This chapter and the coming chapters will move the story forward to Xyana's experience, and they will shed more light on her relationship with Clifton.
Please read through the next chapters with open mind. I promise it will all come together at the end. Once again, thank you for supporting this book. Your support makes me happy and keeps me going. "We need to talk in private," I added, casting a side glance at the intruder in the room; Zegulf Landerman. Gaston nods and clears his throat. Then he directs his attention to Zegulf. "Alpha Zegulf," he calls. "I'll need you to excuse my brothers and me." Zegulf tsks, "You're not trying to get rid of me, are you?" Gaston shakes his head. "I will never do that." Suddenly, Gaston pauses and arches his brow. "Did you get the witch?" He asks. Zegulf clenches his teeth tight and shakes his head. "Do you still have yours?" "Yes, and I'll need your help pretty soon." "You can call me anytime, I'll be willing to help." Landerman offers. "In the meantime, I will wait outside. I want to be kept abreast of whatever is going on with Xyana. Don't shut me out, please." He looks at all of us pleadingly. The way Dion and Declan look back at him, I know they bought his helpless facial appearance that I'm certain is absolutely fake. "I give you my word." Again, Gaston reassures the stupid Alpha that he will carry him along on every news that has to do with Xyana. Killian steps into the room and leads Zegulf outside. Once the door gets shut behind them, I snort loud, too loud, actually. "You should find a way to keep him far from me. I'm only this calm because I'm focused on Xyana. Once her health is confirmed, I will skin him alive." "Clif, can you just focus." Declan cuts me off. That seemed to be the brain reset I needed because I shut my eyes briefly and took a deep breath. When I opened it again, I felt a bit relaxed than before. "What exactly is happening, Alpha?" I ask Gaston. "I didn't give Xyana that necklace. I've never seen the necklace before." "What if... I don't know how this might sound, but have you thought of asking Amon?" Dion asks and everyone turns to me. "Amon didn't do it," I shake my head, half believing myself at this point. There have been times when Amon gets overpowered by the darkness within him that he separates from me while I'm asleep, and he goes ahead to cause sheer havoc within the pack. But that was when the darkness overtook me newly. Then, I hadn't gotten a hand or what the little demon could do to my wolf and me. I couldn't control certain actions of mine. But now I can. And all that is now in the past. I haven't given up control to the darkness for a very long time now. I don't let it control me, not anymore. "Amon didn't do it," I repeat my words again, this time with a little more conviction. "Have you asked him?" Declan joins Dion in his verbal crusade. "I-I-no, I haven't." I suck in a breath and groan barely audibly. "That's the only explanation for all of this," Gaston speaks. I turn to my uncle, and the man is seated, watching my brothers and me as we carry on with the unfolding drama. He doesn't seem to follow the conversation quite well. But he's smart enough not to ask any questions on that effect. "What do I have to do?" I ask the two warlocks in the room. "We will send you to meet her, and you will help her come back." Uncle explains. Amon stirs, rolling around joyfully. "Like I'm going to be her Superman, sort of?" Uncle doesn't answer me. "You have to understand that you have a fifty-fifty chance at this. You might be unsuccessful. However, I need you to come back home if you think she won't follow you willingly. If you don't get back home, you will be trapped with her forever." I seriously do not think I hate the sound of that. If wherever they want to send me to is a bit comfortable and I'll get to spend my time with Xyana for the rest of my life, it doesn't sound so bad at all. "It won't be a sweet experience, Clif. I don't know what you should expect or how Xyana would react to you in another space. Just come straight home if things don't work out." I nod, "okay." "Tell me you understand, Clif." "Yeah, I understand," I murmur inaudibly. "But how do I come home?" "Just speak to Amon, he knows." Gaston replies. "And you know that how?" I ask him. He smiles, "I just know." "Ready?" Uncle asks, interrupting us. "Wait, now?" "Ready?" Uncle repeats. The man must really be a man of very few words. I turn to Gaston, and he nods. Well, what else am I waiting for? "Ready," I reply. The next minute, my uncle touches my arm and drags me closer to him. Gaston grabs connects his fingers with that of my uncles. That is all I remember because the next moment I opened my eyes, I was in a plain field surrounded by absolutely nothing.