aria was fast asleep in her room, her small stuffed wolf tucked tightly under her chin.Lysa sat at the kitchen table, checking the straps on her dark leather travel boots."Are you sure about this contact, Serena?" Lysa asked quietly, tightening a buckle. "Bane was loyal to Kael's father, but three years is a long time. People change when Elder Mara starts handing out council silver.""Bane hates Mara," I assured her, handing Lysa a sealed parchment containing our coded meeting signals. "She executed his brother for minor treason two winters ago. He has been waiting for an opportunity to pull her down. Tell him I need the original forge dispatch ledger for the incendiary pitch."Lysa tucked the parchment into her tunic lining, looking up at me with dark, protective concern. "And what will you do while I'm at the border pass? Spend
Serena's POVThe morning air outside the strategy wing carried the damp, earthy scent of crushed pine and pine needles. The fog had thinned slightly, exposing the dark jagged ridges of the eastern mountains that separated Ashveil territory from the untamed neutral borderlands.I sat at my desk, staring at a newly opened map of the eastern border road.Beside the map lay three separate scout logs from the night Kael was brought in. Lance had done an admirable job recording the physical markers, but Lance was a military commander, not an intelligence analyst. He looked for tracks, blood spatter, and perimeter breaches. He did not look for what was missing.A quiet knock sounded on the heavy frame of the door, and Lance stepped into the office, carrying a leather dispatch pouch."You requested the raw reconnaissance reports from the eastern quadrant, Miss Voss," Lance said, placing the pouch on the corner of my desk. His posture was rigid, his expression carrying the disciplined neutrali
Serena's POVMorning brought a gray, heavy fog that clung to the pine trees surrounding the Ashveil pack house.I sat at my desk in the strategy wing, the surface covered in perimeter logs, scout reports, and encrypted communication ledgers. The cup of coffee beside my elbow had long since gone cold, but I did not touch it. My mind was still stuck in the clinic room, loops of yesterday playing endlessly behind my eyes. The way Kael had looked at Aria. The way his wolf had stirred, raw and unshielded, searching for a bond his damaged mind could not name. And Dorian’s quiet observation lingering in the air between us like smoke. They have the same eyes.I rubbed my temples, breathing slowly through my nose to center myself. I could not afford to unravel. In Ashveil, I was not the discarded mate of the Blackthorn Alpha. I was the head strategist. People depended on my clarity, my distance, and my ability to read three steps ahead of everyone else in the room.A soft knock sounded at my d
Serena's POVThe air in the room felt heavy enough to suffocate me.Dorian’s words hung between us like a physical object, quiet but impossible to ignore. He stood near the door, his sharp brown eyes shifting from Kael in the medical bed to the three year old girl resting on my hip.Kael did not look away from her. His expression was a mixture of absolute confusion and something raw, something primal that sat just beneath his skin. His wolf was awake, stirring behind those pale grey eyes, searching for a pattern his conscious mind had lost in the blank expanse of four forgotten years."Hello," Aria said, completely unfazed by the silence. She tilted her head, her small fingers clutching the collar of my shirt. "Are you sick?"Kael opened his mouth, then closed it. He looked down at his own hands on the blanket, then back at her face, tracing her jawline and the dark tumble of hair against her neck. "I... I think I was," he murmured. His voice had a strange raspy edge to it that had not
