Selina's POV.

I was extremely tired when I finally made it back to my house, it was slightly deep in the night already.

The faint ache in my lower back reminded me how many hours I’d been on my feet. All I wanted was to get the key in the door, kick off my worn shoes, and collapse face flat onto my bed.

But the moment the tip of my key slid into the lock, and I made to unlock it and walk inside, I heard sound of footsteps behind me.

I froze, turning slowly, my eyes landed on Chloe. She was strolling toward me, her hips swaying like she was on some kind of personal runway, clutching a pink purse that I knew cost more than everything I owned combined.

"I didn’t know cleaning toilets and doing dishes took so much time," she said with a soft tone that that didn’t quiet match the scowl in her eyes. "I’ve been waiting for you."

I blinked at her, taken aback. "You’ve… been waiting for me?"

We weren’t of any personal attachment, In fact, the only times she’d ever acknowledged my existence were when she needed someone to carry something or to pass on a message, and I could still vividly remember my first encounter with her on my first day at the Alpha's mansion, which was totally terrible.

So why was she here?

"Is… everything alright?" I asked cautiously.

"No," she said, her tone shifting from fake sweet to cold in an instant. "Everything is not alright. And you know why."

I frowned, utterly lost. "I’m not sure I... "

"What do you think you’re doing with Alpha Malik?" she cut in, her voice dripping with utter venom.

The breath caught in my throat. I opened my mouth, but all that came out was a stutter. "I.. uh...

She stepped closer, close enough that I could smell her expensive floral perfume. "Don’t bother trying to deny it. I’ve seen the way he looks at you. I’ve seen how much time he spends with you now, Malik is mine, We’ve been together since we were children. And I’ll be damned if a lowly maid like you thinks she can sneak her way into our lives and ruin everything."

Her words were brutal, but what shocked me more was the coldness in her eyes.

"I’m not… trying to ruin anything between you two," I managed, my voice trembling slightly, more from exhaustion than fear.

"Then why," she demanded, "has Malik been spending all his time with you instead of me like he always has?"

I swallowed hard. I could lie to her, pretend it was nothing. Pretend Malik only spoke to me out of courtesy. But I had nothing to be afraid of ashamed of anymore.

"Because we’re mates," I said quietly. "That’s just the reason behind any closeness you might have noticed between us, but I promise, it doesn't stop Alpha Malik from being your friend."

Her lips curled in disgust. "The moon goddess must have made a mistake pairing you two. And I won’t allow it."

A flash of irritation rose in me, chasing away my earlier hesitation. "Malik accepted the mate bond long before I did," I gritted, trying so hard to keep my voice down. "He wants this. If he didn’t, you wouldn’t see me anywhere near him."

She croaked out a bitter laughter. "I don’t care what he thinks, I want you to stay away from him."

"I can’t," I said, shaking my head. "Even if I could, Malik wouldn’t be able to stay away from me."

Her eyes narrowed to slits. "Then leave the pack. Go far away. Somewhere he’ll never find you."

I stared at her in disbelief. "You’re asking me to just… disappear?"

"Yes," she said simply, as though it were the most reasonable request in the world.

"I’m sorry," I replied, my voice more rigid now. "But I can’t."

Her gaze turned furious. "Then I’ll pay you off, name your price. I’ll give you more than you’ve ever dreamed of... enough to start a nice little life somewhere far from here."

For a moment, my tired mind conjured the image; a cozy home in some distant town, free from being a servant here, but the image flickered and died as quickly as it appeared. Because it didn’t include Malik. And I couldn’t imagine a life without him in it.

And I was still serving as a maid by choice, Malik wanted to take me off it, but I didn't want the pack to whisper and spread rumors, I will stop once we've had our marriage, which was coming up soon, so why would I want to take pennies from her and abandon the happy life that the moon goddess has offered me?

"I can’t take your offer," I said, keeping my tone as polite as possible. "I mean no offense, but Malik has come to mean so much to me. And if I just disappeared… he’d lose his mind. You know that."

Her jaw tightened, and for the first time, the fury in her eyes that she's been trying to cage was finally breaking free. "If you think this is over," she said, her voice low and dangerous, "you’re wrong. Stay away from him, or you’ll regret it."

I held her gaze, my heart pounding, but I refused to look away.

"I promise you Selina, you don't want to be in my watch list, I'm the last person you would want to ever mess with, if you don't want to regret ever being born, stay away from what's mine."

She took a step back, looking me over like I was something she’d scrape off her shoe. Then she turned on her heel and walked away.

I stood there for a long moment after she disappeared, my key still in the lock, my hands trembling, not with fear, but with anger.

It was the first time Chloe had confronted me directly with so much dreadful fury. And I had the sickening feeling it wouldn’t be the last.

