Chapter 40

I was roused from sleep by the warm caress of sunlight on my skin. Squinting, I looked up to see the sun's rays streaming through the window. The space beside me felt conspicuously empty, and I realized that Lycan Steven was no longer there.

"Where has he gone?" I whispered to myself.

A knock sounded from outside the room. Instantly, I drew the blanket over my body, seeking refuge from the potential intruder.

The doorknob turned, revealing the familiar countenance of a woman.

Emily appeared taken aback upon spotting me in Steven's room, a handmaiden lingering behind her. With a swift gesture, she signaled the handmaiden to halt, leaving us in solitude.

"Where is Steven?" I inquired. Unperturbed, she paced back and forth, her attention caught by the small figurines adorning Steven's desk.

"Shouldn't you be getting dressed? Leave this room. Now," she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
