Eva's POV.

I found a simple suitable dress for the evening and quickly changed into it.

Glancing over the mirror at the far end of the room, I smiled to myself.

The long gown wasn't so tight, but it complimented the tiny curves that I never knew I had.

Somehow, I was really beginning to see myself in a new light since I left my pack.

The door suddenly flung open cutting through my chain of thoughts, it was Nicklaus. He was clad in his usual all black outfit, although that never made him one bit less attractive.

His gaze lingered on me for a second, suddenly at my thigh area which was exposed by the little slit on the dress.

"Sha.. shall we go?" I stuttered, in a bid to tear off the awkward silence.

He nodded curtly, surprisingly stretching forth his hand towards me.

Okay? What is he doing?

"C'mon Eva, we are gonna be late." He mumbled, his hand still stretched out.

It then occured to me what was going on.

He wanted me to place my hands on his.

Why does he always do that tho

  • Rejected and Banished; The kids are his.   Chapter two hundred and thirty three.

Eva's POV. The faintest light of dawn crept through the narrow slit of my window when I opened my eyes. For a moment, I simply laid there, listening. The mansion was silent, eerily so. Not even the usual creaks of footsteps or murmurs of voices echoed through the halls. Everyone was still asleep. It was the perfect time.I sat up slowly, my bare feet brushing the cold floor. My heart was already racing as though it anticipated the risk I was about to take. I slipped on my longer robe and tied it loosely around me, then tiptoed toward the door, making sure each step I took was soundless. The door creaked open as I pulled on it, dragging with it a slightly loud noise, but the noise was swallowed by silence. The corridor was still dark as I stepped out, I stopped on my track, carefully looking around for any sign of presence and seeing nothing, I forced myself forward, moving silently until I got to the kitchen door.I slipped inside, relieved to see no one else was there. But by the

Eva's POV. The evening air was soft against my skin as I stepped out into the compound; I had quietly stepped out of the house after hearing the details of their journey, I couldn't spend another second in the same space with them, not without giving myself away, because deep down, I was filled up already by everything I've seen and heard since I arrived here.I tilted my head back, letting the cold breeze nip at my face, whisper through my hair, and soothe the pounding ache of too many secrets discovered in too little time.My legs moved of their own accord, slow but restless, pacing the path that wound around the side of the mansion. Each crunch of my footfalls beneath me became an anchor, reminding me that I was still here, still breathing, still surviving, still plotting; my thoughts refused to quiet.Every face I had seen locked behind that cursed door haunted me, their cries still echoed in my ears as though carried on the night wind, despite how hard I tried to push it to the

  • Rejected and Banished; The kids are his.   Chapter two hundred and thirty one.

Eva's POV.I paced my room in tremendous anger, my fingers twisting the hem of my sleeve until the seams felt as though they might tear. My mind was a storm, replaying the horrors I had seen only hours ago.It had only been a day. Just one day. And yet I felt as though I had aged a hundred years.I pressed my palms to the sides of my head, trying to steady the whirlwind of thoughts. You can’t fall apart now, Eva. Not now, not ever. Not while so many depend on you.The sudden distant rumble of wheels made me freeze, I quickly darted toward the window, my breath catching in my throat. I sighted a carriage rolled through the gates, the same one that Aragorn and his cohorts had left with hours ago. “They’re back,” I whispered.I pressed my forehead against the cool glass, watching as Aragorn stepped down first, his long robe sweeping across the floor. Lady Tory followed with her usual smugness, Nuela slithering behind, and finally Elder Magnus, his face as unreadable as ever.I drew a de

  • Rejected and Banished; The kids are his.   Chapter two hundred and thirty.

Eva's POV.I slammed the door shut behind as we walked out of the room. For a moment I just stood there in the hallway, frozen, my hand pressed tightly against my chest as if that alone could quiet the wild pounding of my heart. My stomach churned. My throat was dry, yet I could still taste the bitterness of nausea threatening to rise.I had never… never in my life seen such horror. And I could not unsee it now.Selene was watching me carefully. Her eyes darted to the corners of the corridor, her shoulders tense. “Now you know,” she whispered, her voice trembling yet carrying the weight of years of suppressed agony. “Now you’ve seen what he keeps hidden.”I swallowed hard, my mouth opening and closing like I was trying to breathe air underwater. “Selene… those people... ” My voice cracked. “Those screams, the faces… my goodness, how long… how long has this been happening right under everyone’s noses?”Selene pressed her lips together. “Too long,” she said. “Too many years, each week

Eva's POV.My chest rose and fell in rapid bursts, each breath scraping my throat as though I had swallowed knives. The door Selene had disappeared into only seconds ago stood ajar, inviting me in. My pulse hammered against my ribs, threatening to rip free, I exhaled deeply and moved forward. One step. Then another. My hand grazed the cold wood of the doorframe, slick with sweat from my trembling fingers. I pushed. The sound hit me first; screams, terrified muffled cries. My eyes darted around, adjusting to the flickering light of the wide room. The moment I understood what I was looking at, my feet froze.“Oh bloody hell,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. They were everywhere.Men. Women. Girls younger than me, boys that I could barely guess their age due to the misery washed all over their faces. All stripped bare of dignity, naked bodies huddled against cold stone floors. Shackles clung to their ankles and wrists, clinking with every desperate movement. Some were curled into

  • Rejected and Banished; The kids are his.   Chapter two hundred and twenty eight.

Eva's POV.The door creaked open at last. My heart thudded as I stepped away from the shadows.Selene appeared, her arms still steadying the heavy tray though it was empty now, only crumbs and a few smears of sauce left. Her face was pale, her lips pressed tightly together and her eyes watery with something she was clearly trying to suppress. Before she could fully notice me, I pushed away from the wall and stood directly in her path. Her entire body jolted. The tray nearly slipped from her fingers."M... My lady,” she stammered, her eyes widening, “what are you doing here?”I folded my arms across my chest, keeping my voice calm, though my pulse hammered against my ribs. “I think the better question, Selene, is what you are doing here.”She froze, her lips parting and closing again like a fish out of water.“I... I was just… delivering food,” she whispered.I took a deliberate step closer, my eyes narrowing. “Food to who?”Her throat bobbed. She looked left, then right, her body angl