~Xyana~ 'PIG, FAT, and UGLY' have become names I'm now accustomed to. I used to think myself beautiful until recently. All thanks to our Alpha's rumored mate, Oksana. Ever since she started deriving pleasure in dehumanizing and abusing me because she thinks I'm too fat for her liking, my life got enveloped in an endless stream of never-ending chores. She'll call me 'Pig' over and over again and I'll always answer her with a 'yes ma'am.' She makes sure I don't get to enjoy a moment of rest during the day. I work at the farms, at the pack daycare, the kitchen, I scrub the floors; I literally do everything. Yet she's never satisfied. ** Today, Mrs. Sal, the pack's Matron, assigned my best friend, Jiya, and me to clean the Alpha's living room. She must have taken pity on me and decided to give me an easy task that I'd spend most of my day doing. As Jiya and I focus on our assigned task for the day. I suddenly feel the hairs on my neck prickle. A dull pull follows, drawing
~Xyana~ I stumble behind Gamma Reeder, shame oozing through me with every step. My mind is still reeling from Alpha Kedar’s words, the disgust in his voice, the name-calling, and the humiliation that burns deeper than the wounds Oksana physically inflicted on me. My wolf "Juno," whimpers in my head, confused and heartbroken. 'He's ours,' she repeats weakly, but I can feel her spirit gradually dying down as if she too is beginning to accept the harsh reality. The pack members whisper as I pass, their eyes filled with cruel amusement. I catch glimpses of mocking smirks, and knowing looks exchanged between them. They revel in my humiliation, every single one of them. "Pathetic," someone scoffs. "How can this fat thing try to fight a real wolf?" Another voice says. "She attacked our soon-to-be Luna." I hear someone else accuse me from the crowd. I clench my teeth, swallowing the lump in my throat. I will not cry in front of them. I refuse to give them that satisfaction. We f
~Gaston~The pain I'm feeling is excruciating; my head is spinning uncontrollably as my chauffeur, Killian, keeps driving farther away from the source of my pain."Pull over," I tell Killian. The car hitches to a stop almost immediately and he stares at me through the rearview mirror, his face lined with worry.I groan into my palms painfully as my veins go through bouts of painful constrictions. "What can I do, Alpha?" Killian asks."Turn the car around," I tell him, "and drive until I ask you to stop."He nods and kicks the car into gear, pulling it into reverse. We started heading back to the same route we were coming from. A few minutes into the ride, the maddening pain starts to fade gradually, getting replaced by an unbearable intense pull that is almost pulling me out of the car."Killian, stop the car." I groan. The car halts instantly. I push outside, staggering towards the nearby woods; the exact direction of the unbearable pull. I don't have the time to tell Killian what
~Xyana~ Slowly, consciousness comes to me in painful waves. My body feels heavy like it’s been weighed down by thick rocks, and my mind is foggy, struggling to piece together the last thing I remember. My eyelids feel like they’re glued shut by an external force, causing me to force it open. The first thing I see is a high, vaulted ceiling made of dark wood. I try to sit up, but a sharp pain shoots through my ribs, forcing me back down. A gentle hand presses against my shoulder, and I turn to see a man with kind eyes and a stethoscope around his neck. A doctor, I presume. “You have to take it easy,” he says softly. “Your body is still recovering." He places two fingers on my wrist to get my pulse reading. "What's your name?" "Xyana." I reply. "You're welcome to Gurreo-Valley pack, Xyana." He offers that comforting smile one can easily find amongst health workers in hospitals. "Do you recall how you got here?" He adds. Firstly, this man said that I'm at the Gurreo-Valley pack.