Eva's POV.I adjusted my robe my shoulders, my eyes darting left and right as I moved down the shadowed passageway leading toward the estate’s outer gate. I pulled my cloak tighter, steadying my breath as I reached the gate, looking around again to make no one was watching from any corner.Thankfully, it was the gate guard, Hayden, the same one I had struck a deal with that was at the gate post, I have been more careful about coming to see him after I noticed there were others at the post too, and they all hustled between shifts; and I haven't spoken to any of them yet, none has ticked my fancy for loyalty. He sat hunched on the small wooden stool by the post. “Evening, Hayden,” I greeted in a low voice and he straightened, though not without looking startled first.“Lady Eva,” he called sternly as he panted, although respectfully. “I didn’t hear your steps, you scared me." I allowed flashed him a warm smile. "I'm sorry about that, I was being careful not to raise my voice too loud

Eva's POV.I was careful not to step too hard on the floor to make any noise as I walked along the passageway, every corner of this house had ears; I had learned that lesson early.I was halfway down the corridor when a figure slipped out from the shadows, startling me enough to draw my hand toward the dagger I kept beneath my sleeve. “My lady!” I heard a familiar voice whisper quietly. It was Marisol, the maid I had struck a deal with days ago, she looked around frantically before closing the distance between us, her hand clutching my sleeve as though her life depended on it.My heart pounded at her desperation. “What are you doing lurking like this?” I murmured sharply, glancing up and down the passage.“My lady, I... I need to tell you something,” she stammered, her voice trembling. “Something important.”I stilled her with a hand. “Not here. Do you want the walls themselves to carry your words to Aragorn’s ears? Come.”Without waiting for her response, I guided her quickly down t

  • Rejected and Banished; The kids are his.   Chapter two hundred and twenty one.

Eva's POV.I wasn’t sure what pulled me outside that afternoon, instinct, perhaps, or the faint voice that had been whispering at the back of my mind since my encounter with the house maid... Pay attention to the overlooked, the servants, the guards, they see everything their masters try to hide. The estate was unnervingly quiet, though I had learned that quiet in this place was not peace. It meant chaos and secrets flying through quietly. My feet carried me toward the outer gate almost without thought, and that’s where I saw the gate guard slumped on the wooden chair like a man who had given up on life. His spear leaned lazily against the wall close to him as though it was more burden to him than being his protecting weapon. He didn’t even notice me until I cleared my throat deliberately. “Everything alright?”He flinched so hard I nearly laughed. His head snapped up, eyes wide, like someone caught stealing. “M-my lady!” He scrambled upright, fumbling to bow. “Forgive me, I… I didn’t

Eva's POV.I paced my room in circles, clutching the small recorder tightly in my palm as though my life depended on it, which it does, literally. My thumb trembled against the button as the muffled voices spilled from it, replaying everything that had transpired in the living room downstairs. My lips curled into a smile I couldn’t contain. “Got you,” I whispered to myself, pressing the recorder close to my chest. “Every last one of you.”The satisfaction swirled in my veins like fire. Finally, something concrete. Finally, proof that would bring them crashing down, even if it's not enough yet, but there's more where that came from. Nicklaus had always told me that snakes couldn’t stay in hiding forever... they always slithered into the light eventually. Now I had caught them in the open.I pressed the device off and tucked it carefully into the secret slit I had sewn into my undergarment, hidden beneath layers of fabric. Then, I ran a hand through my hair, trying to steady the rush o

Eva's POV.Just as I walked out of my room, and descended the stairs towards the living room, my ears suddenly pricked at the sound of hushed voices drifting from the living room, it didn't sound a bit less suspicious so I slowed, careful not to betray my presence too soon, but my pulse quickened as curiosity pulled me downward. With every step, the words became clearer. But when I reached the final bend and my eyes landed on the scene before me, I almost staggered back against the wall.Sitting stiffly on one of the high-backed chairs was a man I never expected to see here, my lips parted in disbelief.Elder Magnus. One of the high council elders. One of the men meant to safeguard the packs with wisdom and neutrality. My stomach clenched at the sight of him seated in Aragorn’s living room like a conspirator caught in the act.I sucked in a breath and steadied myself. My fingers brushed beneath my shirt, pressing against the small recorder hidden in the lining. With an easy flick, I s

  • Rejected and Banished; The kids are his.   Chapter two hundred and eighteen.

Eva's POV.I laid on the bed staring blankly at the ceiling, my mind a storm of thoughts that refused to settle, sleep had long abandoned me, and peace was a luxury I could not even afford at this point. Every choice I’d made in the past few days circled back, haunting me terribly. Nicklaus. The thought of him was enough to twist something deep in my chest. I could see his face when I turned against him in front of Aragorn, the disbelief, the pain, the fury. That image clung to me more tightly than the good memories we've ever shared, despite how hard I tried to push only the thoughts of the good times to my head, the haunting ones still crept in somehow. I’d told myself this was the only way, that pretending to side with Aragorn was the path to saving Nicklaus, saving us, and it really is, but fuck, was the cost of it breaking me faster than I could bear? I rubbed a palm over my face trying to hold myself from crashing out, the only thing I could do right now is to to move faste