~Xyana~Two days later, I wake up feeling better than I did a couple of days ago. The memory of my first day here is still fresh in my mind.'Is any of this really happening or is this just the Moon goddess trying to play tricks on me?'Alpha Kedar denied me almost a week ago and now I have three men fighting over me. The only word to describe any of this is 'surreal.''You think you're special now?' Juno laughs at me, 'keep being stupid.'"Whatever did I do to you, Juno? I'm not the reason Alpha Kedar refused to acknowledge us. He just didn't want to."'He told you why.' Juno insists."He said I'm worthless, and I'm not!" I yell. "It's okay if he chooses Oksana as his real mate. But I'm not worthless, neither am I spineless."'But you're an Elephant, a Pig, fat...' "Don't say those words to me, please." I plead with my wolf. She snorts and starts sinking back inside, 'suit yourself, Pig.'I shut my eyes as the pain of her words hit me. She's waiting, watching, hoping that I'll count
~Xyana~"I can't feel my mates," I say out loud, the distress in my voice, evident as I pace the room I'm assigned to.Breakfast was hectic and I don't even blame any of my mates if they're upset. If the Moon goddess deemed it fit to give me second chance mates, that only means she understands perfectly that right now, I'm so alone with no one in the world to turn to.But I'm failing them; I'm failing my mates; I'm failing the Moon goddess, and it's all because of Juno, my wolf, who has refused to do her job."How long do you plan on shutting out our mates, Juno?" I ask her. She yawns and stretches out a bit, acting unconcerned. "Juno?"'As long as I wish.' she snaps."You're pushing them away. Their wolves are trying to connect with you and you're shutting them out."'So? What should I do with that information?.'"But you're a part of me for crying out loud. We ought to be working together, hand in hand." I try to make her see things from my own perspective.'The Moon goddess forbid
~Xyana~"You're winning," Oona says grumpily. I wasn't so eager to play chess with a pup her age, but her Nanny reassured me that Oona always plays and is good."She's good at the game," Declan says from the door. "She truly is," I reply to him. I may be winning the game, but Oona isn't making it easy for me either. He walks into Oona's game room and takes a seat, all smiles. "I've been meaning to spend quality time with you, Pretty. But the pack is preparing for the annual mating ceremony which happens yearly for us. So, we're working harder on getting more warrior recruits to toughen security." He explains."An annual mating ceremony? When will that be?""You would be surprised, because it's still a few months away. About three months and a couple of days.""And the warriors are already taking their training seriously?" I ask him."Yeah. Can't remember that stuff they say about powerful preparation." He winks at me as Oona packs up the chess board. She walks past me with the boa
~Xyana~"You have to answer me," Clifton says, climbing on the bed and pinning my arms above my head while his frame towers above me. "Your wolf called me an Abomination, didn't she?""I'm going to scream." I let out the only words that came to my mind."And you think that would stop me? Was it your wolf, Xyana?" He presses on."Gaston says to follow my cue and not to overwhelm me," I tell him instead. "It looks like your presence..." "I'm not playing this game with you." He growls, cutting me short. He lowers his body and whispers in my ear. "You are my fucking mate. I have the right to know."My heart skips a beat as I feel his breath in my ear, making me mewl softly. "And you, mine," I say, panting inaudibly."You believe so?" I nod. "So as your mate, can you listen to me by letting me go?" I try another approach. He chuckles, "nice try, Baby. In case you have no idea, it's going to take a while before my brothers finds us. So, I have all the time in the world."Alarm bells ring

~Clifton~ "Who are you?" Declan asks the man who just walked in. "Azzarus Fennom. Your late mother's only brother." He replies. Even though we are shocked to the bones because we had no idea Mama had any living family members, we can't help but agree that the man was possibly related to our late mother. He is a replica of our mother, so much so that he speaks like her even. It's like seeing our mother as a man. "What are you doing here? You never showed up for your sister. Not while she was alive, not when she died, never. So why are you here now?" I ask the man. "Clifton," Gaston calls me, but I shake my head. "He has a mouth, let him answer for himself, Alpha." "But we don't have time!" Gaston snaps. "Xyana doesn't have the time." Gaston's statement was enough to get me to finally ignore the man who calls himself my uncle. "So, what can you do, u.n.c.l.e?" Declan sneers empathetically. The man doesn't look hurt or fazed at our words. Instead, he walks straight to Xyana an
~Clifton~ "So, you're trying to tell us." I curve my index around, demonstrating my brothers and I. "You are trying to tell us that our mate got marked by a fuckin hybrid of an Alpha. Now she's going to die. And you!" I point at Gaston. "You! My brother, the man I respect and call my Alpha. You knew Zegulf Landerman marked my mate and you covered up for him? Fuckin Goddess! I've lost all the respect I have for you today, Gaston Howling!" Every single word that came out of my mouth at this point was from the depths of my soul. I'm hurting like I've never done before. I'm heartbroken. I can't believe I'm losing Xyana. Not after everything we've been through. I haven't been the best mate to her. But I love her, and she knows. I just– I was so scared that if I came too close to her, my feral wolf would hurt her. I was scared he would mark her. I was scared that I would hurt and disappoint my brothers. Also, I was scared of losing her if she found out what I had in me and decided s
~Gaston~ The tightness in my chest is unbearable. Is this how it truly feels to lose someone you love–. What? No. I don't think love is the right word. Isn't love too strong a word to use? Yet It feels like my world is crashing. I should have run to Crimson Pack and met Zegulf to have this conversation immediately after I found out. I've been on this investigation for the longest time. Speaking to a few allies and that had kept me on the phone most times. I got a vision about the prophecy of a Moon-made sometime last year and the night I saw Xyana, I knew that was my vision and the prophecy coming to pass. However, the prophecy wasn't clear, and I had very limited information on how to handle any of this. When I found out that she was mated to my brothers, I realized I needed more information than I currently have. Sadly, the information I sought didn't come as fast as I'd expected it to. "She can't die." Zegulf's shaky voice draws me out of my thoughts. "You could
~Zegulf~Gaston takes a few steps closer to me but stops halfway. "They planned to locate the two most powerful werewolf packs, eliminate their Alphas, and turn their successors against each other.""And why would they do that?""Because..." He pauses and looks around before speaking again. "I'm yet to get the full details. But I'm working on it, I promise you.""Don't promise me shit, I don't need your promises.""Zegulf-""You want me to believe that it took you several years to find this story of yours out?" I cut him short. "You are a Warlock, Howling."He feigns ignorance like he doesn't know what I'm talking about. "Oh, don't look at me like that. I know what you are, and I'm certain you know what I am. It's just disappointing that it took you years to figure something as simple as this out. Looking at it, I believe it's your area of expertise. You–"He cuts me off with an acidic smile. "Oh, forgive me that I'm not as hot-blooded as you are. Forgive me that I take my time to fi
~Zegulf~When I finally step into my Pack's waiting hall. Gaston Howling and his brother were seated, waiting for me. Once they see me approaching, Gaston flashes that notorious sneaky smile of his. "Zegulf Landerman." He calls, extending his hand for a handshake.I'll be damned if I take his hand. I ignore him and ask instead; "what brings you to my pack, Howling?"He shrugs, "you know what. But that's okay. If you don't mind, I'd like us to discuss the matter that brought me here privately."My men have circled the room and my Pack's security toughened up. If he is planning on creating a sort of distraction, in order to sneak his warriors in, it definitely won't work.I wouldn't have let him into my pack if courtesy doesn't demand it, sadly. "Follow me," I say to him, moving ahead with five of my men following us behind. If Gaston Howling wants to attack me, my men wouldn't hold a candle to him because he would easily rip them apart piece by fucki
~Gaston~Clifton will ruin everything if we don't get to him before he acts. I had Killian confirm that Clifton's Aston Martin wasn't packed in his car garage. That explains why he left with the car. And knowing Clifton well enough, his only focus would be to rescue Xyana. So he wouldn't want to mess his opportunity up.That simply means he will wait till nightfall before making a move. That gives me less than six hours to stop him from being the reason this silent war between Zegulf and me will erupt into a physically unstoppable one.Rhenat is seated from across the room with Dion and Declan standing at the entrance. They are staring at me expectantly, wanting to know what I'll do.I tip my head towards the door. "I'll leave you alone for now," I tell Rhenat. "I need to speak to my brothers and find a way to stop Clifton from ruining everything."Rhenat nods. "Yes, Alpha. I will put a call through to you when it's done.""When what is done? Can the both of you be inclusive at least
~Zegulf~The marking is complete. At least, I think it is. But it doesn't look like she's breathing well. Her breaths are coming slowly, and I'm terrified that she might be dying on me. It's not supposed to be this way. The marking between Werewolves is supposed to be a beautiful euphoric experience. But I'm not certain it would be the same with a Moon-made. I stare at the Cabal and they stare back at me, confusion on their faces. 'Yes, I'm confused as well.' I whine internally. When I spoke to Kadila earlier about marking Xyana tonight, she told me to go ahead and mark her that her presence wouldn't be needed. Now I think I need her because I'm clueless as to what to do since Xyana is barely breathing. Panic is threatening to take hold of me as I mind-link my Beta, Xavier to bring Kadila over.I can feel all the little hairs on my body stand up as if I’m inside some giant electromagnetic field. Pressing my ear to Xyana's fairly warm chest, I listen to the barely audible heartbeat
~Zegulf~I let Xyana spend the rest of her day in my room sulking. She had thought I would finally agree to let her go, but If only she knew that she was asking for the impossible. Letting her go isn't a sentence I want to be associated with. Not when the Moon Goddess gave her to me on a platter. I have a woman any Alpha would die to mark. A woman who can easily bring even the most powerful Alpha to his knees. It's sad that she has no idea who or what she is and how much power she holds.Towards the evening, the Alpha's Cabal, Roldolf, Ezra, and Thaddeus, arrived at my private chamber. I had the guards set up the room with a round table that would bring all of us together because I asked them to bring Xyana over as I wanted to introduce her to them.Xyana stops at the door, confusion shrouding her face as she stares from me to the three other men in the room."Come on in, Firefly," I call her fondly, waving at her.Slowly, she pushes her b
